They have a very high turnover of staff. Lots of things fall under the rug. My mom was on the med program and they incorrectly dosed her, gave her wrong meds, gave her meds wrong time of day, said they'd do daily check ins and didn't but charged us for it. Part of rent is for the apartment to get cleaned once a week and my moms been there for 4 months and her room has only been cleaned 3 times and all 3 of those times we had to specifically ask multiple times for since they didn't do it on the normal cleaning day. The staff is friendly but many things that you pay a lot of money for and are promised don't actually happen and when you try to point that out and ask why things are not happening, it takes weeks to get a real answer and nothing is really done about it. The only reason she's still there is because they're one of the only places around here that offer a very low income option and it's the only places we can afford. They had the only elevator out for 2 months and residents in walkers were leaving their walkers at the top of the stairs and hobbling down 3 flights of stairs because there was supposed to be a staff member taking residents down the staff elevator but they rarely answered the phone or responded and residents were extremely unsafely trying to get themselves up and down flights of stairs and having to walk around without their walkers.

As a result of pneumonia, my mom has become bedridden and is now in hospice care, so she has graduated to the maximum tier of the care fee schedule, while she no longer participates in group activities. She is on a puree diet, which the facility has accommodated. In addition, there was a rate increase (both rent and care) this month. In addition, there has been a lot of turnover in many critical positions, including the memory care director (turned over twice since my mom moved in). They seem to be suffering from the nationwide staffing shortage, and I see new faces frequently. From my observations, the caregivers are caring and kind, but they are stretched thin, and I worry about burnout.

Response from Ivy Park at San Ramon
April 25, 2024Hi Sara, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us at Ivy Park at San Ramon. It is our pleasure to care for your mom.
I feel at home here. Things are not perfect, but the other residents are friendly and supportive. The food has improved with the new chef. There is staff turnover, but problems are being addressed with the Residents Council working with the ED. I would recommend this place to others.

Response from Ivy Park at San Ramon
May 16, 2024Hi Jenkins, thank you so much for leaving us this wonderful review! We appreciate your feedback about the food, and we will pass that message along to the team.
I had high hopes for this facility and have been sorely disappointed. It boils down to inconsistent leadership. No one seems to stay, from the Executive Director on down to caregivers. As a result, if you have a question or express a need, you get passed around and around, or worse yet, no one responds. For example, monthly bills are not itemized and it’s difficult to reach anyone to explain them. Weeks go by and in the meantime they add late charges, but no communication. From maintenance to administration to operations, there is no consistency. Moving a loved one into a care facility is difficult enough without the added burden of fighting for communication and support. We are in the process of looking for another location for our family member. At this time, I cannot recommend this facility.

I have seen positive changes in my mom since she moved to Ivy Park. She had been living alone and her dementia was declining quickly. I think that the compassion from the caregivers and the engaging activities have had a very positive impact on my mom's quality of life. She has much more energy and has more moments of clarity than she used to have.

The Memory Care wing at Ivy Park San Ramon is a new facility, and as such is experiencing some teething troubles, most notably it is understaffed. If your loved one requires a low level of care, then it may be fine, however if they require more assistance with every day life, I cannot recommend it at this time. There were a number of things that were handled so poorly that we had to move to a new facility - we stayed within the Ivy Park family, moving to [removed] whose Memory Care wing is more established and better staffed

Response from Ivy Park at San Ramon
December 29, 2023Hello, We take your concerns seriously and we appreciate having this feedback so that we can continue to make improvements to the most pressing issues. Thank you for taking the time to leave this detailed review.
We were very disappointed in Ivy Park. We moved my 97-year old mother out after only three months. The main problem was Ivy Parks caregiver to resident ratio. There simply weren't enough caregivers on staff to provide an acceptable level of care for the number of residents who needed them. My mother frequently had to wait 30-45 minutes for help with essential tasks like going to the bathroom, getting transport to/from meals and assistance in preparing for bed at night. We tried to work with management to resolve issues. They were sympathetic and responsive in our meetings but there was no follow-through. Nothing changed. In addition, administration and operations were poorly managed and confusing. Information from doctors and physical therapists wasn't shared between shifts so care was inconsistent. Monthly bills weren't itemized so it was practically impossible for us to understand increased costs and very difficult to reach anyone who could explain them. Ultimately, we decided the best thing for my mother was to move her out.

