Response from Charter Senior Living of Bowie
December 4, 2024Thank you so much again for your feedback! We hope you have a great day!
Placed my 99 y.o. father there. He needed a smaller facility with more staff than where he had been. Initial impressions from management on down were very good. However, as time passed I found I had to be there to ensure his needs were being met. He was supposed to be on a laundry and shower schedule, but was not given this service untill I insisted they do this. I found him in the common area one time with a swollen arm seeping fluid onto himself, his wheelchair and all over the floor. When I told the duty nurse, her response was "the human body does that sometimes." I was appalled and got the director involved. He was taken to the hospital. Things improved when Hospice got involved. They were amazing. He passed away a few weeks later. Lesson learned: don't ever assume any facility will fulfill their obligations. Your loved one must have an advocate to ensure their care.

What our family likes the most about Charter Senior Living is the executive director is very proactive and willing to do what it takes to resolve issues. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

June 25, 2024Hello, thank you for sharing your positive experience! Your recommendation means so much to us and we're so happy to have earned it. Thank you again for taking the time to let the world know about your positive experience. Have a great day!
The food can always be better but both of our loved ones have gained weight there so it can't be that bad. The pricing could be better too. Mom complained about the lack of activities and that almost all the other residents were wheelchair bound and more feeble than she

June 21, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to leave us this feedback. Thank you.
The move in process left a lot to be desired. It took they forever to fix the broken drawer in my mom's room and the broken toilet paper holder and the cable still does not work almost two months later. I don't think much of the doctor/nurse practitioner. I asked them for a letter from the doctor to take to the social security office about a month ago and am still waiting. I had to cancel my appointment with the SS office. Also, I had an appointment for a care meeting 3 days ago and am still waiting to hear from them. I think the meals are great. My mother seems to like everything that they serve. The assisted living side is gorgeous, but the memory care side is kind of bland and cold. As far as staff, they do whatever I ask, however it is hard for me to understand them. Most of them speak with a strong accent. I don't think they communicate with the family as much as I would like.

It was nice. My mom liked the food and they were always cleaning. We picked this community, because It was close to my house. It was also, clean and in budget and had activities.

The community is quick to acknowledge any of the family's concerns. They have friendly and helpful staff. This feels like a home away from home for my loved one. It would be nice for the community to spruce up the surroundings a bit with some paint to cover up any patch areas.

I thought Charter Senior Living of Bowie was okay. The rooms were small, but the staff was really nice. For us, they were tied with another facility for 2nd / 3rd choice when it came to decision time.
Great tour. Nice facility. Not sure about space/size needed for two people.

The staff at Heartfields made our family feel at home from the first day my parents moved in to the community. The staff is caring, kind and knowledgeable regarding the resident needs. As my parents daughter, whenever I bring up a need or things my parents need, it is addressed immediately! The nursing and care staff keeps me informed of any changes, big or small, in my Mom's condition.

Well, they do not provide clarity between their levels of care. In other words, they have several different levels of care that they provide. I asked them if there was any documentation that detailed the different levels and exactly what it means and they said they don't and that it's done on a formula and everyone is individually evaluated, which I didn't like. The people are great though and my mother loves the people who take care of her, they are very sweet and kind.

August 5, 2015Thank you so much for your positive review, and we are pleased your mother is happy with her care and new home. Please stop by our Executive Directors office anytime, so we can more fully explain the LOC. It is, somewhat, a complex explanation, but we want to be able to fully explain the Maryland State LOC and how that equates to charges, so thank you for letting us know we can do a better job at this explanation upfront. Again, thanks for the positive review and welcome to the family!
good nursing care with 24 hour nursing coverage.

It was really nice, the place was really really pretty but it was too expensive. We were in a private office and just kind of talked to them, we did walk through but we didn't really see the staff and the residents.

The staff were very helpful up front when we moved my mother into Heartfields. About one week into her stay we had an incident where most of my mother's undergarments were missing. We escalated to the Heartfields management team and they resolved the problems. The good news is my mother's health has improved visibly since joining the community at Heartfields. She has dementia and had serious alzheimer related symptoms which prompted the family to move her to the Heartfields. Over the past two weeks my mother's memory and alertness have improved. She is adapting to the Hearfields community.

I really liked. The alsheimers unit was huge. Trying to remember size of rooms. I think they were small.

She loved the decor and was very impressed with the Alzheimers unit ... and we very much liked the manager PLUS it was the first place where she felt the food was good. However, it was smaller (fewer residents) than she liked and it was further from me than she wished to live.
