My ex-husband stayed here for 3 months...though he was a dementia patient, they accepted him and said he would do well. He loves to walk, and they said that was possibly and issue. Suddenly, out of nowhere, we were told he had to leave immediately because he went near the pond (on their property) and it had an alligator...what in the hell is an alligator doing on their property. We had NO communication from them letting us know of any danger. They didn't care for him, though on several occasions I asked the staff to help him bath and put on clean clothes. NOTHING!

I had my mother there, unfortunately I needed to have her somewhere and I should’ve known from the smell of urine from walking in the place. I found her sitting at the Dining room table soaked in urine feces on her clothes no glasses bare feet with food smeared all over the table 2 hours after dinner sitting there alone with the look on her face like what somebody please help me. She is 86 with dementia. I took her that night straight to the [removed] and then home with me. Was told that everyone was sick but nobody was treated, my mother had untreated bronchitis. Don’t, please don’t put your left one there.

I toured Hanover House, and I was not very impressed. I felt that it had no homey feeling at all, and I cried when we walked through the memory care unit. There were just lots of people sitting in the hallways doing nothing. It was heartbreaking, and I knew that I did not want my mother there.

This place is not what I want for Mom. It is, however, nice. The staff was helpful and answered all of my questions. The nursing staff only consists of a CNA and Med Tech and there are 30 Residents. I think Mom might do better with a little more one-on-one care. FYI, They did not seem to be expecting me, but recovered well and the tour went smoothly! Thanks for recommending New Hanover House. The community is really nice and clean. The staff is outstanding. The food does need improvement if a few areas. They offer a lot of nice activities for her to enjoy. They take their time in helping you feel welcome. We would welcome families to this community for good care and a nice family environment.

A Place for Mom has scored New Hanover House 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
