I have a loved one in this community that tells me they never want to leave because it is their home. This coming from someone that was adamant on not moving to an assisted living. The facility worked with my loved one's finances and when the time came to transition to Medicaid, the facility let her stay in her room and it was a seamless transition. I hear horror stories all the time on these other facilities kicking residents to the curb once they take all their money. The staff is wonderful and caring. The food is excellent. The activities are fun for all. I'm pleased overall with the care provided.... Read more

On a March evening of this year, my mother got up to close her window, but fell instead. She had no call bell or necklace alert and laid in front of an open window on a cold floor all night, calling for help that did not arrive until 8 am. In the ER, she was assessed to have suffered a broken hip and was hypothermic to 95 degrees. She is almost 90.

At [facility removed] now High Point. Our mother was placed into Covid isolation, without symptoms, on [date removed]. She had a long-standing untreated UTI made much worse when almost no one came in to bring food, water, or medications. She was bedridden after three days from leg pain. Family was not allowed by the health-care director to visit or even talk with her on the phone, but assured daily by staff she was up and about and doing well. In the ER on Dec 30 she thought she would die from the dehydration and leg pain and was hospitalized for this. She essentially lost the ability to walk because her legs were weakened from this ordeal. [name removed]

Having my mom move into a senior living facility to ensure her safety, happiness, daily cares, daily socialization and activities, healthy meals, medication management, & a clean, cheerful living environment is the upmost importance for my sister & I, while also providing us a huge weight off our shoulders as it was constant worry and stress while she was living alone at home, needing more & more assistance through the day to take care of herself. This facility has made us feel as if our mom is not receiving the care expected & promised for how much she is paying each month. We spend more time having to help her and tidy up her room appropriately than we do being able to visit with her. During the day, activities continue to provide the bare minimum activities that are the same every week, every month. The food more often than not isn’t easily editable for my mother, who has dentures. It’s also often bare minimum lacking quality daily nutrients that are so important for the elderly.

I would give the staff a 5. Great girls, helpful, friendly loved them. Cleanliness I would give a 3 though it could have been better. However, I'm fussy. My dad couldn't do activities so I have no rate on that. Overall, I would recommend Ellens Home. The comment I want to give is I hope the CNA' S are paid well, meaning enough to raise a family. Also, they should get benefits if they don't. These girls are what matters to us as family members for our loved ones.

I would recommend - it's a friendly and homey atmosphere. But am leery only because the level of training for the care givers did not seem that good. A few were very good, but some didn't seem to know what they were doing. And of course short staffed, as probably most facilities are.

Our family had an in person tour with Ellen's Home South and overall it was a nice tour experience but what we were looking for, for our loved one we just did not think it was going to be the best fit.
I am disappointed in the care my good friend received while here. They are short staffed and simply can’t provide the care that residents deserve . They also started and spread false rumors which caused division between loved ones during an already very emotional time.

My mother and father in law moved to Ellen's Home South in 2021 and there have been issues from day one. The tour is great and the director promises many things but the place just doesn't deliver. The nurse/director supposedly trains the pca/cnas/and medication aides but when 4 aides didn't know how to use a hoyer lift, which the facility provides, that's an issue. Expect long call wait times: my loved one was on the floor after falling for over an hour before the light was answered. Infection control: what's that:? CDC c-diff guidelines are gown, glove: they just wear gloves. Activities: movies. The staff act like it's an inconvenience to ask them for anything: 4 staff and 2 residents were watching TV how dare I interrupt them to put my loved one on the toilet. Both loved ones got butt ulcers. The staff don't wear name tags or introduce themselves so when there is a problem t's hard to find out who was involved. LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! I could go on but am limited to 1000 words.

