An appreciation of Hillcrest

I simply cannot understand some of the other reviewers. The admissions person at Hillcrest was wonderful, and helped us when no one else could (we needed to be close to oxygen therapy). The nurse [name removed] was very competent, and the social workers were very very nice. They even had a flutist who came in weekly to entertain the residents - that was a pleasant treat. The grounds were very beautiful: Often times we'd see geese cruising in to the nearby pond. It was a lovely sight for my Mom, and there was a nature path to take her wheelchair on. Yeah, a few trees outside might need a trim, but on the whole the environment was one to be cherished. To those who took care of [name removed], I thank you. [name removed]... Read more

Lack of care

Mom was patient for 5 days between procedures, and she will never return there again.Patient must make same request a number of times before anything occurs. When mom arrived there, I requested bed rails to be installed on her bed and the nurse on duty suggested pushing her bed against wall as that should work to keep her from falling out of it. I demanded rails and then one of the aides suggested that they put mattress on floor so she would not injure herself if she fell. I had to finally contact a management staff and they finally had maintainance install the rails. I would have no confidence that a loved one is being helped at all. Just visit and you will see a number of patients left in their beds for lengthy term.

Don’t place your loved one at Hillcrest

Don’t place your loved one here! Unskilled staff, dirty, filthy refrigerator in dining room. For a while there were ants on the counter, crawling up the wall and even in the microwave! 2 1/2 months of this place was too long! No follow up - We asked them to check our mother’s urine because it was cloudy and smelly. We heard nothing so assumed all was well. Then 6 weeks later, when I’m at the nurse ‘s station and ready to remove her from the facility, they finally called to find the lab results of the urine culture. Yes, indeed, the culture was positive and she had a bladder infection. Absolutely lack of care or attention and a bladder infection that went untreated from mid-October to end of November. She is a fall risk, but she and others, are left unattended and subsequent accidents (falls) have happened. We had to report one of the aides for elder abuse, which they did take seriously and filed a report. Hearing my mom cry out because the shower was too cold (and the shower door standing wide open) was more than I could bear for her. Of course, you’re lucky if there is any hot water in the evening to clean up at the sink. It’sworse than camping. Recently Mom was feeling unsafe and threatened by a tall male patient who would roam the halls and come into her room different times during the day and night - but they refused to let us her move to another room. — That did it. We packed her up then and there and brought her home. They try to keep patients in diapers, extended purée diets, limit their walking.....nothing to advance their skills but to retain them as a patient. I’m sure they need the revenue. Our family visited Mom daily to check on her care, despite our multiple complaints and meetings with nursing staff there was no improvement. If I had more space, I’d fill it in with more of our complaints and concerns.

Help! NONE at Hillcrest.

Patient request to get out of bed 5 times, told sorry staff could not do it. I'm a family member, listened to aide say he couldn't help, but was on the next day at 2PM so promised he'd get my son up then. I picked up cup of pills left on tray table by morning nurse, asked PM nurse why these weren't given. He took the cup and said that shouldn't happen and he would look into it. Needless to say heard nothing more! In fairness I think four/ five staff actually do their jobs. Now as far as being rehabilitation facility, NOT seen this. Therapist shows up when they feel like it, no schedule for the patient. In fact i haven't seen a therapist show up on a daily basis. Yes I want my son out of here as soon as possible, but no cooperation on how to get him to hospital. Fact is nursing director told us our insurance is refusing to pay as he isn't getting therapy. Nurse said he has to be out by tonight, it's our problem where he goes. DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY IN HERE.

Do Not Recommend

Our experience was absolutely awful from the minute my mom arrived, even the ambulance driver was uneasy! It was the beginning of a bad experience. This place is understaffed by number and quality, as confirmed by a nursing supervisor although she said “we’re having staffing issues”. We never left that awful place for the 4 days my mom was there because of the lack of response by the staff. Very little happened unless we asked and kept asking until it happened. Because we were there to advocate for Mom and keep her due to her brain injury we became nursing staff including administering meds. Do not leave your loved one here unless they are totally capable of advocating for themselves! I can only imagine what would’ve happened to Mom if we hadn’t been there to care for her. We went in on a Friday and I got Mom out of there ASAP on Monday.

Very disappointed

Very disappointed with the care my mother is getting. Our family is always there and the stuff we see that is and is not going on is very aweful. Some of the nurses and aids don't seem to know what there doing. The aids are very messy, they never clean up my moms room and leave it a mess. We are trying to find another place for her. We are so worried about her being there alone when we're not there to be with her. So many aids and nurses, we can not understand them. This is a horrible place!!

Disappointed

Very disappointed in this facility! It always seemed a little dirty with messy areas. Questioned if adequate attention and care was always provided in this memory care unit. There seemed to be mostly poor customer service, many attitudes, for the most part the staff seemed to be unhappy. Questioned if all resident (care) needs were always being met, there never seemed to have enough staff on. Many of the residents appeared to be bored/unstimulated, wondering around or sitting alone. The memory care unit main central area has been well decorated and has a large bird (closed) environment. A few great members of the nursing staff working in the unit, unfortunately, they aren't there 24/7. Do not recommend this facility.
