On [date removed] I signed papers to rent an apartment for my mother at Washington Commons with the move in date to be [date removed]. On [date removed] I found my mother on the floor of her house where she had fallen and hit her head on the corner of her dresser. I called 911 and she was taken to University Hospital. She stayed at the hospital 5 days and on [date removed] was transferred to Walton Rehab. At this time I was still planning to move my mother to Washington Commons. I got the keys and moved a bed frame with rails into the unit. The doctors at Walton Rehab say my mothers condition is serious. My mother needs 24 hour care. Washington Commons was no longer an acceptable place for her to go. On [date removed] the case manager at Walton Rehab called Washington Commons and explained the situation--stating she would send whatever paperwork was needed to break the lease especially since my mother never moved in. Washington Commons stated there was nothing they could do and to make sure I paid the other two months rent that is due. No associate at Washington Commons has ever met my mother--she was not issued an emergency call pendant, the toilet bowl tank lid was never repaired, no meals ever eaten, and the move in checklist not completed. This company does not even want to work with you after they get your money. They say good friends make good neighbors, I say where are the good friends?? because Washington Commons is not one of them.

I just moved my father into Washington Commons this weekend and it has been a very good experience so far minus the stress of moving in. The facility is very nice and appears very well maintained. My father's one room apartment looks new to me. The common areas are also very nice and welcoming with a very nice dining room and activity areas on the first, second, and third floor. The facility could use a second elevator as opposed to the one single elevator that is often tied up and full during meal times. Additionally, more signage pointing to the alternate routes and areas would be VERY helpful. I only realized after the second day that there were stairs beside my father's room that led to the outside and interior corridors. I am still unsure where some of the rooms are that are listed on the activity calendar. There is cable provided as part of the rent but it is via a basic cable box/outlet affixed to the wall and a coax cable. I spent 2 hours setting up 2 televisions as there were no instructions other than how to set up the universal remote. I asked for assistance but was told that the cable company would have to be contacted the next day. That would have been pure misery for my television addicted father so I sat down and figured it out myself. Basically, you have hook up the TV via the coax cable, set the TV to channel 3, do a channel search and then point the remote at the box on the WALL as opposed to the TV. The following day, a maintenance worker very kindly helped me to pair the remotes to the TVs so that is no longer necessary. There is no wifi in the apartments unless the resident is directly over the office where the office router is kept. I asked about it and was told that we would have to purchase wifi separately via an Xfinity router and service agreement. That is disappointing when all they need to do is install a few wifi boosters around the building. Meal time is great and the food is relatively good in my opinion. They have 2-3 choices of entrees every meal and although not fancy, the food is good. The beverage choices are limited to water, coffee, tea (unsweet), and lemonade. The servers are amazing, very patient, and extremely helpful. If there is a rude one on staff, we have not encountered her/him. My understanding from my Father is that they also have snack foods in between meals in the common rooms but I have not witnessed that myself yet. He likes it and goes there for coffee in the morning. Moving in was stressful as moving always is but this move could have went easier if I had known there were carts and hand trucks kept in the back to help with moving etc. We found them midway through moving when I asked if they had any wagons or carts that we could use. Additionally, there is no back door so you are forced to lug everything large through the lobby and to the elevator if it will fit into the passenger elevator. If not, you have to lug it up 3 flights of stairs. That could use a lot of improvement but I'm not sure what could be done other than an additional elevator and perhaps hiring professional movers. The staff at Washington Commons are all very nice and very willing to help. I have not encountered a single one that was not pleasant and helpful when help was sought. They all seem to get along well with the residents even when the residents are complaining about something (empty soap dispenser). [Removed] in particular is great and is the primary reason that we chose Washington Commons. He gave us the first of multiple tours that I took with my daughter and then my father. I'm not sure that we would have chosen Washington Commons if not for the first tour that we took with [Removed] in November. My father was supposed to be paired with another resident to orient him to the facility but that has not happened to my knowledge. Because my father has memory problems, I hired 'Right at Home' to provide well care visits at mealtime and activity time. This serves to remind him to go to meals and to participate in the activities. I think that he will adjust to the routine at WC in a week or two and won't need the aides for very long but it a great service to have available.

Washington Commons is a beautiful clean community. The staff is very encouraging. They are so generous in their health care and friendliness. It is very clean and well kept, better than anything we can ever hope for in cleanliness. The director was so understanding in her compassion with how my Dad can act. My Mother-in-law is going to move into a memory care community now that Dad finally admits he cannot take care of her along with his own health issues. Dad is going to move from a one bedroom into a suite, it is just beautiful. Dad really enjoys the meals provided. The community has a Right at Home service, we are going to set it up for my Dad to help out my mother-in-law until she moves into memory care. We really love that this is the right fit for my Dad.

I have no complaints of how things are going for my loved one since she made the move into this community. She is doing a lot better than I expected and I am very pleased to see her improvement. The staff are wonderful people, they are not only kind to her but to all of the family as well. My mother has had no problems with the meals and enjoys the activities from time to time with the other residents.

