The staff was very interested in making people feel comfortable. The meals were very tasty and well balanced. Mom enjoyed them very much. She also liked being allowed to help prepare dinners. This facility has a very homey atmosphere. We were only going for a few days, so nothing much was necessary as far as communication. But the communication was good while we were planning for her stay. This was a short Respite visit, so there weren't any activities planned outside of the facility, but they had a nice program when they did go out. I would recommend this facility for a Respite stay, certainly. I'm sure it is also a great place to live as well.... Read more

My step dad lived in the one in Chelsea for a couple years then moved to Liberty rd in Ann Arbor with my mom. The owner gave her som of his moms medication to calm her down. There is only one nurse for all 5 places. The head worker is mean, she lies, and does not care about anyone else’s property but hers. We thought is was nice until my mom got to see behind the scenes. The head worker took my moms cell phone several times and locked it in a cabinet. They started giving her meds for skizaphrenia which she is not, and couldn’t understand why she was acting up. When my mom refused it one day, the head woman, who is only a care giver, not an RN, she let it dissolve in her coffee. The owner stole money from us, making us pay the fist 3 months at $6400.00; when she was only supposed pay 2 before her long term care kicked in. Then when he got the check from them he refused to pay her back. He still owes around $5000.00. We had to hire an attorney but he still owes. They finally kicked my mom out because she was going crazy with psyche meds she didn’t need. That was in the middle of [date removed]. Never got our deposit back. My step dad was still there, with way advanced dementia, but they banned my mom and I from visiting. His daughters had poa at that time. Finally my step sisters gave them a 30 day notice to move my step dad, and the refused to give back his deposit as well. DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY INTO ANYTHING WITH BIRCHWOOD IN THE NAME. Oh, and another resident threw herself on the floor from her wheelchair and attempted suicide to get out

I lived at Premier or Birchwood Manor as they call it now in Ann Arbor for 5 years. The "nurse" there is not an RN. Ask to see her license and diploma from Univ. of Mich. Her name is [Name removed]; she is a pathological liar. Don't cross her; she has a nasty temper. She is the "nurse" for two other Birchwood houses.

This is a beautiful home and the food is homemade. This home unfortunately did not have the caregivers to provide the type of care mom needed. They are not able to offer one on one care. They do not offer a lot of activities, I would recommend looking into this care home if you are more independent and do not require a lot of individual care.

The first home we placed Mom in did not work out after only 5 days. Gail was so helpful in finding another home very quickly and Mom has been there for 5 weeks now. She actually thinks she is an employee.

A Place for Mom has scored Birchwood Manor 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
