They have been very accommodating to the specific & individual needs of each patient. They are very mom & pop shop-like vs a big organization with a factory-feel. They provide a very personalized experience and are very flexible. Branch Brook is not a great facility for someone who needs a lot of care. It's better for someone who needs a medium amount of care. The people that move there should have some level of mental soundness. Overall it's been a good experience.... Read more

About the facility Branch Brook Park Manor

Tucked beside the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in the nation, Branch Brook Park Manor boasts historic significance, natural beauty, and high-quality care. Newark, New Jersey, was settled in 1666 by the Puritans, giving the city a rare sense of historical character. Turn-of-the-century buildings grace the wide, tree-lined streets of the quaint Forest Hill Neighborhood where Branch Brook Park Manor sits. The home gets its name from the nearby Branch Brook Park where residents and visitors enjoy the remarkable cherry blossom trees. The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart is down the street, and its dreaming spires and glorious stained glass windows are strongly reminiscent of the best of Europe. A few of the rooms in the manor house are fortune enough to have a view of the basilica.

The facilities are housed within a Victorian mansion. Soaring ceilings, bay windows, and plush furniture make residents feel like royalty. There are 16 beds, making this a home a unique find. It has the resources and many of the amenities of a larger home with the attention to detail and authentic care that comes from a smaller facility. Even with 16 rooms, residents and families can choose the right option for...

excellent

Branch Brook Park Manor is excellent. They are very attentive. They actually got my my grandmother up walking again. I know for a fact that she wouldn't have been up walking if she would have stayed at the rehab center. The staff gives very individualized and personalized attention. I talked to her just today and asked her how things are going and she literally said that she loves it there. She is always clean when I come visit and her surrounding are clean. The other residents are clean too. I never announce when I am coming either, I just pop in. I just don't have any complaints here. I am very pleased.

Staff was nice

Satisfied with what I heard, not sure about the care they provide. I like the staff, it wasn't may people on staff, I like the proprietary and her assistance, Didn't like that was dark, they have been hiding something, I didn't like the fact that the residence that didn't go to they were just sitting there watching a TV and all looked sedated and had their heads down. Most were Alzheimer's patients.

It is located in an urban area and close to mass transportation. The house is clean and inviting. If you are looking for a place that is full with residents for your loved one to be around then this is the place to keep them socially busy. The owner and operator offers private rooms and home cooked meals. Depending on what you are looking for this may be the place for you.

Like a club, but not "clubby"!

Once my mom no longer felt at home at our house, she actually chose Branch Brook herself by following everyone at her daycare site onto their jitney bus at the end of the day. I think it reminds her of her early life in Newark, which eases her mind. Though Branch Brook is in a brownstone with stairs, she goes right up and down. Branch Brook is actually designed for dementia patients of all kinds and everyone there has training regarding the disorder as well as their therapeutic specialties. You owe it to yourself and your loved one to try & see in person how everything goes. They approach acclimating the patient to the existing group as if it's more like a club than a "facility," but they are not "clubby" by any means. It is a family business and the folks there are all caring and knowledgeable. It is also nowhere near as expensive as I thought it would be!

Very nice looking community

This was one of the options we were considering while looking into care for my Dad. This community looked very nice, and the administrator Ms Smith is very communicative and helpful. This was one of our top options, although we ended up selecting a different community.

The registered nurse lives at the facility. Her daughter is the administrator. They take care of all activities of daily living. Incontinence supplies if needed are supplied by the family. They have two aides that come in daily to help with bathing. They bathe the residents daily. They are also opening a social daycare center for therapeutic socialization with art, music and other activities. They don't call the daycare, daycare but refer to it as the "club". The benefit is that the residents have a reason for getting up and dressed to go to the "club". The staffing includes 2 aides, a cook and an activity person and two people are there at all times. There is also a cleaning person daily and the laundry is done by a separate person.
