Brookdale Sylvan Ranch

Wish they would do pet therapy and it is very expensive. However, this my perspective. They have been very kind and caring. As with everything it depends on the day and the staff. I have a hard time giving 5's because it's my loved one and it would be hard to meet my overall demands.

Most of the help staff were nice people but the nurse and other specialized staff were rude and unhelpful and did not listen. They just wanted to talk and justify their actions and inaction. I would not recommend them. I also get the feeling this is an industry standard so, I probably wouldn't recommend any of them.

Get a hard copy of your loved one’s care plan—review & approve it BEFORE you make a payment. There may be discrepancies in the care your loved one needs & the care they are able to give them at a certain price. We were under quoted in price & then told we needed to pay more for the care we already told them was needed. For ex.—there is a difference between only “reminders” to use the restroom versus being escorted into the bathroom at set times with verbal & physical prompting & help. Another ex.—there is a difference between verbal encouragement to eat & physical help with eating. Also know that they will NOT make your loved one eat. Get a dr.’s order for Ensure. My mom lost 5 lbs the first two weeks—DESPITE our letting them know she needed physical help to feed her because she is resistant to eating due to delusions. Check your invoices—we were overcharged. Push & push & push until your loved one gets what they need! Don’t pIay nice! Be firm. It took over month to settle in.

Nurse was rude, defense, non responsive, was not interested in family needs: had a defensive response to all inquiries. The manager was not terribly effective and deferred to Nurse for almost everything. The rest of the staff and the receptionist were almost all wonderful.

Our Aunt has been at Brookdale for 4 years and she is always happy when we visit. The monthly planned events for family members are always a FUN time together! We feel she is in a safe and thriving environment for her condition.

Mom has dementia, but she is physically strong, walks a lot and doesn’t like to be penned in. Brookdale Sylvan Ranch was the PERFECT place for her. After struggling with other places it has been truly a blessing to have stable, friendly, caring, and outgoing staff - actively engaged in Mom’s well being. Unlike other places - they know her likes, her favorite color, her medical needs, and they keep me informed. It has been heart breaking to watch her decline, but wow - at BD Sylvan Ranch I know she is getting the care and attention she needs. It is truly a blessing and I feel confident in their care. They do well for certain kinds of residents. They have experience with dealing with different people. They need to better understand the special needs of certain residents. They could do better with communication with family members.

I tour the community and was very impressed by the team here. They brought up answers to questions i didn't know i had. While i am still visiting other communities, Brookdale Citrus Heights has made the cut and I will be bringing my mom in so that we can make a decision for the care for my father.

The staff did a very good job on our tour knowing that we were just looking into a short respite stay for physical therapy for my dad. They took their time and answered our question. I just felt that it was too large and had more of a clinical feeling than what I wanted for my dad.

We toured this community for my father care. We liked the staff who were caring. We wanted a community that had a nurse on staff in case my father needed care. The community is clean and maintained. They offer a nice menu of meals that are helpful for the residents. The activities are nice for the residents who want to participate. We would recommend that other families take a tour to see if this is what they are looking for.
