I had some trouble at first setting up the online rent pay. The director at that time (she's since moved on)was very unhelpful, and difficult to work with. Since then they have a new director: [name removed] who is lovely. She was prompt and helpful in my request to move my mom to a different ( larger room). It is very clean, but sometimes my moms room smells a little, but nothing like the other place. The problem was her loveseat, so I took off the covers and was walk to the laundry when a staff person said she'd be happy to launder them. The next morning when I came to visit, the seat covers were laundered and back on her loveseat. I think the staff is attentive and friendly and cheerful with my mom. I came into her room while a staff member was in the bathroom with my mom, (so the staff member did not know I was there), and she spoke very kindly to my mom. Sometimes Moms hair looks greasy, and needs a wash. I understand often she refuses a hair wash during her shower, so I got her some dry shampoo. My mom says the meals are good. my mom seems to be active and I like the activities I've seen as well as the staff who do them. Very kind, clear directions, inclusive of everyone. The first room mom was in was soooo tiny, and the price was over [removed] a month. The window was small. We just moved her to a larger room, which is nicer but we're paying just $[removed] shy of [price removed]. All in all we are happy we moved mom to Birchrock from her previous memory care. We like the staff here, much more and the smallness, and cleanliness compared to her previous place. We made the right move.... Read more

I would recommend Birchrock Castle to others because it's small, family-like, cozy and clean. My mom has been there for less than a month, so I'm not sure about the food, and my mom is not fussy, but I heard the food is homemade. The staff is kind. Communication with the family has been good, so far. Overall, things have been very good so far and we are happy that we made the move.

A Place for Mom has scored Birchrock Castle 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
