I have been impressed that all the staff members know each of the residents by name, and they know family members as well. They welcome and encourage family participation.

A positive place for mom at a difficult time

The staff was great. Everyone knew [name removed] and her story as well as our family. They were attuned to her needs. There was daily activities as well as outings. As [name removed] illness progressed they were supportive to all our needs. The building was in need of updating and that was starting to happen . Brookdale definitely gave [name removed] a better quality of life and we are grateful

would not recommend

Med tech staff does not communicate. Nobody ever answers the phone. They do not do laundry as they should. My mom was in dirty diapers a lot. I had to call 911 as she was severely dehydrated after having explosive diarrhea.

Review for Brookdale Wilmington

People in need of higher level of care need to really research the facility to make sure it can meet the needs of their loved one.I picked it because I was assured they could provide care for my husband. It seemed like a nice place when I visited it looked like a nice and homey environment. Unfortunately, they were not able to provide the care he needed and I needed to find a place that could provide the appropriate care.

Wonderful Staff!!

The staff members at Brookdale Wilmington have been very attentive and that is something we really like about the community. The community is also clean and they offer good activities for the residents. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend them to other families.

Our tour

We toured Brookdale Wilmington during our search for a Memory Care facility for our loved one. The Memory Care unit at this facility was very sad and dreary. The furniture was old and the atmosphere was not very cheery. However, the staff that gave us our tour was lovely. We had a great tour, I just didn't like the environment.

A comfortable place for your loved ones

This facility is really good. I love the staff. My loved one is very comfortable here, it's like being at home. It's a smaller facility and feels very homey, with a very friendly atmosphere. Housekeeping seems to be done daily. Her room is always clean and her bed is always made. Communication with the family is good. They call me and I call them, when needed. They have a Newsletter and a Facebook Page, which is nice and also helpful. They have a variety of activities and there's always something going on. I would most definitely recommend this facility to family and friends.

My Family's Disappointing Experience

My family and I particularly sought a secured community for memory care residents; therefore, we expected that Brookdale would have expertise in working with residents with memory care issues and were highly disappointed when they put our loved one out in less than three months. We appreciate the fact that staff were very friendly. However, communication with family could certainly be improved upon. My family was appalled and blindsided when our loved one was abruptly discharged without prior communication of any warning from staff. We were taken aback when our resident was sent out to ER and we were told he could not return but would be immediately discharged. I was shocked.

I've toured and spent time at Brookdale Wilmington. From what I've seen, it looks like a great place. We chose another community because Brookdale wasn't a good fit for my mom's needs.

Proceede with caution

I would say to avoid this community for your loved one. I over communicated with the staff but I do not feel like it was returned. My loved one was in memory care and had to go to the hospital twice and I was not sure that she was being properly watched while at this community. There could be someone maybe in a different situation than my loved one that may be able to manage being at this community.

I Feel My Loved One is Safe Here

This is best dementia care place I have seen. The resident numbers are low, and the staff to residents ratio is really good. The staff are very friendly and care about the residents well. They know all the residents by name. The staff are responsive to questions or concerns that the family has about our loved one. They try to keep the residents engaged in activities. Some of the activities include gardening, exercises, trivia, games, arts and crafts, and more for the residents to participate in. There are at least two different room options to choose from. Showering, dressing, and medication management are some of the care offered by the community.

The only place I can see my Mother being content in.

I had no idea how the transition to Brookdale would go for my mother but after a couple of weeks and a bump here and there I am now quite comfortable in my decision. The staff is wonderful. She has been there now 2 years. I can’t believe how this trying year went for those on the staff but for me, seeing and talking with my mother every week via FaceTime and knowing the extraordinary measures they were going through to keep the residents safe I was comforted. I had much less worry knowing the staff was there doing the best with the COVID-19 pandemic. I feel like the staff listens to concerns and address them. I see the care, dedication, love and thoughtfulness they give to the residents and the families of the residents. Sadly, like many, I never saw this chapter in my mother’s nor my life and had not planned nor knew how to come to terms with it. Both A Place For Mom and Brookdale have been an answer for my searches.

Excellent Dementia Care

They're a dementia only community, with no assisted living, so the staff is very trained and focused on dealing with those types of people. The staff have been really nice. Activities are just now starting back up after Covid. It's expensive, but worth it for a loved one with dementia.

Questionable Billing And Care Practices

My loved one has been there since summer, and every month the rent is going up. My loved one isn't wanting to be there, and the staff isn't helping with keeping my loved one calm. We are looking at moving my loved one out of the community once it is safe to do so.

Brookdale Review Huge Disappointment

My Husband was at brookdale Wilmington for only 3 and 1/2 days. In that time he had 4 falls in the bathroom and a stroke and no one noticed. His home care aide and her husband visited him on the 4th day and found him semi-concious on a sofa in the common area and no staff in sight. It took both of them to help get him to his room. Later I received a call from the RN to say that my husband had said that he fell and hit his head but that she could not find the head injury but would call and ambulance anyway. An MRI taken at hospital confirmed that he had had a stroke. I looked at Brookdale because they advertised as an alszhimers/dementia care only facility. So I believed they would be more attuned to my husbands needs than a regular assissted living facility. Their care standard was no better but considerably more expensive.

Activity level needs help

My father has been in 3 different assisted living and memory care facilities over the past 3 1/2 years. I find that all have been good as far as patient care and caring staff. However I am always disappointed at the one on one that he receives in the area of activity participation and interaction.. Brookdale is no different. They outline a fantastic program as far as activity and social interaction but unless your loved one is able to participate they seem to be left behind to sit in front of a television and sleep because they need more time and attention that the activity director can give. I feel Brookdale should have another activity helper ,at least, so that more attention can be given given to those that need encouraged to participate. This stimulation is extremely important in the case of Alzheimer care when the resident may say no to participation or not realize what is going on. I find my father will get involved and seems to enjoy group activities if encouraged to participate.
