Brookdale Overland Park

staff is constantly changing, rooms are drab and not often cleaned, especially laundrey is a problem, activities are okay, they have them. the staff is not trained to deal well with elderly patients, a cafeteria worker confronted the patient i paid for there and they put the patient in a state prison like facility that we had to retrieve him from, i was never informed about any discipline at all for the worker who was rude and should have mopped around the person instead telling an 89 yr old to move. outrageous! if you love your person don't put them here.

We loved everything about Brookdale. The nurses and staff all so kind and caring. Everything is kept beautifully and very clean. Food and activities were great. Our only complaint is that my uncle was there less than a month and they charged us excessive fees after he passed. He died without a will so it took us a couple of months to go through the legal process to gain access to his funds so we could pay his bills. While we were working on that, Brookdale was charging us [fee removed] a month as "Late" fees. I am astounded that there is no grace period for financial settlement after your loved one passes. Nothing like Milking The Dead!!

Brookdale Overland Park is a good place...no place is perfect, but I would tell others looking that they can feel good about having their loved ones there. I would recommend this facility to other families looking.

Beware the Contract: I am writing this as I am sitting in the Hospice room with my Dad. While living in Brookdale of Overland Park he fell in his room. Several things led to this happening: they wouldn’t put anti slip socks on him at night (even after we requested this be done and put up a sign, which they took down), they practically made us use one of their beds which had no side rails, they rearranged his room so he was getting out of bed a different direction, and their floors in the rooms are very slick. When he fell he broke his leg and is not going to recover from the surgery to repair it. I took a day out of being with him to move all of his things out of the room at Brookdale. I let them know in person the situation and came back to be with my Dad in his final hours. I was called by the Administration of Brookdale, (as I am sitting here watching my Dad die), and was told that I had to give a written 30 day move out notice, according to the contract.

Stay away from this skilled nursing facility!!! The food is terrible, no fresh fruit, no green vegetables no taste and no one really cares. The walls are so paper thin that you can hear your neighbor gag and throw up all hours of the day and night. If you ask for some help with equipment delivered for your use no one knows how to set it up and no one bothers finding someone to do so. Finding anyone who cares about your issues just doesn't happen at this place.

The staff at this particular Brookdale Assisted Living facility from the Executive Director, Assisted Living Director, Director of Finance, Health and Wellness Director, Health and Wellness Coordinators, PT, OT and Brookdale Home Health Director, maintenance workers to housekeepers live and breathe the culture and mission of Brookdale Senior Living. I am so grateful for the staff's commitment to the quality of care my dad is receiving. Their willingness to communicate with me gives me great peace of mind. They have met and exceeded the goals set by the Experts at Brookdale Senior Living corporate office. My dad and I are grateful that he has found a home at Brookdale Overland Park assisted living facility. This past year my dad was in and out of the hospital with eight surgeries, in five different skilled nursing facilities and one assisted living community. March 2019 was our first experience with Brookdale Overland Park skilled nursing, where we discovered a level of care that we had not yet encountered. Only two months after returning to his assisted living facility, he actually gave up and asked for hospice. Their indifference to him and their negligence of his care robbed him not only of his physical well-being but also of his will to live; an unhappy decision for us both. That’s when I put him in his wheelchair and pushed him a short distance to Brookdale Overland Park Assisted Living. The residents welcomed a new face and engaged him in conversation while we waited for [name removed]. As she was giving us the tour, one of the residents was delighted to let us see his apartment. Dad was impressed and wanted his questions answered. [name removed] answered many of our questions. When we asked about medications, she introduced us to [name removed], who explained Brookdale’s process using Point Click Care. She showed us the process of tracking the meds from dispensing to ordering and how they are stored. It keeps track of physician orders and care of the resident, demonstrating that we would never have to worry about his medications being correctly administered, overlooked, unavailable, or stolen. The Brookdale protocol eliminates all the deficiencies that were so problematic at his former facility. [Name removed] said she would have [name removed], the Director of Health and Wellness call me for the other questions I had. I was so encouraged to learn of her position as Director of Health and Wellness, rather than merely a Director of Nursing, and I knew then that Brookdale’s corporate culture was indeed different from all the other facilities I have toured. [Name removed] called as promised, and we went over all the details of Dad’s care. Then she carefully explained Brookdale's policies and procedures and ethical standards set in place at the community for the residents. [Name removed] was my advocate throughout the whole process of getting dad admitted and becoming a resident in his new home. I live out of town and am therefore unavailable to visit as often as I would like. This amazing staff communicates with me daily on my dad's needs and care. Whether it be, [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed] or [name removed], I get either a phone call, a text, or an email. They are my eyes at ground level. It is a great relief to know we are all on the same page when it comes to my dad! He's ninety-three, an amputee, and has regained his zest for life thanks to the Brookdale staff, which is the embodiment of the Brookdale mission statement and culture of excellence. As a former volunteer Ombudsman, I should know what to look for in finding a place for dad. You can research all you want, read the reviews, tour a facility, but unless the corporate mission statement and a culture of excellence is a part of each staff member's vocation, the quality of care for your loved one will be deficient. I am grateful to each of the staff members at Brookdale Overland Park. I strongly recommend you take a tour and visit with the residents and the associates of Brookdale Overland Park Assisted Living facility before you make a decision, you will be happy you did! We are! I had the pleasure or displeasure might be a better word. I have mixed emotions about this rehab facility located at 11900 Lamar where I spent 3 weeks after back surgery. It was a bittersweet stay. Let me explain. I'll start with the night shift nursing staff. Because of my pain I was taking 15 mg of oxycodene every 4 hours and a 25 mg fentanyl patch every other day. They were amazing in that my medications were given to me withing 5 minutes of the correct time they were due. Most of the time there was no reason to ring for a nurse. Pretty much the oppossite on the day shift staff. Most of the time my medication arrived 15 minutes late, however, there wwere times when it was 30 to an hour late as I repeatedly rang for the nurse. On one ocassion after ringing every 5 minutes I got my walker after 30 minutes to seek out my nurse. I found her at the medication dispersement desk. I commented to her (I'll let her be anonymouse) "I guess I'll be seeing you in a few minutes", and her commeent to me, an exact quote, "don't count on it". I would like to know the justification for making certain you don't dare get your medication a few minuttes early but it's quite all right for them to be 30 minutes to an hour late! In clossing if you don't need medications it's okay, but if you need medication you need to figure out how to only have the night staff attend to you. I have already posted one review but as I read it I remembered something very important.