December 29, 2023Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave this detailed review. We regret that you had a disappointing experience at our community, and we appreciate learning about your experience so that we can continue working expeditiously to rectify these important issues.
The Ivy Park at San Ramon community is very clean, the staff are friendly and they serve great food. Friendly staff in the hallways And lots of residents in the grand parlor so it didn't seem lonely. They also have a nice central outdoor courtyard and the entryway is flat lots of other places are built on a hill

October 19, 2023Hello, We thank you for taking the time to leave us this feedback and are so glad to hear that you are having a positive experience at Ivy Park at San Ramon.
I would recommend it to others. It's a nice community, the building looks good and they maintain it well which creates a positive environment for the residents. It has been very positive. The staff is kind and helpful and the residents are nice. I was able to get a bigger apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. In addition it was a nice community and the staff was nice.

I'm currently a resident at Ivy Park at San Ramon. The staff is helpful and friendly. The dietary choices are limited, but options are available and can be worked out with the Chef. The quality of the food is satisfactory. The overall cleanliness of the facility and resident areas is good. Communication with the facility was troublesome initially, due to staff changes. Interactions with the staff have been positive. I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

My favorite community was a different community. Ivy Park did a better job at telling my loved one what they wanted to hear and have in a community. The person that showed us the community during the tour gave us wrong information. The community allows pets; however, the family will have to hire someone to walk the dog and this is only available during the week. My loved one finds the food boring and this might be because the food isn't being made by the family. There are no activities provided to the residents on the weekends. There is care provided all through the week. The communication from the staff is not consistent the same when speaking to different staff members. There are times that it is horrible, and most of the time it is fantastic. There has been times that medication has not been available and the staff don't communicate that with the family. The Executive Director is very good to work with and most of the staff as well.

We would recommend it definitely. It has been a very good experience for us and my Mom. Worth taking a look at. For anyone in the market, check this out. Housekeeping comes every two weeks. Laundry services are provided. They do allow pets. This location has 3 floors. If you need additional services, they can be added for a price. Transportation is provided for residents to doctors appointments as well as trips to the stores, etc. The residents are friendly. The staff are warm and welcoming. My loved one was at a different independent living place for 10 years before moving here and this place is much better than her previous place.

My mother lives here for more than 8 years. I have visited her very often and know quite well how this facility really is. The location and the size is wonderful. New management Ivy Park puts in positive effort to improve it. The care staff are compassionate and patient. It serves all 3 meals in a restaurant style. Food is healthy for seniors. Van service is convenient also. Overall it is a gem.

The management for the community has recently changed. They are currently in a transition period. They do have entertainment and activities for the residents. I would recommend to wait until the transition is over for anyone trying to currently move in. Just give them a little more time.

The food is terrible, half the time my loved one refuses it. The staff are great that the residents are interacting with regularly. The community needs some updating. I would recommend others look elsewhere for a community for their loved one. The activities could be improved. All residents have seen a down turn after the change of ownership according to residents that have been there a while.

I'm doing this review to address the one-star rating below. My in-laws are in this facility and find the staff friendly and helpful. On Meals: The dining room is for the seniors living there. However, if you want to eat in the dining room with your senior, you need to pay for the meal. They can't have any number of family come and just sit in the dining room taking up space. There are two seatings, which means every seat in the dining room is needed. It is also disruptive to the other diners to have groups of people coming in/out of the dining room. We were visiting and my in-laws weren't hungry at dinner because we had taken them out for a late lunch. We went into the dining room during their usual meal time and asked for items from the menu "to-go". No problem. The order was filled and we brought the food back into their apartment to eat later. Both my in-laws have not been sick since they have started living here. Before they had trouble remembering to eat and not wanting to bother cooking anything. Housekeeping: We've found that the facility is clean and the apartment is cleaned regularly, laundry done, beds made daily. Facility/Grounds: For the walk-able, a small Walmart/CVS are around the corner. Some rooms overlook a creek with deer and geese visible when we visited. It is located near the Iron Horse trail. There is an enclosed courtyard off the dining room for wind protected outdoor sitting. Excursions/Transportation Although my in-laws just want to sit in their apartment, there are weekly shopping and field trip option weekly. While my in-laws hate getting older and their physical limitations, they have thrived here. Cost provided $8000 month is for two persons/two bedroom/two bath apartment.
