My mother is a difficult person in the best of times. She has recently been diagnosed as being in the middle stages of Dementia. She is becoming more difficult as the days pass. Considering that fact, I think Brookdale is doing a very good job meeting her needs.

Fortunately, my friend is social enough to make friends. That’s the best attribute of Brookdale: staff and fellow residents are kind. Food, activities, cleanliness, and room space meet our standards. They welcomed my friends’s cat and had a petting zoo at the front door the day we arrived. No, not just for us. We got lucky. It’s the right size, not too many; not too few. I like that it doesn’t have independent living. My story is that IL takes a lot of attention from assisted living or memory care and my friend needs assisted living. They welcome family and friends so ease of access for us is an added bonus.

STAY A 100 feet away from this place! They don't care about your family member and you'll never actually know what's going on because they don’t tell the truth and you’ll never know whats real and what’s made up. Terrible administration and all the good people leave eventually. Really terrible they don't fix the people who are the real problem, administration.

Response from Brookdale Desert Ridge
March 11, 2024Thank you for choosing Brookdale and taking the time to share your feedback. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and encourage you to contact our management team.
My loved one's move-in process was absolutely seamless. They made sure that we dropped him off which sounds terrible, however, during breakfast, lunch or dinner. We arranged it so that we would have him there about 30 minutes before dinner. They were also at the door to greet us when we came in. We toured the facility and his room. He was realizing what was happening, but did not seem to surprised. [Name removed] and a couple of nurses, [names removed] came and asked my loved one if he was hungry and that they were having a delicious dinner. Once they led him to dinner we let him know that we were leaving and would be back tomorrow. They took such good care of him. The facility was absolutely clean. The staff was always so accommodating to us when we came to visit, which was pretty much every day. I would try to have breakfast with my loved one quite often. And the staff, especially [names removed] always made sure I was well cared for! [Name removed] even knew that I always just had coffee with cream. Seriously, how sweet is that?!

Our experience at Brookdale Desert Ridge has been good overall but it was a little bumpy at firstWe picked this facility because of location (safe neighborhood) price, and the fact that Brookdale has a large company that can be appealed to if there are problems with the local facility. The other residents are generally friendly and the facility has good activities.

Some concerns about being able to get in touch with staff. Nicely done when it comes to the cleanliness, - sometimes the hallways have an odor that smells like diapers thought it was food but it was not -maybe the trash needs to be put out more often- was not the best presentation when our family came to visit Mom for the holiday. But they keep Mom's room very clean! Always greet at the entry - and staff in halls always great or acknowledge. Quality of care - this one is tough - when you have contact with a staff member - the level of care is really good. At first, Mom was very happy but not so much lately - she seems that food has gotten worse--not clearly defined yet - we are going to address this with a meeting we are going to set up. Overall when I was there it was OK. We looked at other places - you get what you pay for - but I still think it's too high

We have nothing negative to say. All aspects of the community are very positive. The staff is very warm and helpful! In reference to the food, my mother had not spoken about it and I have not eaten there. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to others!

We toured with Brookdale Desert Ridge and it was a nice place, but what they offered was not as much as [facility name removed].

It's been a rocky start. They're under staffed right now, and made a large billing error. It's been worked out, but overall the facility seems to be in transition right now. I would still 100% recommend based on affordability and value of what you get for it. It is a larger facility, so there are many selections for friends.

Response from Brookdale Desert Ridge
July 20, 2023Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your feedback will be shared with management.
We were not happy with Brookdale staff - so we moved our mom. Unlocked doors at night because the lock was broken- two staff members for the whole place at night and they were good but overwhelmed. Always said there would be activities but it rarely happened even after they hired someone rood over 3 weeks for her to do anything. I led exercise a couple times because the ladies came and no teacher. Nice facility but cockroaches in bathroom and closet are hard to ignore. There are always having a staff meeting-every day for hours. There is a broken lock on the front door. Not enough night staff and activity director hired and then didn't do anything for 3 weeks. Nurse was hard to get ahold of until we gave notice we were leaving. They found a good one I hope.

I toured with Brookdale Desert Ridge. The location of this facility was not great. The view looked at office buildings. There was not really any outside area to sit and enjoy. These are the main reasons we did not choose Brookdale.
We picked this community, because I visited two places. Desert Ridge is bright and cheery. I would recommend Desert Ridge. I am concerned the elevator has needed to be repaired a few times. Also, how the residents in wheelchairs would get out of the building in the case of fire.

The facility is beautifully maintained. There are no odd odors. I know that sounds weird, but some of the other facilities I toured just smelled musty. The housekeeping of my loved one's room is wonderful. He has to use depends, so they make sure they take his trash out every morning. The staff is amazing. Not only do they take excellent care of my loved one during the initial visits and drop off, they also took care of us! The food is delicious. And you can even eat with your loved one anytime you want. There are snacks during the day and so many fun activities. Even though my loved one is in Memory Care, they have some thing for them to do every day. I cannot recommend Brookdale Desert Ridge enough. I feel so fortunate that we found them.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Desert Ridge 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
