Although it is a 50 and above community, there are mostly 70 and up residents. That worked out well for my dad- to have similar age people there mostly. One complaint I have is the food service -or lack of- on Sunday. That one makes things hard. And the 1 meal they do serve is often part time staff help and food is cold or not too good. Regular food staff are off on Sunday, just fyi. Overall, it's a great place and I wish my dad would take advantage of the activities -he does not. But I see all of the others doing things all of the time!... Read more

What has made Independence Hill such a great experience so far for our family is the staff. They are very friendly, the community is affordable and the meals they serve to the residents are good. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would absolutely recommend them to other families.

We love the cottage apartment we have because we have a separate entrance. The staff is very friendly, but the other residents have not been so friendly.

We didn't think we could find a really nice place for my dad to live with his limited budget, but then we found Independence Hill at Stoneoak. The facilities are really nice and they feel like a resort. The food is fabulous and we are very lucky that my dad has such a nice place to live now. A+

Our family had an in person tour with Independence Hill community and we thought it was an excellent tour experience and really considered it for our loved one. However the location was just to far away and the size and layout we think would have been a little overwhelming for our loved one
The staff at Independence Hill are friendly. They are not as responsive to certain requests, but seem to be good about any maintenance requests made. The food served is average. They were supposed to have assistance services and therapy and they don't have either one
I moved my loved one in, and for the first 4 days, she had no air conditioning. Maintenance was kind enough to put a window unit in her bedroom, which is the only thing that saved me from having to take her to a hotel. You would have thought that AC would have been checked before she moved in. Because she was a new resident, they put a new refrigerator in her apartment. But the icemaker didn't work. (You think they might have checked that too). The person repairing the refrigerator tore the vinyl kitchen floor. Parts were ordered but they were the wrong parts and were ordered a second time. With our supply chain problems this took 3 months, and the floor remains torn. At the time this was all going on, she was highly stressed as she transitioned from her move. She was physically exhausted and had to go to a neighbor's to get ice for cold water. She seemed very confused, despondent and angry. Lately she's been more of her old self. Happy, making friends, and laughing a lot. I think we've rounded the corner of transition. My story is that families should probably be well informed that the transition is not easy and life is different when you're not living in a home where people know you well and come to help when you refrigerator breaks. Corporate living is different than living at home. There are processes for getting things done that your loved one has to adjust to, corporate folks tending to you that aren't personally attached to you. This understanding is vitally important to resident success. In the end, I like that my loved one likes it there, and that is all I need.

Not the place I first came to two yrs ago. Very, very short staffed now!!! Several nights there was no one at the desk. Anybody could have walked in. A relative of mine walked in , waited for someone to come to the desk, eventually decided to come on to my room which was fine but a stranger could easily had walked into the building and caused trouble of some sort. One of the management tends to talk down to those with a concern, then calls other facilities for info, Very, very unprofessional !! Payment process has recently changed! Now bank accounts need to be accessible to the company or else pay a fine if one wants to pay by check. Nothing noted in original agreements that this could happen. Many employees have left and I don’t blame them but they are dearly missed because they really cared for the residents and occasionally send greetings. It is truly a sad state of fails. Hopefully the main office will investigate and listen!

The staff cares about the residents, and the there are frequent and varied activities daily. The community is going through a management transition, which is proving to be a challenge, but hopefully it is only a temporary situation. Overall we are happy to have selected this community.

We chose Independence Hill because we had heard excellent reviews about the facility for years and plus I live nearby so I am able to visit often. The apartment sizes are pretty good, her apartment is a little larger than others and fits her needs well. The staff are excellent and always very friendly and helpful. I would recommend to others looking.

We chose Independence Hill because they had a good deal going on at the time and it was a great incentive to move in. He has the smallest apartment available and it is still room. The units do have their own washer and dryer as well. I would recommend to others looking.

A Place for Mom has scored Independence Hill 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
