I honestly can't say enough positives about Belmont Village. My mom moved last June from a house she had lived in for 46 years. I never thought she would be happy living in a studio room and senior center, but she really loves it there. The staff was so accommodating from the beginning. They left if up to me whether or not to allow her to visit before the move. I was so unsure about how to make the transition, but my mom really wanted to see it first. I had only given her 4 days notice, and those were a rough 4 days. We went to visit twice before the move, so she was familiar with the place beforehand. The staff was so welcoming each time. Once she moved into her room, with all of her favorite stuff, she was very happy and has been ever since. Her large studio is very nice, with two large closets, a beautiful bathroom with a walk in shower, and a kitchenette with a sink and refrigerator. They let me stay overnight with her the first night, when other places told me that I should stay away for a couple of weeks. That may not work for everyone, but it did for us. The staff is always welcoming whenever I visit. They all know my mom and greet her by name, as well as her dog, which they actually allowed her to keep (as long as she can care for her). The room is cleaned weekly and her laundry is done as well. The food is really high quality and the waitstaff is very accommodating and friendly. I love that they "plate" the specials in the dining entry for every meal, so residents can actually see what they want to order. They are also able to order from a menu, which is usually what I do when I join her for meals. The facility is beautifully decorated inside with coastal décor, with a fireplace and grand piano in the lobby, where they often have great entertainment. Outside, there is a lovely fenced in pool, grass area, sidewalks, comfy couches and tables where my mom spends a lot of time walking her dog. The Wellness Center seems very organized, although busy around meal times, and there is good communication. I just signed mom up with SeniorDoc, so her GP actually comes to the facility. If you make a reservation, a bus will take the residents to Dr. appointments. My mom is in the "Circle of Friends" program which is for residents with memory issues. What is so great about Belmont Village, is that this group lives among the assisted living residents, so there are many opportunities for social interaction. They offer a wide variety of classes twice a day, every day. My mom goes to some of them, and especially likes the art classes. What I really appreciate, is that they meet my mom at her level, they encourage her to participate, but don't force her to do everything if she isn't up for it. I highly recommend Belmont Village Rancho Palos Verdes.... Read more

My father in law requested a bigger bed as he prone to fall, unfortunately they could not accommodate as we were there for only short term. Very clean and well maintained facility, plenty of places to Sit and everything kept so clean and accecable Staff was very courteous and friendly, ready to help for any assistance W were new to care facility, my father in law said he need to wait sometimes for assistance. But nursing staff was very responsive and reported any incidents, as my father in law is high fall risk My it is first time for our family to admit any care facility. It was little emotional and also confusion for my inlaws. Belmont village is great facility but we were not ready mentally and emotionally to opt for a care facility then. My inlaws preferred a home care option for now

My 94 year old father lived here for the last year of his life. He was taken care of, but no one went above and beyond. His hearing aids were never cleaned, I would have to continually ask for his nails to be clipped and food was left rotten in his fridge. He didn’t need memory care, just kindness. The staff turnover was noticeable and the skilled nurses were understaffed. When I saw that he had lost a lot of weight and asked for him to be weighed weekly, I had to get an order from his doctor before they would do it. When he died, I didn’t even get a call or card outside of my hired hospice. This for [removed]a month? It was sad.

They have eyes on the members at all times, they try to get members to participate in activities. They keep you informed when there are changes. From what we have seen, I do not know of anything that they could improve on. I know my FIL says his days are not spectacular but he can't tell me what would make them spectacular.

Constant rate of turnover among the staff: nursing, care givers, even the servers in the dining room. Nurses and care givers would actually quit midshift! I transferred my Mom to a different facility and many staff members had quit Belmont and were now working at The Canterbury. I just wish I had moved my Mom sooner.

Response from Belmont Village RPV
July 6, 2023Thank you for leaving this review.
If we had to do this process all over again we would not pick Belmont Village. Due to the extensive price here there is a hesitancy with a risk of losing cliental because of the resident saying no - for example we wanted out loved one to have assistance with bathing, eating and changing clothes. When the staff would come in and if our loved one did not want to do either of those things - the staff would simply say okay and leave. We then had to pay additional services for an outside companion to come and make sure our loved one was receiving the proper care.

They are understaffed. The food is very poor and the service of food is very poor. It all depend on the kind of service that you need. If you have a normal intellect, I would not chose this place because most everyone has some form of dementia, so it makes for poor conversation and company.

The staff at Belmont Village is very friendly. The community is more expensive than other communities in the area, however the amenities and the location make up for the price. They also offer activities on and off-site. The meals on-site were very good, however the food service was a little slow.

The community was very beautiful extremely clean well maintained we were very impressed. The staff was really kind and you could tell they cared about the residents in talking with the staff. However, as you walked around we didn't see any residents out and about doing any sort of activities or visiting with any family or friends. Being so quiet almost reminds me of being in a hospital ward during quite a time.

We are very pleased with how things have turned out with Belmont Village! It's very expensive, but the place really is top of the line. It's a beautiful facility, and the staff is friendly and professional. I've really been impressed by the variety of activities, and the sense of community the place has. Both of my parents have found something they enjoy!

My 95-yr-old aunt suffers from Alzheimer's but is mobile, using a cane. She was living in a different assisted living facility (NOT Belmont Village) and suddenly was struggling to get up out of a chair and to walk. The staff largely ignored these changes and failed to notify us (her family) of the change in her health status. It became clear that she needed to be moved to a memory care facility. We toured several in the South Bay, Pasadena, Glendora, and West Covina areas and Belmont Village in Rancho Palos Verdes was our top choice for many reasons, such as having an on-site registered nurse 24/7 just for the memory care unit. From the start, the staff were very professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and warm. The facility and amenities are beautiful, well-maintained, and spotless. The training and continuing education of the staff (from community relations to the staff assistants) is extensive and current. The quality of programming is top notch. When we expressed concerns about the cost perhaps being beyond my aunt's budget, Therese contacted us and said they would work with us to make it affordable for my aunt (and they did). My aunt moved in a month ago and thanks to the dedicated BV team, has adjusted very well. Typical of how BV goes above and beyond, my aunt moved in on a Sunday. [Removed], the nurse manager, voluntarily came in on her day off to make sure my aunt's first day at BV went well! [Removed] also texts and sends photos each week keeping us updated on my aunt's health and activities. Unlike at her former facility, she now participates in program activities, allows the staff to help her with tasks such as showering, and is receiving superior medical/nursing care. She is back to walking with a cane for short distances and is scheduled to begin physical therapy to strengthen her legs (and BV has a great gym/PT room).

My mother is settling well into this community. I know she is safe and in good hands at this community. They have a lovely staff, they are friendly and very helpful. There are plenty of activities available for the residents. I've some of the meals, and the food is good. The community looks nice, they do a good job with the cleanliness of the community. Overall they are providing her with good care. I would recommend this community, it has worked out very well for us.

A Place for Mom has scored Belmont Village RPV 6.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
