NOTE: Some “4s” because it is IMPOSSIBLE (& unhealthy) to be perfect. :^) Mom chose this place herself after many years of listening to friends who have lived there in the past. I visit most days interacting with staff to provide assistance, too, because my Mom appreciates & needs family visits and help. The people who work at and manage HT try their utmost to create community & to be friendly, helpful, respectful and responsive to all their residents & their visitors, treating them each as unique individuals. The food is a good mix of hearty and healthful. The activities are imaginative and fun. This place is especially good at gradual transitions from independent to assistive living. They are pet-friendly and that is SO important to Mom, but flea transmission among pets is something for which they need to be constantly vigilant. I can almost always find a parking space in their parking garage, but there is only one, fairly cramped underground parking garage.

The staff is amazing, the activities are plentiful, rooms are clean, food is excellent. And the price is very reasonable. We couldn't rave enough about it and mom is very happy living there at 101 years old!!

My wife and I have been living here for just about one year. It's been good, very good really. We are here on an independent basis for now--apart from cooking and cleaning--and will secure assistance in the future as needed. Our living quarters, two rooms, are in excellent condition. Very comfortable, very clean. The staff are friendly, competent, and committed. Lots of activities. Secure underground parking for our car. Meals provided three times a day. Generally good food. The menu for the day is provided early in the morning, so one can select an alternative if need be. About average monthly costs when compared to other facilities we looked at before choosing Harbor Terrace. Nice location if you like to walk, as we do. Overall, then, no complaints, and much to appreciate.

Living in a Retirement Community is a new experience for me. As with any new experience, there are ups and downs and adjustments are necessary. Community living isn't for everyone, but I can honestly say that after almost a year at Harbor Terrace I am very happy with my new home. In making our decision, location was our highest priority (to be close to our son and his family). Other considerations were the number and types of activities offered, the overall atmosphere, the dining arrangements and, of course, price. I have found Harbor Terrace meets my needs in all of these ways but, most importantly, the staff are fantastic! I appreciate the respect, friendliness, care and concern of all the staff, every day in every way. I am also unexpectedly pleased to find I have made many new friends with whom I share conversation, music, activities and laughter. My social connections have expanded immensely since I became part of the Harbor Terrace Community. Lucky me!

The overall layout of the community and the rooms they provide the residents there would be a five out of five.

Thay saved my life. I was very independent but disabled when I moved. Did my own meds management and drove Moving stressed me I got very sick and stopped eating and taking meds. Front office staff was very concerned and called me every day and sent food to my room. Then they called 911 to take me to the emergency room. I had total renal failure. I am now on dyalysis and feeling much better. Now have an RN case manager recomended by Harbor Terrace to coordinate dyalysis and doctor visits and keep my family informed and I have a full time care giver to take me to dyalysis. Now starting to work again and much stronger.

I looked at several places and kept coming back to Harbor Terrace, Its nice and by the water. The people that live here seem so happy there. The staff here are friendly and attentive to him. They keep the community clean and well maintained, it has a nice courtyard he enjoys. Lots of activities such as music and comedy entertainment, Even a Happy Hour! The food is very good and have frequent movie nights too. The best thing is you can have pets here I bring my dog all the time to visit.

I have recently made the move into this community and so far things have been going alright. I do not have much interaction with the staff because I have my own caregivers that come in so I can't comment to much on them. I will say that the meals they have are awful and they do not know how to cook. I am not impressed with them at all and am hoping they make some improvements here shortly. They seem to have some nice activities available for the residents I just have not been able to participate in any of them due to my back.

I have no complaints about how things are going for my father since he made the move into this community. He is making improvements every day and has become less resistant about being there. The staff have been patient with his needs and I am comfortable with the care they have been providing him. To my knowledge everything has been going well for him and has been the perfect fit. Overall I am pleased and would recommend it to anyone.

I found this facility to be rather dated and I detected the faint odor of urine in the community room where the residents were listening to a piano player. I was alarmed by the mounting add on pricing that added quickly to the price of the room. The location is in a gang riddled part of town and for our hostess to be telling me there were a lot of places within walking distance when I obviously have mobility issues was insulting if not depressing. I will not be opting for this facility. 1947 Woman

A Place for Mom has scored Harbor Terrace Retirement Community 9.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
