My mom has been a resident at Golden pond retirement community receiving assisted living support for over a year. She was recently hospitalized and went to skilled nursing and has finally returned home. And home is what this place has come to be. So the building may be a little older it's charming and homey. Her apartment is a full- sized one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen minus a stove. However with three meals a day she doesn't need her kitchen beyond the refrigerator and microwave. The food is overall outstanding, with a variety of specials and choices available. There is always fresh fruits and salads available and often fresh vegetables. Last night's grilled asparagus with olive oil and seasoning was crisp and delicious. But what really makes Golden pond stand out is the staff. From the kitchen servers to the front desk to the aides that are there to provide support, the kindness and patience and willingness to really help stand above and beyond what I've seen elsewhere. However I'd be remiss not to also mention the variety of activities that are available on a daily basis that are engaging and fun. There is live music twice a week and at least quarterly there is a big outdoor celebration of some kind where all the families and neighbors are invited. It's really become another home away from home and I'm grateful.

My mom loves it at Golden Pond.At first, my parents were not happy about having to move. But now that Dad has passed, Mom is glad to have friends and activities to fill her days. The food is good and the staff is friendly and helpful. Transportation to doctor appointments and shopping is a plus. I would, and have, recommended them.

So I contacted A PLACE FOR MOM to get a recommendation of places near them. Golden Pond was recommended. The place was bright, clean, friendly, not stinky, and most importantly to my mom, they had a 2 bedroom apartment available. The food in the dining room is delicious. The staff is caring and attentive. The activities are varied and fun. There is transportation to doctor appointments and shopping trips. My parents weren't very happy having to move out of their house, but now they feel comfortable in their new home. Yes, it's more expensive than living in their house. But they get three meals a day plus snacks anytime. They get laundry service, house cleaning service, activities, and nursing services if needed. So, I think it's worth it. Thank you for recommending them.

I was not impressed with this community. When we go here the person that was supposed to tour was not there. They called around and could not find the person and the front desk lady had to do the tour. We asked her how much the rate was and she was not able to give exact information. the person that was supposed to meet with us followed up a week later and we had already made a decision.
My mothers lap blanket disappeared in two weeks here. The staff is slow. There are bugs in the apartments that are supposed to be sprayed someday. The place smells, the attention is minimal and the food is either wrong or minimal if you don't ask. Might as well be slummin.

There are some staff that are really good and there are some that are sleep walking. This community works for the care that they are able to provide for my loved one. A lot depends on availability at the time that you are looking for care. Among the other communities this is probably one of the best that there are and it came with high recommendations. There is the potential for great care but my loved ones circumstances can make it somewhat difficult. My loved one was on her on for a long time and she is very strong willed so the transition has been trying.

This is a good community. Golden Pond is the best I have found for my loved one. I like that it is in more a neighborhood setting and not on a busy street. This building is next to a school, and it is fun to see the youth around on the community. The staff is very nice and accommodating to the resident's needs. I wish the community had more activities outside of the community. They do have weekly outings, I just wish it was more for my loved one. They have monthly meetings for the residents to voice what they would like to see happen more. The have a meal plan, a bistro, and more. I think overall it is an awesome place.

The staff were friendly and they were easy to get into at this community. They were very caring and kept my loved one informed the whole time he was in there.

This is a family environment community. They genuinely care for the people that they serve and they are willing to go the extra mile. They have activities like bingo, movie night, contest during different holidays, entertainment that comes in and more for the residents.

This place is horrible. Rooms are broken down and have cockroaches. Food is horrible and you have to eat when told. You lose all independence. The staff will not help and will demean your loved one. Please do not leave your family there. You will regret it.

My biggest regret is leaving my parent there. The pictures are nothing like reality. The rooms are broken down and have cockroaches. The cabinets and drawers are broken and don't work. The heater and A/C never work. The food options are very limited and you starve if you don't like it or don't feel like eating when told to. They don't follow needs such as soft foods or help cutting things. If you are not independent, you will suffer. They do not want to help people and will make it known. They don't answer the call button for hours. They won't help with mobility issues, so your family member will sit there helpless. They ridicule, mock, and demean residents and then try to convince the family that their family member is old and senile. The medicines are not administered properly, if at all, and medicines go missing regularly. Maybe this facility is okay for independent people, but if they need any assistance, please do not leave your loved one there.

Our family was able to do an in person tour and it was great, but it was an older facility. It is also close to 10 miles outside of Sacramento so the location was not ideal. However, they continued to follow up after the tour and were super helpful.
Overall the community was pretty good. I feel they were pretty average across the board. I would recommend this community to others.

My mom and dad moved in about 5 months ago. They are very well cared for by the Golden Pond staff. We are very please with our decision. Some of the other places were too big and we felt our mom and dad weren’t getting good attention from the staff at the other homes. They need more medical care now and are looked after well. Thank you Golden Pond staff for making my parents last years of life enjoyable! Sincerely, [name removed]

They have been amazing at keeping an eye out on mom. She was not at all happy to leave her home. They work constantly to keep her involved, watch out for problems, and anticipate where she will need guidance and interaction on their part. I'm sure we waited longer than we should have to make her move. They have made the most of it. Even dealing with her unhappy partner, that has complicated life immensely. Thanks so much to them for their patience.

A Place for Mom has scored Golden Pond Retirement Community 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