LOVE Brookdale of Overland Park!! The staff is amazing. I have only seen the rehab part of the place, but that is beautiful! Their most amazing feature is their therapy gym; huge windows, lots of light, and state of the art equipment. It is a happy place and the therapists are really good at what they do. The price for assisted living is super high-thus only 4 stars- and the food is only adequate, but my overall experience with this Brookdale facility has been super positive!

We toured this community for my Aunt and Uncle. It was nice and clean. The staff was helpful with our questions.First bld was assisted living and behind that was the memory care. It just wasn't inviting or clean looking it was an older outdated building.

When I toured Brookdale Overland Park, I noticed that there were not many activities or interaction between the staff and residents. It was not what we were looking for. The place was clean and well maintained.

Mom is doing well at Brookdale. The staff are helpful and friendly. The food is great and they offer a lot of activities. The community is clean and I would say it is one of the top communities in Kansas City.

We received terrible service for my parent. Brookdale did not bathe my mother in almost 2 weeks of stay. They also lost (threw out) her hearing aid, costing almost $2500. She also fell twice and received injuries. She was worse off for staying there.

The handymen around the facility really seemed to know what they were doing and all the construction aspects seemed up to standards.

Anything that is wrong in the apartment they fix right away. The culture is that anyone that wants to sit with them is welcome. They have fun activities every single day. The staff is fun and friendly and they make this a great place.

We toured several Brookdale locations as we were looking into options in the area. They were all pretty similar. Nothing was awful, but nothing was particularly impressive either. They were all just okay.

He is happy at Brookdale Overland Park. Everything is going really well here. I really have no complaints thus far about this facility. It's nice and clean. The staff is friendly.

Brookdale Overland Park the staff was very responsive and easy to work with as far as the move went. When my parents were touring the facility we noticed the bathroom needed updating and they actually updated it by the time they moved in. The food is excellent there. It was such a struggle to get my parents there and now that they are they are so happy. They are always talking about how nice the residents are at Brookdale Overland Park. It has made their lives so much easier and mine too. The staff are just darling.

My mother in law is living at Brookdale Overland Park and they have been great. Everybody has been really friendly. They did a great job helping to get my mother in law in there. They have been very helpful, and everything they said they would do they have delivered on.
