This what [name removed] told me. One of the aides yelled at him alot. Then one of the aides when bringing him back from a meal would only push him into the doorway and he had to make his way into the apt on his own in his wheelchair. I don't believe asst living was the best decision for [name removed] as he declined about 50% in the month he was there.

Overall, I find the staff, very considerate and friendly. The medical staff and caregivers are very good and considerate, the activities Director is absolutely amazing, the facility is very clean and the staff make it so on a regular basis. The kitchen staff works very hard, and it shows in the quality of food. Costs same reasonable.

The activities have an NA because our loved one doesn't go to any of them. They 100% need more staffing. They are a good place for care. So far I don't have complaints. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families

Most staff seem to really care about their residents and caregivers patient and welcoming. Other residents also friendly and caring to my Mom who has dementia. Staff all know me by name. I have trust in nursing staff who are well aware of my mom's needs and call my attention to any medical concerns.

Comment as to why I gave them bad ratings- I believe they said they could take care of my aunt when she was actually beyond their capabilities. They charged her a [fee removed] community fee which they originally said it was a security deposit and when I asked for it back they said " oh no that was a non-refundable community fee " . On top of the expensive stay. She was in the hospital for about half of her 3 months stay there which they said I still had to pay the full amount. [name removed] did like the food and activities while she was there. But I feel like they ripped us off for several thousand dollars at least. I feel like there needs to be some government regulation to keep them from just taking money from the elderly. I would not recommend Brookdale at all. They get a 1 for honesty!

If I could give the activities more than a 5, I would. The activity offerings are fabulous! The activities and the family atmosphere are the best. They offered the full range of services possible at their licensing level. My dad has an ostomy bag, and not all places would help with that. Also, again...the family feeling connected with all the activities. For example, whenever possible, memory care would come to the assisted living side for music programs and social events. The commitment to truly engaging residents at all levels was really obvious. Also, they have at least one nurse IN THE BUILDING 24/7.

Minor hiccups in communication. The overall cleanliness of the community is really nice. Everyone has been great. The care services get a 3 out of 5 only because they could use about 100 more staff. When it comes to the meals and dining, dad has no complaint. For the activities, we couldn't say. Dad is too sick to attend. They seem to have a lot of good stuff planned. It's not bad for what we get and they offer a lot of services

I would rank all categories as 5. And if I could give an even higher score to the activities available, I would! The activity directors do an AMAZING job of providing a wealth of activities for everyone. We would highly recommend Brookdale Urbana to other families based on the experience we have had so far.

I’m [name removed] (POA) for my Mother, [name removed]. I, with my family’s blessings, made the decision to move my Mother to Brookdale from another care facility. The difference has been remarkable. Mom has advanced dementia and has increasingly been a difficult patient to handle. Brookdale has performed exceptionally well. One of the great improvements that we looked for was staff turnover. At Brookdale it has been minimal. That speaks volumes. Consistency and a stable atmosphere are paramount to us. Brookdale’s approach is in tune with the disease and understands it. Cleanliness is top notch. Keeping us aware of Mom’s issues and how they are being handled has been a breath of fresh air. Until you have seen your loved one neglected and under unnecessary mistreatment you can’t truly appreciate how outstanding Brookdale is. We have been there. I could go on and on but Will stop here and simply say Brookdale is professional top to bottom. We can sleep at night knowing she is in good hands.

I would highly recommend Brookdale for anyone seeking Memory Care for a loved one. My family's experience was probably a bit unique because my Dad was not there very long. His health declined unexpectedly and rapidly shortly after he moved in. However, the staff was wonderful. They were very proactive about making my Dad feel welcome and coming up with activities that he might enjoy. They genuinely seemed to care about how he was doing and about him as a person. Then, when it became apparent that his health was declining faster than anyone had expected, the nurses helped our family to navigate the difficult process of helping him at the end of his life. We felt their love and caring for my Dad and for us and it gave us peace of mind even as we were all grieving. I really can't fully express how much having them on our team helped my family.

My first respite stay was great; however, the recent second respite stay, while I recovered from surgery, was even better. Programs and activities were wonderful. The fitness classes were accessible to all residents, regardless of condition. as well as activities with memory care. Food was well prepared and nicely served. Admins were great to work with and residents, as usual, were a joy to meet.

The staff are good; however, they are constantly rotating. The food is horrible, and I can't recommend the community. They have gone through at least 4 cooks in the last 4 months. The staff communication has been getting better; however, there are times that I can't find a manager to discuss very specific questions. The community overall is very transitional with staff and residents.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Urbana 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