My parent has lived at Washington Commons for almost a year and one of the reasons we chose this facility was the management - [Removed] in particular. Since they left, we have seen the staff change multiple times, the food is less than desirable and the morale of the residents has declined tremendously. The activities are not exactly as described, even non-existent, and they don't really seem to care about what the residents have to say. We are now looking at a different facility and apparently so are lots more - I hear there are over 20 empty apartments. The only good things I have seen, and I'm there often, are the wonderful ladies who serve meals and clean the apartments for these deserving older residents. You definitely don't get what you pay for here. Do not recommend unless changes are made.

I have no complaints about the care that my grandmother has been receiving. All of the staff have been great and accommodated her needs as best as they could. We as a family are very pleased and would defiantly recommend this place to anyone.

I had a pretty good tour of this community. Everyone was very kind, and friendly to my family and myself. It was a good experience. The community looked nice, and well-kept. The staff was kind, and courteous. My aunt wanted a community with more space, but our tour went well of this community.

Me and my loved one took a tour of this community and I really loved it. The residents were telling me all about what goes on here and that says a lot about the community. I also love that they have a track for the residents to be able to walk around. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable as well.

Kim was very compassionate and understanding. We are have not decided what to do yet, but when we do, Kim will be the first to know. The ambassador explained things to us in such a way that we felt every comfortable. This is on our list of considerations.

I am in the process of moving into this facility. However, I find that the management is very poor. At present, the two sets of managers do not communicate with each other nor do they communicate with residents very well. Listening to other residents it seems like it is hard to get things done, especially minor repairs to the apartments. I have witnessed this first hand. Complaints tend to be ignored or brushed aside for a later date. Promises are not generally very well kept. Everyone, both staff and residents are very friendly here and tend to get along real well. The buildings and grounds are very well kept. There are a lot of activities here. They really keep you busy. The bus always seem to be taking residents to one place or another. You don't need a vehicle here. I find the food and dining facility very good. This could be a really great place but at the present time some improvements are needed.

The only thing that I saw that I did not like was the mold that was on the outside of the building as you go inside. I was afraid of it for myself and for my loved one and the other residents, because it can be very dangerous. I brought it to their attention though, so hopefully they have it cleaned up.

The food is not real great at Washington Commons. Mom doesn't eat pork and shellfish and that seems to be all they serve. Mom has been real sick since moving in so she really hasn't been able to get out and about. The staff are friendly but don't get things done. She has had a door broken and they haven't fixed it yet. Overall things are going okay but definitely some things need improving.

October 16, 2015Hi, this is Katie, I work at Holiday Retirement Home Office. I want to check in and make sure your mom's door has been fixed. If it hasn't, can you please call us here at Home Office? We've been working hard to speed up our maintenance work order process and want to make sure your mom's issue has been resolved. Our Resident Relations number is [removed]. Thanks, Katie
My husband and I have really enjoyed our experience here at the Washington Commons. The resident managers are very nice and very helpful. We are moving out though because we got a two-bedroom apartment.

My interactions with them have been very positive. They have been very friendly, and easy to work with. They have been very up front and very above board, they treat the people there very well, they know everyone there by name and where they live. They are very personable. They were more affordable, and mom really loved the atmosphere here, liked a lot of the ladies. They had nice grounds, and they treat the whole place like a huge family. I will say that there was a mix up when it came to negotiating the contract, there was a special deal but we didn't realize until it was too late that it disqualifies you from the price lock, so I would double check those details when you are negotiating.

People that worked there and the management was nice. Place is definitely not worth the money in my opinion. No security deposit didn't like that there wasn't a security deposit and that they got to keep the money. Would not recommend this nor will I recommend this facility to my patients. Customer service was quite rude on my experience and did not know where the facility even was. Dad complained about the food, stated his eggs were commonly cold. The facility itself was nice though and the backyard is well maintained.

We toured here as we were looking for options. We really liked it. The staff was really, very friendly. They seemed to have a lot for activities going on as well. I can't really rate the care services, since I only toured the community.

My mother has been a resident at this facility for a couple of months. The facility is well kept but my experience with the staff is less than adequate. Complaints are brushed off. The food is subpar at best. The wife and I randomly ask residents what they think of the food and we get a large majority saying that it is aweful. We were working with the assistant managers before they left in trying to resolve some of the issues with bad food, lack of choice and the lack of care about it. But they left and any complaints now are shrugged off by the current management. And don't try and talk to the regional manager, he is not trustworthy in my opinion. My mother was treated rudely by the regional food manager and was called a liar. The activities are good and my mother enjoys them. Overall this facility is poorly run compared to other holiday facilities we have been associated with. I would figure in some additional food in your budget if you decide on this facility.

The community is kept clean. They are extremely friendly. She gets very frustrated with the food though, the menu is extremely confusing, you can't order what you want, it can only be ordered a certain way. You have to order from one side or the other and what ever you order that is all you get. It would be nice if they had a little more flexibility with the menu. We chose it based on price, and location. The price is supposed to be inclusive of everything, and they sit you down and show you everything that it includes, and food is at the top of that list, maybe it shouldn't be at the top.

Point blank it's the staff. Staff attitude!!!!! What a great attitude from Qwanda and her husband. These two made the the difference and sold me on Washington Commons. Everything else is what i expect from an Assisted Living. The living quarters, common areas, and activities are all of high standard which I expect. Once again, the exceptional thing is staff attitude and main two people Qwanda and her husband.
