Our family had an in person tour and the ladies who run the place are so lovely, you can tell the care they give to the residents is genuine and purposeful. However, our loved one is still pretty active and we just did not see a lot of stimulation, or engagement going on at all. We thought our loved one would be a little depressed.

Art was terrific. The facility was dark and a bit tired. Rooms were very small. It is not in a good location for me either.

Canterbury Village not only saved my mother, but me as well. After a terrible, dehumanizing experience at an unsafe, unsound non-profit facility in Somerset, my mother’s life turned around at Canterbury. The Canterbury staff is kind and compassionate, the directors and nurses are attentive to the residents’ needs and medications (with wise suggestions too) and I have watched my mother thrive there. It’s a clean, cozy, and cheery place - not institutional or bleak. Residents with dementia are given freedom and respect; there is never a sense of this being a locked facility, but a sprawling apartment complex or shared home with gardens and good meals (and a therapy dog too!) Staff turnover seems very low, so the residents and families really bond with everyone there. I just can’t overemphasize how wonderful Canterbury has been for my mom - it is a wonderful place. I am so grateful to everyone there

My Aunt has been a resident at Canterbury for over a year now and although the facility is clean, there needs to be more observant and attentive staff members. Upon visiting a few weeks ago I noticed a constanl white discharge from my Aunt's eye, indicating a possible infection. I notified one of the nursing staff and went on my way.. I returned 2 weeks later as I was on vacation, and she STILL had the discharge and said she had NOT been treated by anyone. After 2 emails and 3 phone calls, (Nurses' station voicemail box was full) I still have NOT BEEN CONTACTED by anyone from the facility to remedy this situation! Mind you, I pay over $6,300/mo for her to be there and get harassed by one particular [removed] aid to provide diapers, pads, etc.. for my Aunt. I'm one of the few relatives to frequent this facility, sadly most residents don't get visitors. My question is, if they provide supplies when she runs out, as she does...where is the money going? They can't keep a front desk receptionist for more than 6 months either.

My mother lived in two assisted living communities before we found Canterbury. The first community was very pretty, fresh flowers, piano in the lobby, a nicely landscaped area with fountain spraying water into the pond. Her apartment was the right size for her and we decorated it beautifully and she was comfortable. However, after one fall that was caused by another resident, and another fall caused by my mother's refusal to call for help, we were forced to hire a 24 hour live-in OR get out. When the cost of that help pushed the monthly expenses to nearly 10,000.00, we had to search for another place. We found one we liked, maybe not quite so elegant, but they did not require the 24 hour live-in. People there were so pleasant, it was cheerful, residents were encouraged to participate in conversation groups, music, games, and general socializing. But, over time, cost per month became an issue so we started the search all over again. Canterbury was suggested to me by [name removed]. She told me we would be doing ourselves a favor if we would see the place and consider it carefully. My sister was the first to visit and explore the accommodations, gathering rooms, and the pocket gardens which were very charming that time of year. I went the following day, early in the morning, and unannounced. That is the very best way to judge cleanliness, as we have learned. Everything was so clean and tidy. The carpets, wall paper and drapes give a country cottage feel, well decorated, bright with sunlight. Windows and French doors let out into the little gardens, one of which had BBQ equipment for outdoor cooking in the good weather. A grand piano sat in the main room used for socializing, music, movies, and a fireplace is the focal point in another area of the large space. I was so surprised to see such a pretty interior because the exterior is deceivingly simple, tidy yes, but not fancy. My mother was welcomed and every time we visited, which was at least once a week, my mother was in the middle of a group of residents who were watching an old movie or were talking as a group about a particular topic. Not that my mother participated always, but it was good to see her not sitting alone. I would suggest to a family who are looking for "A Place for Mom" do, please, take a few minutes to see Canterbury. It may be just the place you were hoping to find and, maybe, at a cost that will surprise you. We learned that it isn't always money that matters while judging how happy your loved one will be nor how well she is truly cared for by dedicated people.

We met on a day when [name removed] was not there, but the Health Director showed us around and answered almost all of our questions. We were shown several sizes of rooms that might be available to us. It is well kept and clean. We liked that it was on one floor and the atmosphere was more homey. Lots of windows and sunshine. It is definitely an option for us.

I was so impressed by CB from my first visit. The administrator was and still is very helpful. He helped me get through a very difficult time with my aunt. The staff welcomed her with open arms, too. It is such a relief to visit and see her safe, clean, and happy.

My husband went on the tour to see what is was like at this community. He told me he didn't care for it as much. It did not appear to be as bright and lively. WE had hoped for a different atmosphere.

We had a good tour of this facility. It is a nice and well maintained community from what we saw. The staff we met was friendly and informative. Our questions were answered, and it was a good experience. They were not able to provide the type of care my mother needed. It is a nice community for the right person.

I was very disattisfied with the care that Canterbury Village offered my loved one. There were multiple times when help was not made available and my loved one fell and hurt themselves. They need a more proactive staff that is available to assist the residents. Mistakes happen but multiple falls in a short amount of time are unacceptable.

I have to say that my father is the crankiest, most difficult, unpleasant man you could possibly imagine and they have dealt with him and have done an exceptional job and go out of their way to accommodate the family and they are wonderful. And he is now relatively happy there. He has made friends and participates in activities. The care and treatment he is receiving is exceptional.

My sister has been here for about a month and a half. We are very pleased. The facility is more home-like rather than institutional. That's definitely a plus. I felt it was definitely the best for Wilma, my sister, that I could find. She's not stuck in a little area. She has freedom and that's good. My overall rating of this property is 5 stars. We are just very pleased with the Canterbury Village.

They’re fabulous. They’re very reasonable and one of the main reasons is that they include medication management in the fee. The activities are okay – but they don’t have too much going on for a couple of days, but that might be on purpose for rest. I really didn’t have any negative experiences. The best part of it – the part that they really sold me – is the medication management being included in the cost.

My mother is on medicaid but before that, as compared to others, it was a better value. The acivities are hard because there are so many different types of people there. The woman there does a great job of working with them. Right now I think it's been a godsend, having my mother there. The staff is great and they just underwent a whole new rennovation. This place is really nice!
