Poorly managed facility

My mother was a resident for 6 years. Was terrific until new management took over a year ago and the place fell apart. Good quality dropped, ratio of care givers to resident dropped, they did away with transition plans between shifts and gave everyone iPads to try and figure out the care, medical changes and behavioral issues. Staff lies about care, management is over bearing to them, so very high turnover. The days of personal relationships with residents went out the door. They are transitioning from memory care to assisted living. That way they maximize their revenue per resident while reducing care, staff and cost. My mother was totally neglected along with others. When I contacted the state their response was to evict her. Really a heartless bunch of people. Advocate for your loved ones because institutional care is abysmal. Absolutely would NOT recommend.

Great place

I moved my mom in here a couple of months ago. The staff was very welcoming and made my mom feel at home right away. She made some friends with a group of ladies who she chats with at every me. The activities are engaging and they make them doable for all levels.

Better than we hoped for

When my dad moved in a year ago, I had no idea what to expect. The team at (now) Columbia Landing has become like family to us. My dad has been doing so well there, he is content and thriving. The food is always tasty, my dad is a big fan of the desserts. Activities folks are great, I don’t know how they do what they do but they keep everyone busy! In a lot of ways this place has given parts of my dad back to me, at least more quality time with him and I appreciate that more than I can explain here.

Much Better than I'd Hoped For!

We are 5 months strong at Fieldstone. The bright cheerful community is very welcoming. The administration staff [name removed] are readily available and extremely helpful with everything. Since there is no manual for caring for aging parents. And Mom's care team[name removed] to name a few!. Are wonderful. The food is yummy hooray! We are thankful for everything. "Lifeloop" Since we have family that lives far away. And your activities team at Fieldstone.... Hats off to [name removed] You guys "rock" mom's world! They take mom on outings! No small feat as she is completely wheel Chair bound. But best of all for me, is their Beach Ball Therapy-Mom is actually raising her arms to swing at the ball. Best PT Ever is fun PT. Anyway, keep up the great work at Fieldstone! Sure glad we found you, because there is comfort in knowing Mom's last days are going to be "GREAT" days at Fieldstone!

I really don't even know where to begin other than from the start. Before we moved Mom into Fieldstone, we felt the love of the community - this love just grew - the whole time Mom was with you. We always felt respect and compassion, every time we walked through the front doors and were always greeted with a smile and or a hug. The foundation we built together for your care for Mom - just grew, every single day - right through the very end. If there was an issue - it was dealt with immediately, honestly and transparency. Honest open communication is something that is so important. While Mom often asked, "why am I here?" Our answer was always the same; "Mom, you have Alzheimer's and your doctors recommend 24 hour care. We are just 20 minutes away, you are getting loving care here at Fieldstone and you are SAFE." She agreed, almost every time and when she didn't ...well she was just in one of those moods. We often during visits heard Mom reassuring as stressed resident saying; "it is ok - you are safe here." Signing over the complete care for a venerable loved one is no simple or easy task. It is wrought with emotions and questions of timing and am I doing the right thing - now. We were never pressured only supported. [name removed] said, "we're here, we're ready and will love [name removed] when you're ready." That promise was kept. Over the past two years we got to know many of the residents and crew. We would often bring our Lab "Sadie" in our regular visits. She loved coming in and greeting so many of the residents - all the while, cleaning up the food scraps on the floor. As our visits often occurred around meal times. Residents faces would light up seeing a happy and familiar dog. When were in Mom's room, Mom would stroke Sadie's ears or she'd just go to sleep at Mom's feet. We all know how much Mom loves animals. Getting back to the foundation of our relationship. When COVID hit, I had complete confidence that your actions were always to protect the residents, then staff, and the business model will just have to adapt. You did the right thing - every single time. You closed the doors to visitors on [date removed], well ahead of state or federal guidelines. I never had concerns for Mom's safety - because we know the character of the management and care staff of the facility, Our faith in you and Mom's safety was never in question. As we all adjusted to life with COVID the communication with loved ones living in assisted or skilled facilities was a challenge. Not being able to have eyes on contact was difficult and taxing on us all. Throughout, we always knew Mom was safe. The daily updates from [name removed] were a solum reminder of what you all must have been dealing with - we are forever thankful for all of your efforts, given the personal and professional hell you must have endured. This was on display when I was in last week as Mom's condition declined rapidly. The communication from management, nursing and care staff was timely, professional and compassionate. Many of you came in to say your goodbyes to Mom. Many of you shared stories - some of you I met for the first time - others of you have been there from the start. From [name removed] tear filled eyes of attention and constant support, To [name removed], coming in with tears in his eyes telling me, "[name removed] - this is really going to be a tough one." To the nursing crew for your professionalism and compassion. To the genuine loving smiles from [name removed] and [name removed] , for the residents. To [name removed] and [name removed] just coming in with tears in your eyes to tell me thank you for sharing your Mom with us. We're going to miss her smile and humor. To [name removed] with his omnipresent grin. To [name removed] for stepping up big time during Mom's last night. I think her name is [name removed]- who, I'd not previously met. She sought me out and wanted me to know about her interactions with Mom. She told me about how her whole family contracted COVID because a family member was a nurse at the epicenter facility in Kirkland. Thankfully - all are well. What really got me is when she told me about how Mom always encouraged her to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse. [name removed] - you have been with us twice a week for Face Time and window visits for I don't know how long. You are truly an angel. [name removed] (I know you spell it differently), thank you for how you attended to Mom and made her feel special - from clothes to earrings and making sure she always had chocolate in her little red purse. Your love for Mom was truly a beautiful thing to observe - pre COVID right to the end. [name removed] - you are a pro and you do your job so well. When you came in to check and provide a bit more morphine, if necessary. We looked at each-other and agreed it will not be necessary. We new Mom's was passing. You asked me if you'd if I'd like to be alone or do you want me to stay. "Please stay", I said. We both kneeled and held Mom as she gently and peacefully passed. You said, "I'm not getting a pulse." I agreed and said she's gone on her way to see Dad. We stood up and both of us with tears in our eyes - we hugged. You said, "[name removed] i'm so sorry, I'm really going to miss your Mom." Me too, I replied. What I'm about to share is what I told [name removed] and with many of you before or after Mom passed. I said, " [name removed] you and this entire crew did your jobs with excellence and professionalism and so much more. When COVID hit and we could not come in to love on our loved ones. You didn't hesitate you picked up that ball and loved on Mom and her fellow residents when we could not. You carried that ball of love and did not drop it, even when you were going through personal and professional hell. We are so very thankful. You replied, "thank you very much - it is my honor." Theard so many of you say, with tears in your eyes - it is my honor. The whole Fieldstone team - we are so very thankful for everything that you have done to help us in caring for [name removed]. It has been our Honor to place this sacred trust it you. Love and forever hugs,

