Carolina Gardens at Kathwood

It is sad to write a poor review of a facility that took care of your loved one for quite a few years. Carolina Gardens at Kathwood has so much potential and some nice, caring people on staff (the kitchen staff are apparently long time and fabulous) but the place has been a mess.Over the years, they have been sold two, three or more times. The elevator is broken so often that it is expected to see one or both out of commission when you show up.The grounds are nice and the facility is well kept and attractive. The level of care at times was very poor. The turnover of leadership staff seemed constant. You simply can't be first class under those conditions.

[Name removed]showed me around the facility and I was impressed: clean, appeared well maintained and many residents were excited to be boarding the transport bus for their Wednesday Walmart shopping trip. 3 floors with elevator access and mostly all set up the same for dining, lounge/TV areas. Areas appear recently remodeled and easy for residents to move around in W/c or walking.

Carolina Gardens at Kathwood was a very nice and clean community that we toured. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We chose another community because, in the end, it was my mom's choice.

My mother in law is still adjusting to living at this community. The staff have been fabulous and have helped every step of the way. The entire staff watch out for her. She likes the food and they do offer a variety of activities. They keep the community clean. We felt the most comfortable with this community and I have already recommended it.

I had a very bad experience during my tour of this community. The executive director was not available to give us a tour. So a nurse gave us the tour. The community appeared well-kept, but the apartment we were shown looked horrible. They never followed up with us. There are major improvement this community need to make. I would not recommend this community.

When I went into your this community, I noticed that it was more towards the assisted living. I did not see as many residents out and about while there. The tour guide was friendly, she took me around and answered all of my questions. I did not see anything out of place.

My Aunt has lived there for almost two years. It has been taken over by a new company and has gone down hill since. The front door can be entered with code but does not lock immediately, so anyone can exit after someone else leaves. My Aunt has Dementia and keeps escaping. They told us last time she had tried to escape several times, so they must not have kept an eye on her and let her escape. She has been found one time down at Publix little over a mile away and was bruised all over. She lost here boyfriend awhile back and was grieving. She wouldn't get out of bed for several days and they didn't even get her out of bed to get to eat or anything. We are moving her into another home and hopefully will get better care.The activity director left since they cut her budget so much she could not do much for the residents. They also lost most of the old caretakers.

Our experience with Carolina Gardens has been a very good one, overall. It's a nice looking place, and the staff seem friendly and professional. The marketing person I worked with was helpful and very accommodating! My loved one has settled in well, and really seems to be enjoying himself here!

Our experience with Agape Senior of Kathwood was only a brief one, but I thought they did a good job overall. It is a nice looking, well kept facility, and they did a great job keeping the residents active and involved. The activities director is fantastic! However, I do think they could have been a bit more coordinated in regards to the communication both between staff members and with the families.

very very neat and clean facility it is clean inside and outside i would recommend to other families i gave the location a rating of 5 star i think the staff is very friendly i gave the friendliness a 5 star rating as well the staff is very very helpful i gave the value a 5

We enjoyed our visit very much but feel as though this does not "match" my mother's needs. Thank you for your time and the nice tour!

Spoke with Mr. Phelps. Health insurance questions arose re: transferring coverage from state to state. Decided it was not a good idea. Very helpful otherwise.

Toured the facility July 10. The residents were enjoying lunch. There are 3 floors with a nurses station on each. Everyone was friendly. Agape provides many services which I find useful. I like the philosophy and Agape's Director seems to understand the needs of those needing care and the needs of the family.

Staff said my dad can go to social activities there even if he doesn't live there. Can help with VA Aid & Attendance.
