Overall my experience has been positive. I typically get a prompt response to any issues I raise. The staff always seems very gentle/compassionate/patient when interacting with the residents. I will always wish my mom could be at home, but since she can't, I think this is an excellent facility. I am very satisfied that she is receiving very good care there.

I think Brookdale turned out not to be the best fit for my Mom because after her fall, she needed more medical attention than they were prepared to give.

July 5, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care and we will share your feedback with our management team.
I would say that overall, the community has great staff, but some staff try harder than others. Also, they had problems with staff not showing up, being short staffed like everywhere else. Sometimes you had to ask staff to do obvious things that needed done. Also, you have to watch your loved one for medical issues as sometimes staff did not notice or report it to the nurse. Meals are good. Activities were great in the facility, but no outside the facility activities were done while my dad lived there. I would recommend the place to others, but I would say you still need to visit often to make sure things for your loved one are being done.

Mom lived at Brookdale Peacehaven for the last 2 years. Our experience with the staff and the residents was a good one. I went almost everyday and they became like an extended family to us. Alzheimer's is such a a difficult disease and without their help, kindness and care, it would have been a very different life for us. My mother was treated with kindness and respect. The staff does the best they can each day. They are special humans that do this kind of work. We are thankful for each one of them that showed up and cared for my Mom.

The way I describe Brookdale to people, is that it is staffed by a group of angels. Everyone is so kind and caring to the residents. You can tell that they are genuinely interested by the way they patiently listen and interact with them. It is always bright, cheerful and clean! I’m at ease knowing that I don’t have to worry about my mother when I’m not there, because I know that she is cared for with love.

They looked good all dressed up!! Since Covid, they can't keep staff, the ones they do hire are not experienced and the services they offer are not followed through with. We are constantly saddened by the care. I'm told this is happening everywhere. I think they are doing their best under circumstances. We have recommended the facility to an acquaintance.

June 30, 2023We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear we are not meeting all of your expectations. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss with you further and encourage you to reach out to our management team.
The staff is friendly overall. Most of them are trying to do the best that they can with the residents. The facility itself is nice and clean. The meals are very well done. They offer plenty of activities (crafts, music, food, etc.). Overall it has been a good experience.

My mother arrived and was distressed. They charged us extra fees because she was an escape risk. Two days later they asked us to get a 24 hour nurse because she was aggressive. Five days after we moved in, she was admitted to the hospital with a UTI (partially the cause of the aggression) and we were asked not to come back. The fee was $XX,XXX [amount removed] for 5 days. When we went to pick up my mother's stuff, they acted angry at us. I was excited about my mom being at the community for the remainder of her life. Now I can't drive by the place without getting a stomach ache. If your loved one has any difficult transitions issues, this is not the place for you - even though it is lovely on the surface.

February 14, 2023We are sorry to hear you have some concerns about your mother's time in our community, and we are aware you previously worked with our community management team. Please know that we are committed to providing quality care to every resident. We take these comments seriously and have forwarded your concerns to our corporate management team. Thank you.
We really like the smaller scale of the community, it worked out well for our loved one. The staff members were amazing to us, everyone was always very friendly and very caring. Based on our experience we would absolutely recommend Brookdale Winston-Salem to other families.

We paid more than [amount removed] a month, housekeeping was sporadic,, food left on my mom’s floor in her room for weeks. I would wait sometimes 10 minutes to get buzzed in, nobody would know where my mom was. My mom’s clothing was gone, she’d be wearing other residents clothing. She didn’t have her hair washed for at least 3 weeks. Several residents begged for water from visitors, very sad.

I find that the staff is very attentive to the patients. They're very friendly to visitors coming in, and they know who you are typically. I see the same faces there among the staff, which is reassuring to me. My mother seems as happy as a person can be when they're in a community such as that. It's not the ideal living arrangement for anyone, but she's relatively happy all things considered since she can't be at home. I've been very pleased with what has happened at Brookdale in terms of her care.

I wouldn't recommend this community to anyone for their loved one's. They sent my loved on to the hospital the first day. The staff member called me from their home during the day, to let me know they were sending my loved one to the hospital due to being combative. The administrator stated that they were doing an emergency discharge, and then I wasn't able to get my money back for over a month.

September 26, 2022Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents. Your feedback has been shared with our management team for review.
The administration team and the executive team are all very consciousness with their own staff team and the residents living there. The staff and the community itself is very well designed and even with current circumstance making things more difficult at times the staff are doing they best that they can. The activities that they list and what they follow through with don't always match up. We understand the activities depend on the number of participates but we would to see more engaging activities. However the staff are still very attentive to the resident's and are very loving and kind. Based on our experience so far we would recommend this community to others.

we toured this community and liked it a lot. we loved the people there, but it was just too far away for our loved one and other family members.
The community is friendly, willing to help the residents, and they are concerned as well. Some of the activities available are dance, walking, art classes, bingo, and more are available for the residents to choose from.

We toured Brookdale and they were very thorough with us and went over every little thing. We did not choose it because my parents would have been in the same room and they had different sleeping schedules, so we needed an apartment with separate rooms for them.
We chose Brookdale Winston because our interaction with the staff was key when we were looking. they were very kind, warm, and the way they talked about their residents and they were open to have us talk to other family members. My mom had a big room with a roommate, we were very pleased with the physical environment of the facility as well as her individual room. it had a lot of space and natural light. We felt like we were part of a team, they valued our input and wanted us to reach out as much as we were comfortable with. They never discouraged us from visits and gave many opportunities for zoom calls and porch visits. I would highly recommend.

They would not accept my father because of his disability and advanced dementia after we were already told we would be accepted. Felt like we were dealing with a used car sales person instead of a trustworthy representative of this company. Total waste of my family’s time. Would not recommend.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
