Highly recommend

We toured this facility during the height of covid and they were very flexible and let us come look at the apartment my mother would move to before we made a decision. their marketing coordinator was wonderful. We chose Lorien Taneytown because it is the closest facility to us and it is in a very small town with a country community so it is a more intimate experience. It seems like there is a higher staff to resident ratio as well. The staff were excellent at helping my mom work through some issues she had from her previous facility and she is doing great now. The value does seem to be more reasonable. The décor is beautiful and updated and it smells great as well. They have a nursing home attached so you can Segway into nursing care from assisted living if needed. I would highly recommend them to others looking.... Read more

Relief to Find

My mom really likes the activities. Lorien is a very lively place with a lot going on. Very active community. My mom loves the food. They have a lovely outdoor patio that they can use in nice weather. My mom has a beautiful one bedroom unit with lots of space.

Would not recommend

We chose this assisted living for the beautiful location, and cleanliness of the facility. All went well for a few weeks then an obvious decline in my father was apparent. The staff seemed indifferent and uncaring. Unhappy with the care we took my father home with home care. Messages with supervisors were left unanswered, but the billing office made sure they called. Would not recommend this facility.

Recommend Highly, great care

My Mother originally stayed in Lorien's Assisted Living Section three times (for respite), while I was away on vacation. She enjoyed the experience so much, and was treated so well, that she asked if she could stay a few extra weeks. The meals were delicious, the activities are varied and enjoyable, the staff are responsive and very kind, and focused on patient safety. The administrative staff, especially Stacy, has been very helpful in addressing any questions or issues that come up. Can't say enough about this aspect of Lorien. The facility is always very clean, and there are so many little things about it that add up to a very good experience for my mother. Last year Mom became very ill and was sent from the hospital directly Lorien's Rehab section. Again, she was looked after very well by the nurses, the doctor and aides. She gained her health back and was able to progress from wheelchair to walker. Every three months a meeting is scheduled with 'the team', (social worker, nurse, activities person etc) and we talk about Mom. They share info on her diet, any health issues, and ask if the family has any concerns or questions. (I refer to this the PTA meeting). Mom always tells me "I can feel the love here, I can't find fault at all with this place". One night I was visiting Mom, close to bedtime. I heard aides working their way down the hall, getting the residents ready for bed. Before leaving each room I heard an aide say to the resident "good night! I love you!". We highly recommend Lorien.

Sub par Care at best

My mom lived at Lorien Assisted Living for two years. The facility is nice, but the staff is overworked. Some are very caring, but many see it just as a job. My Mom usually has to wait 15 - 20 minutes for an aide after she rings. If she rings again, they complain that she rings too much. There have been times my mom missed meals because no one came to get her. Additionally, the highest level of care is no different than the lowest level, but costs 3 times as much. The administration is terrible and will charge you extra every chance they get. If a new medication is prescribed, sometimes it takes up to 3 days to get it. The food started out as decent but the quality and taste has declined. The activities are few and uninteresting. I would not recommend this facility if your parent needs any kind of additional attention or help.