My mom moved into this community 2 years ago. We love it, my mom is very happy her quality of life is important to us and the staff go above and beyond to get to know her and make sure she is happy. All of the people who live here have dementia, so it is always lively. Lots of Activities and the food is great.

I have worked in senior living for over ten years. This community is different from other memory cares because they truly feed on engagement. Most residents are out of their rooms everyday and appear to be happy. Staff are generally the same every time I am here which is nice to see. I feel good referring family to this community.

Wonderful

Words cannot express my gratitude for everyone of you! From the director, nurses, health care aides, cooks, cleaning staff, activity people, maintenance, and front office. You all are angels on earth! I won't list names, as I am sure I would forget someone vital. Know that I saw you and I acknowledge your contribution to loving and caring for [name removed]. Each of you used your gifts to make his time there safe, special and full of love! He never once asked if he cold come home because you made him feel he was home! The most difficult decision and the biggest blessing is realizing someone can take better care of your loved one than you can! Knowing all of [name removed] needs were taken care of allowed me to come in and just be his wife! I hadn't been able to do that for years! Getting to come in as his Sweetie Pie everyday and just love him was the best gift you could have given me! I saw the anguish on your faces when he was having a bad day. And I saw the joy on your faces when he would see, me smile, and give me a big hug-then off we go, walking hand in hand! Know that what you do makes a huge difference in the lives of each resident and the loved ones who come to visit. I wish I was a multi-millionaire and could give you each a bonus deserving of your talents and my gratitude. I will continue to pray for each of you every day, as I have the last 18 months. Thank you!

Lack of care and attention

I would not recommend this facility to anyone who wants their loved one to be well taken care of. The lack of care and attention to the cleanliness of the residents is appalling. They provide the excuse of not giving residents showers by saying that the resident refused to have a shower, but they won't spend the time to convince the resident that they need the care. I agree with a previous reviewer that there are many times that I have been there when the "caretaker" are busy looking at their phones instead of tending to residents (and the "reason" that they are looking at instructions for other residents doesn't ring true). Obviously, the caretakers have been told that a resident says "no" to a care task, that the caretaker doesn't need to do that. A resident with Alzheimers will not know what they need, so it should be up to the caretaker to talk them into taking a shower, putting on clean clothes, etc. I am looking into other options to move my loved one to another facility.

Incredibly Awful

The staff are exceptionally rude and use intimidation to get their way. You are not allowed to ask questions of any of the staff or you will be threatened with banishment from the property. While where are some good individual staff members, if you visit off hours you will see most of them on their phones and really annoyed at being bothered by you or the residents. It's all window dressing and no substance. If you care about your loved one, do not let them go here.

Response from Ciel of Issaquah

May 10, 2022

Elizabeth, Again, I am sorry for the experience that you’ve had at Fieldstone Issaquah. As I mentioned in my last response, our Care Team members have mobile devices with which they receive notifications and information that directly relates to the care of our Residents, including your Mom. While I’m sure it looks like they are checking their phones a lot, they are – in fact – interacting with their Fieldstone-issued mobile devices. As I also mentioned in my last response, I would love to meet you at the community next time you come to visit. As you have sought to receive clarification about both subjects, perhaps we could sit down and discuss both the usage of our mobile devices as well as our Life Enrichment schedule. I would also be happy to facilitate another conference call with you if that would help. Please feel free to give me a ring at any time! Sincerely, Wayne
