Independence Hill Assisted Living seems very nice. The staff in the dining room seems to know all of the residents by name and are very sweet and patient. The overall cleanliness of the facility seems very good and they steam clean the hallway carpets regularly. The front desk staff are very nice and accommodating. They often have entertainment on Sunday afternoons, such as singers who come in and all of the residents seem to enjoy that quite a bit. I looked at a bunch of facilities and this one seemed a great value for the price and felt right. The move in process was very smooth and when we realized that the renovated bathroom did not have grab bars, they tended to that the same day. The meals are pretty good. They have everyday offerings such as grilled cheese, chicken salad sandwiches, and hamburgers. Then 3 specials that change each night, such as beef stroganoff, ham, macaroni and cheese, asparagus and things like that. Residents can get a cup of soup, salad, and dessert with each meal if they would like. They can also take the food to go and that is really convenient. I would recommend Independence Hill and I really like that the Assisted Living side is a beautiful space and a pre-planned next step for my mom.... Read more

Do not feel it's high enough level of care or licensure to age in place long term. Carpet looks worn and dirty especially in high traffic areas, older building so some areas just don't appear clean. Quite a few amazing and kind people work there. My family member is still fairly independent. I do not feel this is a place they can age in place long-term with a high-level of care. We are not receiving some of the services we were told we would be, and some services are difficult to pin down when they are available and how to obtain them. It took over a week to get the batteries replaced in a fall pendant, and they have been without a nurse on site for several weeks. The food was amazing when we toured and first moved in, but has taken a significant decline since then. Meat is tough, vegetables are overcooked and slimy and not appealing. Chef is very friendly as are several of the waitstaff who are doing their best. This seems to be an across-the-board concern by many of the residents. Would love to see it rectified. [name removed] does a wonderful job with decor and activities, although it is difficult for many of the residents to interact on a similar level because of the extreme difference in abilities. Yes, kind and friendly staff with engaging activities and beautiful decor. Great for the right family member who is independent or needs entry level assistance.

This facility, 5 years ago, was the best in town, then they got new ownership and everything started going down hill fast. The personal care and help with the little things around the apartment gradually stopped, to the point of discust. After pointing out the problems, we were ready to move Mom out, but she likes living there. The staff turnover has been almost 100% since she moved in, and there doesn't seem to be anyone who knows the residents well enough to carry on a conversation with them. When the staff is telling the family of the residents how bad management is, you know something is wrong. Then things slowly started to get better, and I will say, it all seemed to be related to the attidude of management. once they changed the manager, things started to improve. We do like the location and the atmosphere, and are hoping that things continue to improve. We did have a few issues with med techs, not giving medications as perscribed, but that seems to have been corrected.

Independence Village looks like it used to be nice. It really needs some updating. I was specifically looking for a community that had independent living, assisted living, and memory care all on the same property.
New med techs almost always get meds wrong, be careful management isn’t always telling the truth and have someone with you to witness the lies that are told. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case before the summer. Sadly, some people shouldn’t be in care of the elderly.

This is not the place it once was. Many employees have left an I have been here two yrs plus with bone on bone issues needing help showering. There has been no problems ?I have always had female assistants helping me. All were very professional. This last week I had a new person, who rushed, did not follow directions. and as a result I almost fell. I reported the incident and said that I did not her to assist anymore. I was told ok. The next shower time I was told that it would be a male or her. I declined and requested a shower the next day. Ok I was told then the next day but it happened again. I refused again and rescheduled for Tomorrow I was told ok! Ditto for 5 days, several times each day, I am told ok and then same. thing over and over day and night. My daughter called and was told that I would be showered but each time the same thing occurred. The activities director here is very good, encourages the residents, always has a positive attitude.