Response from Ellen's Home of Germantown South
February 6, 2023Dear Denyse. I'm sorry that you are not happy with the services we have provided your mother-in-law [name removed]. She told the Surveyer from the State DHS, that you contacted, that she was very happy at Ellen's Home and wanted to remain there. The Hoyer you refer to is not Ellen's Home but belongs to [name removed]. It is a specialized Hoyer due to [name removed] size and is different from the ones we use. That is why staff wanted to confirm with each other before just moving [name removed] in it to make sure they were using it correctly. Which they did making it very safe for R's transfer. It's very easy to get skin breakdown when you are bed bound. Being an RN yourself, I would think you would be aware of this. The state also reviewed our infection control policy when surveying and confirm it was fine. We have a very varied activity program. The calendar is posted. We always continue to improve our services to enrich the lives of all of our residents. We enjoy having [name removed] with us and hope she can enjoy again this year the garden beds we purchased for her to use from her wheelchair. Thanks for reaching out!
Ellen's Home South tried hard to work with us and make the process easier. In general, I would give them a high mark. As far as the type of care, I think it was okay. My mom only ended up being there for five days before she passed. With the level of caregivers some of them seemed good, if there was one available. One day there were only two people for the whole building. I understand the shortage of worker bees and finding people who are willing to work, I just think in general they could have used more help and training. Other than that, I'd give them high marks. My mom ended up needing way more care than we thought, so that put a little clink in it. All of that aside, they did a nice job and were easy to work with. It's a very nice facility as well.
Ellen's Home South was able to take my 94 y/o mom on an emergency basis due to water issues in our home. We ultimately decided to have her stay here permanently. Everyone was so friendly, professional, and caring to all of us. [name removed] and her staff were amazing in providing for all her needs and encouraging my mom to participate in the different activities. We didn't think mom would participate as much as she did, but she surprised us. She got the socialization she needed and she made new friends too! Mom only was able to be here for a little over a month before she passed away peacefully. We would highly recommend Ellen's Home South to anyone looking for a great place for a parent to move to. Laundry is done promptly, meals were nutritional, and everything was very clean. There was a very homey atmosphere too. We want to say a huge "thank you" to the entire staff and wish we could have had a longer relationship with them.

I would rate this place a -5 if I could. This is the worst Assisted Living Facility in Wisconsin. The residents there are treated VERY Horrible !!! If anyone is considering sending their loved one to this place, I would STRONGLY URGE You Not To. YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY REGRET YOUR DECISION!! Management is very disorganized unprofessional have 0 ounce of empathy and compassion for the residents and caregivers. There caregivers are extremely overworked and unappreciated. The residents are not getting the proper care they need at all. This facility need to be SHUT DOWN FOR GOOD!!! “ THEY ARE TRULY A DISGRACE!! ELLEN’S HOME is a “EMBARRASSMENT” they give Assisted Living a BAD REPUTATION!! There main focus is MONEY MONEY & MORE MONEY!!

Response from Ellen's Home of Germantown South
February 7, 2022Obviously you are a disgruntled employee who was terminated for not performing to the highest of standards that Ellen's Home requires of all of its staff. If you were truly a family member you would move your loved one out and put your name all over this review so you could answer questions by others who had concerns about Ellen's Home. If anyone would truly like feedback from a resident or family member, they just need to contact us. We can get you in contact with actual customers not an anonymous platform where terminated employees or our competitors can leave unsubstantiated reviews.
This is a small and very homey feeling community. Everyone is really nice and well taken care of. They do have a lot of activities that I see happening often my loved one just does not participate.

My father-in-law stayed at Ellen's Home until his passing. It was a wonderful experience for the whole family. He was taken very well care of. He loved the homemade food and activities with all the residents. He enjoyed being able to go in and out of the secured patio at any time he wanted. He was able to transition to Family Care, Title 19, when his funds ran out. He did not have to move out or even to another room. We are grateful to find such a wonderful place for him to live out the rest of his life in comfort, safety and show such love and kindness. I would highly recommend this home.

I researched all of the nursing homes and assisted living in my area when it was time to find a home for my mother. I was most impressed with Ellen's home and my mom has been there since last November. [Name removed] and all her workers are amazing! My mom is not easy to handle and they do it with patience and kindness on a daily basis. I am so grateful and highly recommend them!!

I wish I would've had the foresight to see that this facility was not the right fit for my dad. They claim to serve people with dementia but we feel that they did not have the skill set to properly care for someone with dementia. There are certain techniques which should have been employed but they did not seem to understand that. We feel that it takes a special person to care for the elderly and we did not feel that some staff Members had what it takes . The caring attitude needs to start from the top and work its way down. We are giving two stars for the attractiveness of the facility and the good food they served.

I had a good tour of this community. I toured it for my father, and his needs. The community looked nice, and clean. The staff was kind, and friendly to my family, and myself. Unfortunately this wasn't the right fit for my father, and his needs.
