For the high price, the experience has not met the expectation of what was promised during the tour of this facility. My mother in law has been very unhappy during her time at Monarch Southbury. There was an expectation of independence that she is not afforded as was expected as part of the independent living aspect of this environment.

1. Staff all very friendly and helpful. 2. Grounds beautiful. 3. If resident will be making own decisions and advocating for him/herself, then need to make that clear up front and keep pushing for them to respect that. It took a bit for them to get that my Aunt is making her decisions, not me. 4. If there is an issue which needs addressing, be persistent. As in all things, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. 5. Having APRN (primary care), podiatrist, dentist come right on site is a great benefit. 6. Seems to be a good mix of activities to keep people involved. 7. Planned family events are nice. 8. We had issues with the pharmacy used by Monarch getting things timely and getting 90 day supplies of meds (which saves money bc copay is same whether 1 month or 3). My aunt manages her own medication. I don't know if issue was on Monarch side, pharmacy side or both. 9. Dining hall has had issues around open vs. assigned seating as well as seating times. I think part of issue is they are back up to higher # of residents. That sad Mimi has been satisfied with the food and options and portions.
During the day you will find cleaning crew cleaning the common rooms and once a week they clean an apartment and wash and change the sheets. All of the aides and all employees say hello when you meet them walking around. Nurse available 24x7. We all have gps pendants so they can be pushed and can be found wherever you are on the grounds. Nurses will monitor and give media if needed. aides will take you down to meals or activities if needed for extra charge. 5) 5 the food is excellent with 2 specials for lunch and dinner with several daily choices each meal. Very special desserts with ice cream and pudding offered daily. Wait staff is attentive and helpful We receive an activity sheet outside our door each morning with the activities each day and a monthly sheet at the beginning of the month. The activities are varied with intellectual social, religious, games, physical. A movie every night and a gym and occasional live entertainment. The rooms are varied: studio, one bedroom, 2 bedroom.. Pretty pricey although many amenities provided.

High kudos to the staff. Very friendly and helpful. And yes I would recommend. They went through a Ex Director and chef change after about a month so there was a little bumpiness but all mostly has smoothed out. Overall all of us are happy with the choice.

It is the right place for my mom. Knowing that there are people there watching over her and she is receiving the assistance she needs is very comforting to me. I would recommend them to friends.

From our first interaction all the way through my Mother-in-law being a resident for the past two months, The staff at Motif could not have been better. They have made everything so easy and smooth that we could not be happier with the decision.

Our loved one appears to be cared for and healthy, and thinks the food is really good and the aides are nice, those are very important positive points. The communication around appointments with visiting doctors has been uneven but they have tried to improve it, so they're making an effort which is also good. The other residents are nice and seem happy. If the level of care goes up under their new, more expensive cost structure, the overall value will decrease substantially and the overall cost will be comparable to more expensive assisted living facilities in other areas like [removed].

The main reason my father decided to move to Motif Southbury over others we visited was because he thought it felt and seemed more homey and comfortable. I would recommend this facility to others.

The community has communicated very well with us and let us know about anything that has come up. It is a small community, but the staff knows our names. In recent days they have allowed us to see our loved one in the courtyard. They make you feel that you are not interrupting them at anytime. They have allowed Face Time or virtual visits to see our loved one, during the lock down.

The times I have been there, the pace is clean and the staff are friendly. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they did a good job with keeping the residents safe. Overall, they are very good with keeping our family informed of my sisters care, which was important to us. They do seem to have a lot of activities available and my sister seems to enjoy them.

I toured at The Hearth at Southbury as well as many others. I know as soon as I walked in this was the place I wanted to move to when I was ready. As soon as I ended up in rehab I called The Hearth and said "do you have a place for me" they were so helpful and now I am in my new home and I love it. Everyone is so nice and helpful. I feel so relieved -thank you.

Lovely setting with friendly staff. We were given full attention and had all of our questions answered. The interior was cheerfully decorated. We witnessed happy, social residents enjoying happy hour and dinner.

A Place for Mom has scored Monarch Southbury 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
