My dad passed away [date removed]. He was there at Brookdale a total of 6 months. Those 6 months gave him a great quality of life in large part to the kind efforts of Brookdale's staff. They checked on him often. They made his health and comfort a priority. The staff was also kind and caring to me visiting my father. I moved my mom from Brookdale Winston-Salem March a year ago… She was only there for five months. The place was absolutely fine, the staff were friendly and very competent. The administration was easy to work with. I would recommend them.

When my parents decided to move into assisted living we looked at three places. When we walked into Brookdale Reynolda we knew we had found Mom and Dad’s new home. You walk right into the entry hall which opens up to the dining room and it smelled wonderful. The rooms were clean and freshly painted. The staff were all so welcoming and were sincerely interested in our situation. The care has been phenomenal from the cleaners all the way up to the CNAs and nurses doctors, NPs and PAs. Mom enjoys the food and is always presented a balanced meal. The activity director does an excellent job keeping activities for the residents usually having a morning and afternoon activity each day. The staff coordinates care for each resident and does a great job implementing care. The director told me she loves all her residents and tries to “lay eyes” on each one each day. We offered for Mom to come home with us but she says Brookdale Reynolda is her home now and she wants to stay there.

I'd say that I chose Brookdale because it is a smaller facility where the staff know the names of the folks living there. I've learned that being smaller has its drawbacks when staffing is short. But overall, it's a good facility. Like any ALF, you have to advocate on behalf of your family member. I do have faith in the Nursing Director and other leaders at Brookdale - they want the best for the people living there.

I would definitely recommend Brookdale Reynolda Road. I like the size of it and how they encourage the residents to engage in activities. They take great care of my father-in-law. They have activities such as; Bingo, they had a chili cook off with the residents judging, adult coloring, movies, and etc.

We chose Brookdale Reynolda Road for many reasons. They were able to accept her quickly for respite and responded right away, and also we wanted to keep her in a familiar area and this is where she has always been. It has only been a couple of months but based on our experience so far I would recommend the facility.

Do your research. My mother died within two weeks of entering this facility. I believe that neglect, false and misleading advertising, and inexperienced staff, all contributed to her demise. A number of times within those two weeks, we requested some hygiene care that they never carried out. For example, we asked at least three or four times that they groom her hair and nails, and a family member who lives in the area observed that those things were not done in the time my mother was at Brookdale. Also, the family wasn't contacted about her death. It was just by a fluke that I found out. I was trying to call and speak with my mother, but she wasn't answering the phone. So I ended up speaking with one of their techs (I'm not sure of the qualifications of the individual), who told me my mother was non-responsive. I asked that they wake her up, because it was afternoon and I figured she was napping. And the response I got was, "She's not responding." So I hung up with them, figured they didn't know what they were doing, and called for the manager on duty, who happened to be at home. The next thing I knew, the EMTs had responded. Brookdale let me know they had called 911. But then they didn't tell me anything after the fact. There was no one I felt was qualified to give me information. So I was left to find out who the EMTs were, what they found out, and an overall status. And I got absolutely no help from Brookdale on any level. When I was searching for a place before moving my mother in, this facility advertised that they had a doctor on staff, and that they had nurses on staff at all times. And there was no such thing. The doctors they had were not dedicated to the facility. They were pay as you go doctors. And to get a certificate of death and cause of death from a contract doctor that didn't know anything about my loved one was not appropriate. So I very quickly went to her regular physician. Understand that there was nothing physically wrong with my mother. She had a pace maker and took some blood pressure medicine. For someone of that age, that's pretty good. She had no overall health concerns. Her cardiologist signed the death certificate as natural causes. Brookdale also promised a couple of times that they were going to hook up a Facetime visit, which they never did. I believe that isolation and lack of activities were contributing factors to her death, and I would roll that up under neglect. I wouldn't expect regular protocol during a pandemic - I would expect it to be modified, especially with vulnerable seniors. But they weren't doing anything to prevent isolation. They did not live up to their promises of keeping her active like they said they would. They also did not keep their promises in regards to her care, including hygiene. They certainly looked like a value buy for what they advertised they provided. But it turns out what they advertised is not what they provided. And to top it all off, the only communication I've had from them after my mother's death was a final bill.

The staff are super attentive and caring. I absolutely will recommend Reynolda to any of my friends who have a parent in need of their services. They have everything my mother needs and their food is to die for. [name removed] brought me out a sample to try and it was delicious.

There are some staff members that are very good but some are completely unresponsive and poorly trained. The food is horrendous. A meal may consist of a runny plain egg salad sandwich and a couple of cookies. The residents are offered very little in the way of physical or mental activity. The mission of the staff is to charge for as much as possible for every little additional task. We are often charged in error for services such as dressing and showers that were not rendered. Buyer Beware!

Some of the staff is good and some is not so great. We have had a hard time with communication. It has been really hard with the quarantine because my mom has memory loss and we can’t tell what is going on without being able to visit. The coordinator is trying hard to help with communication with the families during the quarantine. They have done a good job addressing the issues that we have brought to them.

Brookdale Reynolda may work for you if your mom or dad is compliant... we moved our parent to another place after enduring weeks at a time with no bathing. Older people often resist bathing, but a caring staff should insist and assist, not shrug and say okay. This adult care home is fairly expensive with added on charges for each area of assistance, over the base charge. Everyone seemed friendly enough, and the facility is clean and updated. If your mom or dad requires little personal assistance, it may be a good fit for you.

I also toured Brookdale Reynolda Road, and it was a nice facility as well. It was clean and everyone there was friendly. The tour guide that took me around was friendly and answered any questions throughout. It was a good experience, but it was not the best fit for my mother.

Of the facilities that we visited, this was by far the cleanest and most welcoming of all. Staff was pleasant, seemed to enjoy their work. Residents we spoke with (in private) were very happy with everything.
