The Executive Director at Legacy Village was very accessible in glass office with the door open, and offering to meet with me, in fact - bringing up the idea of a meeting to me, to discuss questions Mom and I had in order to assimilate. I believe the total living experience of an Assisted Living place starts from top management and flows down the chain of command. The Executive Director/Manager/Chief Nurse are one person. Her philosophy is a delightful open glass door policy. She is energetic and can be seen helping out - ie: giving an extra hand in the kitchen, to the nursing staff, and to the med tech staff. When I had a question/concern she - the manager - suggested a meeting with herself, Mom, myself, and the Med Tech Manager. We met and the meeting went wonderfully because her attitude is one of making absolutely sure that her residents are cared for exactly as they need be. The Nursing and Prescription Management have been expert and no 'fumble' has occurred. The Med Techs (those who are most hands-on with the residents) are kind, concerned, and helpful to the residents. I visit my Mom every other day. The caregivers at Legacy will tell me how Mom is doing today, on my way in. When Mom went to the hospital, and I stopped by Legacy to pick up a few things for Mom, they asked about Mom and how she was doing. The physical facility is clean and also very attractive and updated. Christmas is an extra delightful time to be at Legacy Village. The decorations are beautiful. Finally, the food is tasteful and nutritious. Mealtime is especially important to the residents as it is a time to socialize as well as a time to enjoy well prepared food. The Thanksgiving Celebration meal was especially great and the Executive Director, whom I have mentioned previously, even made the Dressing herself. It was sooo good! I look forward to their Christmas meal. I would encourage anyone who is questioning where they have placed their loved one, to not wait any longer, but to look into other options, and make a move for the better! I have found that Mom still has so much to give, and at Legacy Village, she is LIVING, instead of declining.

It has been a good experience at St. Gabriel Athens. My room is spacious and has extra storage built in. They repainted it a lovely color for me. I just really like it. The only problem has been the food. Sometimes the food that's supposed to be hot is not hot when you get it. And sometimes it's just not tasty. But they have a monthly meeting where the residents can go in and talk about any problems, and they do listen to us and try to work on things. So I'm hopeful the food will improve.

Our aunt really enjoys that St. Gabriel's promotes a sense of community which is something we appreciate. We have not had first hand experience with the meals but speaking with our loved one she seems to really enjoy them. She also enjoys all of the activities that are offer. they have a very busy and full activities calendar. They have different games, movie nights, social events, weight lifting classes, bible studies and they go out to local restaurants. We have recommended this community to other families and we will continue to do so.

I really like them. It's a very good place. For the food, you can order a la carte, and it's good clean food (not processed). For example, you can order a nice piece of salmon, potatoes, veggies. Most of the staff is excellent. The one negative is they don't communicate well between their internal groups, and you just don't know who you need to talk to when you have an issue. I would love to see them put together a roadmap so you can see how everything works. But it's a nice place overall.

It was exactly what we needed. My mom had shoulder surgery and needed to be someplace where she could be monitored and fed and have help if she needed it for a two-week period. They were the only place nearby that offered respite care for a logical amount. I thought it was a great value, and the cheapest we found.

We looked at 4 facilities and we chose St. Gabriel because it is really close to my home so I can get here quickly and I met with the director and I really liked him and how he interacted with the residents. My mother moved in right after covid was kind of ending, so they were still trying to get staff back up. I am very pleased with the level of care that she is receiving. The food is very good, I was able to eat quite a few meals with her, they are chef prepared. I have recommended them to several folks. I really like how things are done here and the informality of it.

This is really just assisted living with a locked door in the memory care unit. The layout is not conducive to easy navigation for your memory impaired loved one. The staff is ill trained in memory care and some were so uncaring, made my dad cry a lot. If I hadn't bathed my dad, he would have smelled bad all the time. They would put clean clothes on him over soiled skin and never brushed his teeth. Lack of supervision at night is appalling. I stayed over night several times before we moved dad.

The staff as a whole is wonderful. My most experience is with the weekend staff, [removed names]. They're a great team. Very helpful, alert and patient with residents. They multi-task, despite their job title. Residents feel their love and concerns for them. It's seen on the residents face, they feel protected and loved. Thank You!!

The quality of care that my 90-something mother received at Thrive during the 6 months that she lived in the Memory Care wing there was, frankly, a little shocking to me. The staff seemed mostly young, mostly not very experienced, but okay for the most part (professional though not particularly compassionate); they tried to do their jobs, but there never seemed to be enough of them on the floor at any given time, so they always seemed rushed and too often seemed annoyed that they had to deal with frail elderly people. The administrators were hands-off, unresponsive, and bizarrely out to lunch -- *hugely* different than the admin I encountered at both the assisted care community where my mother lived before coming to Thrive and the memory care community where she went after Thrive (both of which, luckily, were lovely, extremely professional, and very easy to work with). Honestly I've never seen anything quite like it. After 6 months of watching my mom's health and peace of mind deteriorate, my husband and I moved her to another (really wonderful) memory facility in Jefferson where -- thank goodness! -- both staff and administration were superb, and (not surprisingly) my mother did much better. I just wish she hadn't had to spend half a year in a place where a whole lot of thought and attention (and money) seemed to have been spent on a pretty, new building and so very, very little seemed to have been spent on enhancing the quality of the lives of the elderly people who lived in it.

Our experience has been just great. Everything the community does is terrific. The community is new, fresh, and clean. Everyone is real considerate, the staff take pride to their job and I see them being courteous and attentive with the residents. Once they offered to make coffee and they always go out of the way to make them feel cared. My mom is thriving and looking much better.

Overall, I have been very pleased with Thrive. It is active, friendly, clean, and organized. It is such a relief to know that my family is safe and we'll attended. It is different from other facilities that I have known and visited; and that is all the difference in his life.

My mother-in-law moved here recently and things are going well. She's participating in many of the activities that the community offers and is adjusting well. She thinks the food is good but I have not tried it. We chose this community because it was a good price for what they offer. It's close to loved one's and where she lived as well.

My mother is starting to adjust to this community. She is mingling with the other residents, and starting to get all settled into the community. This is a nice community, I know she is being cared for very well here. The staff is great. There are activities offered for the residents. They do serve well balanced meals. This is a community I would highly recommend, it has worked out very well for us.

My husband is doing great here. They have RNs that are amazing and they are always there even through the night. They are able to provide the care he needs. Everybody from the activities director to staff to the residents and their families are great. The meals are a 5 star dining experience. They serve a full 3 course meal or a la carte menu items. The chef is top notch. They have something literally every hour like devotional, care service, outings, and happy hour on Fridays. They are worth seeing.

A Place for Mom has scored Legacy Village of Athens 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
