We rated the quality of care an overall 4 because she was on Hospice and kind of a special case. Housed in the main facility, needing more care than they were possibly equipped to give. There were no meals really taken, but when it comes to the activities the folks were very kind and spent a lot of time with Mom, and visiting and comforting her. Brookdale is a wonderful facility, and we only wish Mom had been able to enjoy it more.... Read more

Beautiful place. Nice and clean and bright. Wonderful people.

Things have started out really well. The staff are very sweet and nice. We've had an overall great experience so far. The only issue has been communication. Their internal communications are a little off as far as medications I've had to be on top of it to make sure they start/stop them appropriately. And they don't call me to tell me things. I have to call them. I would recommend getting the services promised in writing and staying active on medications. But other than that, it's great. The food is amazing. The people are great. There are plenty of activities and things to do. I have just had to go through an adjustment regarding the communication I thought I would be receiving and remain proactive.

Short stay disappointed

I expected this community to watch my husbands skin care during baths. His legs swelled up and I waited for them to tell me for some time and they never said anything about it. I was surprised that nothing was ever mentioned so I removed him. I just feel like if I was not watching my loved one things may have gone bad.

Upper management does is neglectful and condescending.

Although my experience there visiting a family member revealed that they have wonderful cuisine, fun activities for the residents , as well as they seemed to be pretty clean throughout the building, the med techs and upper management was very neglectful of the residents needs overall. Their requests could be heard throughout the hallways without a diligent rep once by staff who seemed to be ignoring them. The front desk’s secretary was rude and condescending when questions were asked of how the program worked and I personally observed that the care staff was not treated well and was not adequately supported by those whom were in charge. There was an activities coordinator that seemed to enjoy his job and was very loving to the residents though and it was pretty cool that pets are accepted there at the facility too.

I would recommend

We chose Brookdale AUburn because of the location, it is close to the hospital and close to family as well. They did a great job with the on-boarding process and made things easy. I think they do really good with communication with everything going on. I would recommend them to others looking.

Not great during COVID

Brookdale Auburn staff don't take COVID safety measures as seriously as we would like and are largely unresponsive to questions about their operations. We have witnessed one staff member in particular NEVER wearing a mask(???), despite multiple cases of COVID among staff and residents. It is disappointing and terrifying to say the least. This being said, we think highly of the caregivers who work directly with residents and think they are amazing. This review is for administrators and the Executive Director who feel that they can approach health and safety protocols in a lackadaisical manner, putting our loved ones at heightened risk. If you are looking for a facility for your loved one during this pandemic LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE.

DO NOT RECOMMEND

We were greeted warmly when looking for a place for my elderly parent, but what we learned the hard way is the management of this facility told us everything we wanted to hear to get us in, and stay in, but the care was terrible. Phone calls were never returned even though they were promised. Food was more cold than hot. The staff was generally pretty good, but there appears to be a theft issue either with staff or other residents. After a few bad experiences we quickly removed our elderly parent and moved to a different place where things have been MUCH better, MUCH cheaper, with wonderful communication from staff.

I felt Brookdale is a friendly and welcoming place. They are in the midst of a major face lift with new paint scheme and carpets though out common areas. It’s has very home feel to it, not overly fancy. There are many activities every day, in fact, they were having a Hawaiian luau that day. The floor plans were a little on the small side and kitchens don’t have a stove. Rent a bit high starting at $3,595 plus $2,000 initial fee. Has age in place services available. The food menu looks like there are many choices each day and always changing.

Son of past residents

This facility has drastically fallen in level of care, cleanliness, and value. Moved our parents out recently to a newer facility with the correct number of caregivers and staff. The food at Brookdale was mostly canned or frozen. The new facility provides food that is a 5 star in comparison. Cooked to order, not sitting in steam tables. Get this, the new place cost less. That is the difference between corporate owned and family owned. The family owned just cares more for the residents.

Less than desirable

I moved into Brookdale Auburn because I was in need of a home fast and I wish I would’ve looked harder for somewhere else. I haven’t been impressed with anything here. Everything you ask them to do, they charge you for. I told them before I moved in that I had specific hygiene things that I needed help with and they have not done anything that I need. I’ve been left alone more than once to get dressed myself and have been left alone in the bathroom for long amounts of time. They’re massively understaffed, 2 people for 2 wards, and the rest of the staff constantly leaves early because they’re “sick”. I haven’t lived here long, only about 4 weeks, and these are things I’m already noticing. Their food is good, the kitchen staff is great at giving out lots of different options for us. The housecleaning woman they’ve employed does a really good job at keeping everything tidy, taking out the trash regularly, and doing laundry consistently. There are a few activities like musical programs and bingo, however recently I experienced a quarrel between 2 residents that was not stopped by the staff because they were waiting on the “person in charge”. They’re constantly in a hurry and don’t seem to be attentive to the needs of the residents. There’s just no personal touch for the amount of money that’s being paid. Unless they can clean up their act, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We liked the tour from this community. We found that the staff is nice and helpful. They had a list of nice activities for all of the residents who could participate. This community is clean with a nice atmosphere. they have a good menu and a nice list of activities. We wanted a bigger community but would recommend that families tour this community for the good care of a loved one.
