I would say there is a high staff turnover but I still feel it is the best fit for my husband. I like that he has a private bedroom with a window, personal climate control, and bathroom with toilet and sink. They also have a lovely and well maintained outdoor space surrounding the facility.

Not very impressed with room layout of morning star-Brookdale had a look of neglect and strong urine odor throughout. The tour was fine and the director was nice it was more institutional looking to me and for the price..it was not less expensive
Response from Brookdale Reno
January 30, 2023Thank you for taking the time to visit and provide feedback. We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents. Your feedback has been shared with our management team for review.
Prior to coming to Brookdale Reno, my husband was at a different facility, which we were very unhappy with. Though Brookdale was expensive, as they all are, I feel like with the more expensive places, you get more for your money. When we got to Brookdale, they suggested hospice, which was very helpful. For other families with a loved one with dementia-related behavioral problems, I highly suggest trying hospice before trying behavioral health hospitalization - which the previous facility recommended to us, much to my husband's detriment. We had such a different experience with Brookdale. It was a much homier environment. Everybody there was very friendly and much better trained than at the previous facility. They were concerned about his wellbeing and tried their hardest with him. I wish we had tried them in the first place.

The meals and dining service has been above and beyond all the previous communities our loved one has been out - which is has been very helpful. The staff members are very communicative and constantly give us updates regarding our loved one which we really appreciate. Overall we have been very happy and based on our experience we would absolutely recommend this community to other families

I like Brookdale Reno a lot. They do very nice job there. The staff are very kind and creative. I like that they have animals there - dogs and cats for the residents to interact with. And they bring in live entertainment at times. The facility is nice with smaller sections in each wing and then a general common area for everybody in the middle. And the cost seems comparable to other places.

The staff are very warm and welcoming to new residents. You can tell that they truly do care and it is not just a job for them. The rooms are private and they are pretty decent size considering they are wheel chair accessible. It has been a pretty good experience for us and we would recommend Brookdale Reno.

The communication with the staff team has been really good so far.
This community did great and did a really good job with my loved one. I did not get to know a lot of the staff but the ones that I did interact with were great with my loved one. I told a friend who is in need and they plan to look into this community. They are very caring and wanted my love one to be okay, I know that they did their best to help my loved one.

We have had a very good experience with Brookdale Reno, everything has been great.
I really like [name removed] our tour director. She was very informative and kind. The facility is older therefore not the new, spacial feel but because they have been around for a while they seem to know how to make it work best for Alzheimers and Dementia patients.

Our mother absolutely loved it there, and the staff members really did love her back. She was the happiest she had ever been, and had more friends then she ever did. We did sometimes have to constantly follow up with the care takers to keep giving her her over the counter medicine, but our goal was to make sure she felt like she was living her lift on a cruise ship and that is exactly how she felt.

The community and staff really were family and took good care of the residence. Both my parents were able to stay there and I loved that. You can have additional help with your loved ones also. I would recommend this community to others.

We chose Brookdale Reno because when i visited I got a good first impression. The room sizes here are very spacious. The food is served off a menu with choices the residents are able to choose from. The staff members here are also very friendly and I would recommend to others looking.

I've been visiting this community several times to see one of my love ones and I had had beautiful experiences with all the staff. Last time I went there however I experienced a terrible encounter with the activities lady [name removed]. This woman is very unprofessional, low class, and obviously has ho clue what memory care is. I don't know why she is working there when is obvious she doesn't have compassion towards the residents. She dresses like she's going to the strip club instead of work. Anyway last time I was there, I overheard her gossiping and breaking HIPPA with another staff member, they were making fun of a resident and mocking the poor lady. She was lucky it wasn't my love one or I would be furious. I also watched how she was refusing to help the residents when they were almost falling or needed a diaper change, she just told me "I'll have my staff take care of them." The staff however were busy taking care of other residents while [name removed] wasn't doing anything. I'm afraid she'll harm my love one with her incompetence. I think I need to start looking for another facility.

My mother has recently made the move into this community and so far things are going well for her. The staff have been helpful with the transition and I am comfortable with the care. The atmosphere is always bright and happy with the other residents. She has had no complaints about the meals and enjoys participating in some of the activities with the other residents. Overall it has been a great fit for my mom.

I like this community for good for my husbands care. I like knowing that the staff is caring to his needs. The environment is good for him and he likes being able to participate with the other residents. The menu is very appealing. We have recommended others to the community for excellent care and value for a loved one.

The Brookdale Reno was a very nice community but we went with the Brookdale NW because of how convenient it was. This one was all memory care and we needed one that had assisted living as well.

The people that were caring for my father at Emeritus at Reno was very good, but there were not enough people. There was one caregiver for a dozen residents. They were very much understaffed. Apart from being understaffed they were great. The workers there are just fantastic. So were the nurses. My dad passed away after a short time there, but he was loved and cared for while he was there. As far as being understaffed, they are under new management now and have new people coming in, so I believe that issue is being addressed.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
