My mother was only here for 30 days and I’m grateful that she died in a peaceful loving environment. The staff are just wonderful. If you have the opportunity to have your loved one here take it! I knew the moment I walked in it was perfect. Gorgeous grounds, beautiful rooms and they really care and are thorough. Highly recommended .... Read more

The community is a clean facility. I've seen better facilities for a better price. Staff seemed ok but not extremely caring. RN's were great. Quality Care in Howell is a beautiful facility. I haven't had any encounters with the staff so I can't comment on the staff. The price is great.

The facility is smaller which I thought meant more hands on care but there are some MA's that are just putting in their time and don't seem to be very caring. The RN's are exceptional. The MA's aren't completely supervised and if there isn't a family member there most of the time, you have no idea what's being done to your loved one. The facility is very nice.

I was concerned about the aides being able to administer Morphine during my client's last few days. I had to ask for the prn dose as she was agitated and needed an additional dose. I wasn't with her every minute so I'm unsure how comfortable she was in the end. Of course I was concerned about the staffing, even though there were only four residents in the facility at that time. I felt that one aide trying to feed, assist all of the residents as well as answer the phone etc. was difficult.

They are not to be trusted with your loved ones. My loved one had numerous injuries and they had lied about what had happened.

I think that regardless of where you send a family member, you still need to be involved. Don't just drop them off and leave them. It's important to know the caregivers wherever you are, and stay in constant communication. They've been good with communication here. They're very quick to respond if something comes up. I like the environment here, being in a house vs. in a big facility. And the house is very open, so there's a community feel. The staff have been really friendly. We've already recommended this community to other families.

A Place for Mom has scored Birchwood Gardens 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
