Meals/dining has been 5, but our chef just took anew job so who knows. Activities have been great. Again our director just left and we don't know what the new person has in store. The property was well maintained outside and gave a good impression. The interior was clean but the furniture was old and well worn. The residents were promised an interior remodel within a few months with new furniture and carpeting. The remodel never happened and I was told that promise had been made for a couple of years. The grounds have not been maintained at all since last fall. They let the lawns go without water until July and then hired a company to mow only. They finally fixed the irrigation and started to water the lawns in late July. It's embarrassing to have friends come here. Everything is shabby.... Read more

Response from Brookdale Sparks
June 14, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care and we will share your feedback with our management team.
Re facility: renovations are almost underway, with carpeting and wall paint/covering first. I believe all furniture in shared areas is to be replaced, as it is, though pleasant, quite old. The staff here are essentially wonderful. Any reasonable resident should, in my opinion, feel cared about and paid attention to. This applies to management, dining room servers, receptionists (24/7), maintenance, housekeepers, and the staff member who plans and organizes our activities does a great job. The facility provides transportation to medical appointments 2 mornings a week. There is also transportation to varied shopping and to weekly lunches at assorted restaurants. The chef is excellent.

1.Overall experience: A) The staff is wonderful. And I have made several friends here. My recovery from surgery was easy here. 2.Cleanliness of the facility: Cleanliness in the apartments depends on the house keeper assigned to your room. I did not have housekeeping until my sixth week here. The public areas are kept clean, but they tend to fo a deep clean when they know that corporate is coming. Also, the decor is way outdated, and this facility is still not on the list for remodeling. One thing that is needed is to clean up the loose asphalt gravel on the driveway in front. The gravel gets caught in my shoes and drops out onto the carpet in my room. Its painful when stepped on. 3.Friendliness The staff and residents are pleasant with only a few grumps included. I have made several new friends. 4.Quality of care I appreciated the stay in room order last March when several residents went out for lunch and 15 residents and staff tested posiive. Recently a few residents tested positive and they were the only ones that were required to stay in their rooms. I appreciated being able to receive my autumnal vaccines here at the facility last October. 5.Food It is apparent that the budget for the dinning room has been cut this year, and the meal planning comes up with some strange combinations. All meats are overcooked and tough. 6. Activities There are activities scheduled weekly. Being an introvert, I don't participate often. I do enjoy the holiday events though. 7.Value for the money I was shocked when I saw my rent increase for 2024. The rate was 10.1 % more than I can afford with my finances. I will be moving out next month.
We moved my grandmother into Brookdale after she lost her husband of more than 60 years. It was a very difficult time for the whole family but Brookdale and its staff have put a smile on everyone's face! My grandma loves her options there and it makes all of us feel good that she has a space where she can be happy! We are very grateful to Brookdale for taking such good care of our precious matriarch.

My Mother moved into Brookdale independent living in Sparks Nevada after my Dad passed away. It has been a blessing. Not only for her but for the family too. She loves it there! There are activities every day that she can participate in and it keeps her busy all day if she wants It is a true family there at the facility. The residents and staff check up on each other all the time. I couldn’t have asked for more!!

The staff is always happy and friendly. The common areas are well designed and provide for many activity options. The food is restaurant quality and is served by attentive staff. Just a great overall place for those who need assistance without feeling like they are in a typical elder care home.

The Brookdale Sparks building is due for some renovations the first of the year - that will include new paint, carpeting and communal areas with furniture. Based on the experience I have had so far, I would definitely recommend this community to other families.

The staff are very welcoming at Brookdale Sparks. When there is an issue, they are there pretty quick. My mom is not happy though with when she falls they call an ambulance. Also there don't seem to be very many activities. Also, she is not to happy with the meals. There are not a lot of options and the meals are small and they serve fish of some kind almost every night and she and a bunch of the residents have complained too much fish.

The staff is ever present. What I mean is that, when on duty and sometimes after their shift has ended, the staff members walk through common areas to chat with the residents. They smile and call me by name and ask if I want or need anything. They remember people and inquire about life events. "How was the wedding you attended on Saturday? Did you enjoy the art class? Don't forget Happy Hour tomorrow.", etc. We have many opportunities to speak or minds, our wants and needs. Once a month we have "Coffee with [name removed]" the Director. Twice a month there is an open meeting with the head Chef to discuss the menu and quality of food. Work orders are created to attend to repairs and maintenance. Housekeeping occurs once a week in each apartment. Here at Brookdale Sparks, we are an interactive community. In my experience, it is common to be in common areas and hear someone call my name, just to say hi or ask a question. I am only alone when I choose to be and I have not experienced a single lonely moment. It is not a perfect place, however on the rare occasion when I need to express a disappointment, I am heard with a caring ear. If something can be done, it is done. If something cannot be done it is respectfully explained why and I am presented with alternatives. I would recommend this facility to others.

I moved into Brookdale, I had not too many expectations. What I found was a whole, caring, loving community of staff and residents who care about each other. People help each other, care about is [name removed], and like each other! If you’re looking for a place to retire, I highly recommend Brookdale.

Overall, most of the residents are friendly. And the staff is caring. The dining service is uneven for dinner meals on the weekends, which can be a waste of our money since it is covered by our rent.

Brookdale Sparks is wonderful. I will have been living here 12 weeks this coming Saturday. Staff members are very responsive and helpful. You feel they genuinely care about you, and I believe they do. Physical facility is well laid out, comfortable, and well maintained. Activities and special events are many, varied and well-planned, with consideration for residents' interests. Food is good, considering variety of resident diners' wants and needs, and chef meets weekly with residents to get input and suggestions.

We chose Brookdale Sparks mainly due to the locaiton, the friendliness of the staff members, and the apartment sizes are great. The people working there is the most important thing to me and they have all been very kind and caring. I know that he is in a safe environment. The other residents here have all been very friendly and seem to be happy. Especially the women, they will also check in on him and they just really seem to look out for each other. It has a good overall community feel. The biggest thing he needs and wants would be rides to places he wants to go when he wants to go, they do have a driver who takes them on scheduled activities but he has to call for cabs when he wants to go places. I don't know if that is realistic to suggest that, but I think it would make him happier. Sometimes the driver will take him but it isn't something he can count on.

They have a lot of activites. We picked this community because, of the location and price. My advice to other families, is to look at what you get, for the money that you are spending.

The dining services to us seems to be very elegant, but occasionally our loved one does complain about the meals. The activities they have for the residents seem to be quite adequate and we do think the value for the money is very good. Based on our experience so far with the Brookdale Sparks community we would recommend them to other families

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Sparks 9.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
