Our first experience in this type of setting, independent living. The apartment is spacious and comfortable, quiet. The building is well decorated and comfortable with lots of seating in common areas. Courtyard is enclosed and well-maintained. The best thing about Brookdale is the location. The business office needs better organization and at the moment we would not recommend Brookdale Dogwood Creek to other families.

Management is awesome. At the caregiver stage, not so much. There is a lot of turnover. Have had multiple issues, particularly with 3rd shift. Problems are promptly addressed when brought to management attention, but I feel I should not be the watchdog. I feel for those residents needing advanced care that do not have an advocate.

I live out of state, but my sister and brother both live in Memphis and visit our mom frequently. There have been several issues that have come up, but they have now been resolved. I am pleased that my mom has gained weight and talks much clearer when I am on the phone with her.

When my Mother first moved in things were fine. Within a few months she had many items stolen. The quality of the food was awful. Served cold most of the time. The residents wouldn't eat much. The assistants were rude and talked to the residents rudely. My mother was in the memory care. I actually found her laying on her bed with no sheets or a blanket. She was freezing. I witnessed her asking for water and was turned down. I moved her immediately

Ask lots of questions. Get fine points in writing. Ask for a deal. Staff shortages are really killing the quality of service in my opinion. That may be an issue nationally as well as locally. Our dining room experience has been subpar and a disappointment since moving in. The facility is at the age where things like carpeting and painting need to be updated. The common areas especially are worn and it has been a struggle to get corporate to make these improvements. The staff is very wonderful though and I know my mom is safe and well cared for when I can't be there.

My mother was a resident at Brookdale for 10 days in [date removed]. We left because of their incompetent care. They two were understaffed. The management was unresponsive to my requests to address the situation. Although they had fancy marketing materials, the actual care they provided was horrible. The facility was nice did not smell and was well maintained. They were understaffed unprofessional and leadership was unresponsive.

My loved one was a resident at Brookdale Dogwood Creek. Our experience at this facility was not a good one. They are not the best place for Memory Care. I would not recommend this facility to family and friends.

I am overall pleased with minor disappointments. Communication has been good. Good care: yes considering how difficult Mom can be. I would recommend this community to other families.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a very nice tour experience, they staff were very friendly and it that would of been the only community choice we would of had no problem moving our loved one in
I toured Brookdale Dogwood Creek and it was a beautiful facility. The rooms were spacious, the staff seemed friendly, and the community was very clean. They had more activities than other communities. We ultimately chose another community because my mother-in-law didn't qualify for Brookdale after her assessment. The level of care she needed was too far advanced for what they had to offer.
We had a very nice tour at Brookdale Dogwood Creek, but it was very expensive. And they also had a one-time initial fee to move in that was extremely expensive.
I felt like the community was too strict. Just not what I was looking for for my loved one. I needed a more open community for my loved one.

My loved one was at another community and received better care at the previous care community. I wish they did more activities for the memory care residents. I was told by the representative in the beginning that my loved one would be able to have therapy in the pool and this hasn't happened.

Response from Brookdale Dogwood Creek
February 11, 2022We regret that we were unable to meet all of your expectations. If you would like to discuss your concerns in greater detail, we encourage you to call our Brookdale Resident and Family Connection team.
We had a great tour with Brookdale Dogwood Creek. It was in our top 3 choices for sure but ended up being a little pricier than we were looking for. It seemed like a really nice facility.
Good tour, seemed to be better equipped to care for my loved one.
The facility was very nice. However, I didn’t like a couple of things about it. 1) The different sections (independent living, assisted living, memory care) were very closed off, almost like a firewall between them due to Covid. And that made each section feel too small. 2) When they were showing us around the facility, one of the residents was very confused and stopped our tour guide to ask for help with directions. And the woman showing us around was very dismissive to the resident, which was a a red flag. She was more interested in selling us than in helping the existing residents.

Our family had an in person tour and it was not a bad tour at all it was a good experience.
This had a nursing home feel, but was a nice community.
