I would give 5 to everything. If I could give a higher score for overall experience, I would. All of the staff I have worked with have gone out of their way to be helpful and show a warmth to the residents that is genuine. They consistently go the extra mile and consider it just part of their responsibilities. They treat the residents as individuals... Read more
At Brookdale Roanoke, residents can look forward to personalized memory care services and activities, as well as daily assistance from dementia-trained caregivers.
Here, Brookdale’s trained team members utilize two memory care programs — the Clare Bridge and Solace programs. The Clare Bridge program is an exclusive brand of dementia care. It was established more than 30 years ago and continually evolves as new research comes to light. The Clare Bridge program provides residents with six structured activities each day, including brain-stimulating games and physical activities like dancing, to promote the use of current skills. The Solace program, on the other hand, provides support to residents in the late stages of dementia. It offers assistance with grooming and provides opportunities to engage in sensory activities involving things like aromatherapy and music.
Another top priority at Brookdale Roanoke is safety, and staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to be alerted to an emergency. Plus, the community features an emergency alert system and keypad entries, as well as air ionization purification technology to better protect residents from viral infections. To simplify residents’ experiences during meal time, staff is trained to address a variety of dining challenges, such...

I would say that Brookdale was wonderful and I would recommend them to be considered for taking care of their loved one. The size of the facility and the number of employees as well as the expertise of the staff involved with personal care. Location was also a valuable we considered.

Everyone at Brookdale Roanoke has been helpful and welcoming! I think that they need to have more variety of food. There seems to be the same options over and over again. Especially breakfast.

Wonderful place! I feel like it is the closest you can get to "being at home". The staff is kind, supportive and always go out of their way to provide my Aunt with support, love, encouragement and exceptional care! There is a great balance of independence and supervision. Brookdale has exceeded our expectations!

Brookdale Roanoke is a very nice facility and the staff there are top notch! The rooms are small, but they do that on purpose. Too much is confusing for the residents. The common areas are very nice. I would absolutely recommend Brookdale to other families looking for memory care.

Brookdale Roanoke is an awesome facility for Alzheimer's/dementia patients. They really understand how to deal with Alzheimer's since they are memory care exclusively. Many long time employees. The only reason I had to move Mom was cost but well worth it if you can afford. The room sizes are small, but plenty of room for twin bed, nightstand, chest and chair. All rooms are Private with a bathroom with a toilet/sink and showers are in hallway. They also have 4 sections they call cottages and they group residents by their level of care so patients who function better can be together. I've had Mom in 3 facilities, and Brookdale Roanoke is top notch.

I've talked with several of the administrators, and they are always eager to help. They call and check on me and make sure I don't need anything or have any issues. Tom Sawyer, their admissions person, as well as the nurse, Amanda, have been my main contacts. They keep me up-to-date on everything. I get emails all the time with updates, as well as letters in the mail letting me know what's happening. Overall they've been great. My loved one is making friends, and I like that there are plenty of areas for the residents to walk around the facility securely, indoors and outdoors. At other memory care places that we toured, we didn't find there was as much opportunity for unsupervised walking.

They take care of family members or caregivers, like myself, just as much as they take care of the residents. So, I think that's a big deal. I would describe the staff as very communicative, open, and friendly. I see them walking around talking to the residents, it's good! I do feel my loved one is safe there and I feel she's treated with dignity. They totally adore her and they cater to her. If she wants to sleep in, they will warm up her breakfast and they'll bring it to her later. She's spoiled! They offer a bunch of activities too. It's a big deal that I can pick up the phone or text, and they will get back to me, especially with me being so far away in Houston. I would recommend Brookdale Roanoke to others.

They have been very responsive to everything that my mother has needed. I have been able to communicate with the director through email and phone calls and he is always responsive. Nurses are alert and I am able to discuss things with them as well. It has been a good choice because it is such a small facility and is in a residential area. She is able to get outside to walk on a terrace area with trees and a gazebo, the grounds are beautiful. That is very important for her and what she needs. My mother has settled in well and I think that is due to the attentiveness of the staff members.

The staff from top to bottom have been very kind and supportive. Communication between the staff and our family is very good. they keep us well informed and up to date. They have started in-person visits also. They have been very helpful with our long-term care insurance. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

The staff members were very friendly, and wonderful to us we have no bad things to say about the community. As far as we could tell it was the perfect setting for her, we could see the outdoors over face time, and the activities they would have prior to the pandemic. However our loved did say the food was bad, and the were going through a change in management so things here and there were a little confusing and disorganized like the billing and medication distribution.

When they tell you that they can not guarantee that your loved one will not fall, it means that your loved one will definitely fall, likely multiple times. This is not a skilled nursing facility so fall alarms are not allowed on beds or wheelchairs. The majority of the staff are nothing more than caregivers, not nurses, not CNA's. While some of the staff are good, caring people, there is not enough of them to care for the patients properly. The number of staff on duty meets the state MINIMUM requirement only. When you are told that a nurse is always on call, that means that a nurse is on site during the day, weekdays only, can be called for advice by staff, and will only come in nights and weekends if absolutely necessary. If Brookdale handles medications, the prices are greatly inflated. The cost you are initially quoted for care will likely increase rapidly by thousands of dollars. It seems to be all about money and not about quality care. Do not put your loved one in this facility unless you do not care about them and have unlimited funds!

We have found Brookdale Roanoke to be an adequate facility. We have often had to ask/remind for some care to be followed through on. It seems that the staff could take more initiative in seeking care for podiatry care, personal hygiene, etc. (i.e. We often find Dad in the same clothing from one day to the next.). Housekeeping seems lacking occasionally as well. Otherwise we were told we could admit Dad to the Roanoke facility & soon move him to Salem which has NOT happened after 3.5 months. This is disappointing. All in all, The staff is friendly & helpful. We would rate them higher than the facility in general. Dad receives good general care but we feel the value for the price could be better. We wouldn’t recommend to others.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Roanoke 9.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