Our family had an in person tour and this was actually the first community out of many we tour. It was a great experience, super nice. We had a family members previously live there so we already knew what to expect, however on the tour it just did not feel as nice as it seemed when our loved one lived there in previous years.
I think the staff are pretty attentive. I think the value for the services that our get for your money is really good. The food is good and and they offer a pretty good variety. We chose this community for its proximity to my house, the cost, and the apartment is close to the dining room and on the first floor and easy to access to everything. I think they do a pretty good job and would definitely recommend this community.

Over three years ago my 91 year old Mother needed assisted living. I looked at several places near my home and carefully evaluated them all. I chose Independence Hill which was also highly recommended by friends of mine who had been through the experience or knew someone else who had done the same. It has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in a while. I visit my Mother frequently and I know, from first-hand experience, it is a great place. My Mother is doing very well there and likes it very much. The facility is quite nice; very clean, well maintained and pleasing to the eye. The staff is very knowledgeable caring, and the caregivers are outstanding. They have many really great activities for the residents and they serve excellent meals. I strongly recommend Independence Hill to anyone looking for assisted living for a relative.

At 95 years old, the time was here. . .should my mother continue to live alone or move to an assisted living? A year earlier my daughter and I toured Independence Hill Assisted Living with Sherrill Perez. I just wasn't ready with that very difficult decision yet! As my mother's safety became an issue, we decided the time was finally right. . .an apartment was available and she had a new home! After 9 months I asked my mother what did her favorites include about living at her assisted living and she was quick to mention: "homey" atmosphere, sittercize, lovely walking path, dining room & food trips to HEB, musicals & outings, interacting with other residents & staff AND knowing they truly care about helping elderly people! She loves living at Independence Hill and calls it "home!"

"Praise the Lord for the staff at Independence Hill Assisted Living!" The fabulous thing is, I don't have to name names! Truly, every staff member has become our extended family. We have comfortable confidence in the care and friendship our 84 years young Dad experiences when we are not there.

There are not enough words to describe the peace of mind IHAL provides to families. From our personal experience, the care Dad has received has been outstanding. 24/7 the staff is ready to assist at whatever level is required. Every need is met, and most "wants" as well. The menu is outstanding, tastes great, and is most of all healthy; his Type II Diabetes has all but disappeared since eating better and more regularly. His apartment, too, is well maintained, cleaned, and things freshened up on a weekly basis. I don't know what we would have done had we not taken that first step and contacted IHAL.

The decision to move my mother to assisted living was a difficult challenge for our family but can tell you I wish we would have made the decision a year earlier. My mother has thrived at Independence Hill Assisted Living. She regularly participates in crafts and activities that are cleverly designed for the residents! She also frequently attends resident excursions several times a month. However, the biggest compliment I can list for Independence Hill Assisted Living is that ALL the staff work to help my mother daily from the administration, to the dining room, to the care givers. I would rate them 5 stars in every category as I could not find a more caring and sincere staff.

Excellent facility with great food, a wonderful caring staff who provide care above and beyond. I have a relative who has lived in the independent living facility and now the assisted living facility for a total of 14 years. In all that time we have never has a complaint or problem that was not handled immediately and with c are and concern.Wonder place to live out one's later years.

The staff is really friendly. They have been really responsive. I can't put into words the value we have gotten, even just from being able to sleep at night without a phone call at 2 am. It's clean, and nice. There are no complaints about food or entertainment. The staff and especially the administrators have been just outstanding, answering every question. They have just been great.

I toured this facility when touring the Independence Hill Independent Living apartments. I wanted to get an idea of what the assisted living facility was like if my Grandparents needed it someday. I was expecting just an average okay facility and not expecting to be blown away. This place is so relaxing and a friendly, homey and loving environment. There is an indoor living plant atrium with tropical birds to interact with. Upstairs there is the most gorgeous view from the balconies and from inside on top of the hill overlooking the city. They include 3 meals a day plus a community kitchen with snacks so no need to worry about food. The people all were smiling and happy. The added touch was all the pictures on the wall of the residents when they were younger or kids, so sweet. My family also fell in love with this place.
