Our Families Experience

Overall we were pretty happy with my grandma's experience. Like all assisted living facilities they did have major staffing issues, but some of the staff was consistent and very nice. At 100 years of age my grandma did not wish to participate in any of the activities but the schedule looked reasonable and I was even able to bring my grandson there to see his great great grandma and attend Halloween trick or treating and the Easter egg hunt which he enjoyed. There were some issues, like dealing with the laundry (things missing) and sometimes it was hard to find a staff member when needed (staffing issues!) but it really was reasonably priced compared to other places we looked at. While it wasn't as fancy as Vista Springs Riverside Gardens where my dad had been, it was less than half the price. The fact that they had different levels of care (thankfully she was assigned level 1 the least support and least expensive, as she was surprisingly independent), a memory care unit (which, thankfully she did not need), a skilled nursing care unit (very expensive but if she had needed it, nice that it was inhouse), and medical staff on site (which she did use, switching from her primary care to their service so she would not have to be taken to appointments) including dental, and eye care. These were huge pluses, especially for my grandma as she did not really want to go anywhere at her age (100!). My grandma moved in June. By the time she celebrated her 101st birthday her memory was slipping and she was getting frailer so we looked into hospice care for her. She qualified and benefitted from the extra car they could provide (weekly aid visit, in addition to the aids at Medilodge; weekly nurse visit, and biweekly social work and chaplain). She did well right up until the last two days when she was kept comfortable and passed peacefully in April. So, while far from perfect my sister and I feel it was the best option for her and do not regret our choice. I think with Medilodge (as well as pretty much any other facility) family members do need to visit regularly and advocate for their loved ones to make sure things do fall through the cracks.... Very Disgusted!!

My father was unlucky enough to go there twice for a couple weeks at a time! He needed PT and OT during his stay! The Floor Staff Was really Nice, Except they are Highly Understaffed! They Don't have time to take Care of the Patients as Needed! My dad left with a Huge, Very Sore Pressure Point wound that was Never taken care of Properly!! His first roommate Coughed all night! Second room mate sat around in a hospital gown with no underwear, Very Disrespectful to my Mother!! Whom was there everyday to Visit my dad!! His room was Never cleaned, just swept. Never disinfected when room mate left!! Wound Nurse was Very Unfriendly! Windows you can't even see out of. Rooms are Small! Some People are in the Same clothes all week! Music should be playing thru a speaker system for the guests. They have a nice little are where people could go outside and never be able to leave the facility, but they are Not allowed!! I Literally Was Shocked when I went there! Stay Away!

Disappointed

Sadly I do not recommend this place any longer. Staffing is a huge turnover, I feel they hire anybody to have a body, they are not trained or just don't care. Rates increase but things are taken away or not provided anymore. Housekeeping is not good, we had to continually seek staff out and request the room be cleaned after weeks, and this was a daily occurrence. There is no communication, you are told no honest answers only given excuses or told something they think you want to hear so that you maybe let it go, but nothing is addressed, fixed, listened to or even acknowledged when you want to file a complaint or concern, many didappointing changes and not for the best! We feel the residents and their voices do not matter at all anymore and found new placement.

Disappointing

Very disappointed in all the changes in the past year which is a reason reason Medilodge is a community that we no longer recommend to anyone. There is no communication or accountability and your voice or concerns are not heard and noone seems to care. This place only cares about how they can make a buck. The best staff who was dedicated and caring and had years of longevity are sadly all gone because of this poor corporation. Please research hard before considering this community!

Nice reasonably priced facility with some staffing issues but would still recommend

When it comes to the activities she is 100 and not interested in them so we cannot rate. It is reasonably priced but currently very short staffed. Coffee machine broke and been short on toilet paper and cream at times. Still thankful for a reasonably priced place that provides her with the care she needs

Overall a Good Place to Be

The staff is very friendly. Special dietary needs have been difficult for them to meet and accommodate. I also wish they would engage her and encourage her a little bit more to participate in activities. But overall, as far as the people, I really like them. They're great!

Friendly Community

Mom is having some issues with meals, but I know Pilgrim Manor lost their chef just before she moved in. Another issue I had myself is difficulty getting questions answered. But overall Mom is quite happy with her experience. Mom has found both the staff and other residents to be very helpful and friendly. She had several other residents who greeted her on the first day and took her under their wing.

Pilgrim Manor has mastered the essence of an outdoor community indoors with wide light halls, huge windows, ground floor units and a sprawled floor plan. It provides privacy while offering numerous attractive areas for socializing. Food and care are top notch. It's convenient location makes it easy for family and friends.

Wondering loving atmosphere. Staff and workers go the extra mile. Housekeeping is not up to pat. Go so fast and lots to do ourselves. (maybe need more helpers?) Food- usually cooked ok, but also many meals are cooked too long and water logged. A lot of turnover of staff? Maybe even better after covid? They took very good care of me.

don't put your mom there

My mom died b/c a resident w/ dementia yanked out my mom's walker from under her causing her to fall & have a stroke. In the hospital, she had 1 broken arm from a previous fall, her other arm bruised & purple, her shoulder bruised. She could not function properly after the stroke, but could respond, and talk like in a 'different language'. Then they placed her in "HOSPICE" at Pilgrim Manor. NO VISITS WERE ALLOWED FOR 1 WEEK!!! Calls made by family members in attempt to see my mom before she died, but no one was allowed, until after 7 days! Hospice was supposed to allow visits according to safety guidelines for people who are dying! BY THE TIME THEY ALLOWED THE 1st VISIT 1 WEEK LATER SHE WAS COMATOSE. When she was at the hospital, she was able to respond, could recognize and talk with you. After being in "Hospice" 1 week, she had a new wound caked w/ dried blood on the side of her head, and newly bruised & purple hand, as if someone had grabbed her hand and hit her on the head!
