They were incredibly helpful and sweet. My mom felt at home right away. Unfortunately we did need their services for long but we would highly recommend it to anyone looking. The price is great and the facilities are wonderful.

The response time and most of the aides are very patience. Also food and activities are good. They have transportation for no extra cost. Since my mom is in a wheelchair, that's very important to me. The security is also worth mentioning as good at night. Most of the aides are very good, but at 95, an aide can't rush or be rough with my mom. One definitely is. I bought Mom six new gowns and 4 have disappeared and no one can locate them. I think the food is good for an industrial kitchen. She enjoys most of it. A couple of aides are very good about bringing her hot chocolate everyday. There are a lot of activities, but Mom never leaves her room. She's pretty much wheelchair bound now. Unfortunately, most of the time, the response time is too long. There have been times she has waited more than three hours to respond. She has resorted to calling the desk at times. I'm still looking for a house and can't bring her to my daughter's because there are 13 steps to get in and that's impossible now. This is our first experience like this. I'm not sure if I'm being too critical or just a concerned daughter. Aviva is reported to be the best facility around, so for now, I'll keep her there. The executive director is new and I'm sure she'll get a handle on things. She's very competent and friendly.

When we toured and researched Aviva, everything seemed wonderful. The Marketing/Sales Director who has since left the Property did a great job telling us about what a community should be. Unfortunately, Aviva did not live up to the presentation. With only one exception, nothing was as it seemed. That one exception, thank goodness, is the quality of healthcare. As for the other aspects...? Apartment size is small and cramped. Operationally, this community is very challenged. One of the two elevators broke down, and it took a very long time to get it fixed. Also slow to come out was the communication to the residents about it being broken. When a resident is pained walking Ang going up and down stairs, an elevator should be a priority. The food service is lacking significantly, it's not that tasty, the portions are incredibly small, and everything in the menu ends up not being available in short order. The waitstaff has issues too, with many times only one person around to serve all of the tables. My MIL says that the activities that are planned aren't that inspiring. She doesn't like playing bingo, and the concerts that are supposed to take place on site are more like practices. Also, most people don't go to the planned activities on site. Furthermore, while she met several lovely people (residents), she found that for the most part, people just walked around like zombies not really engaging. She found it very depressing. Several community managers left the employ of the community in the short 6 months that we were trying it out. Thank goodness we had that trial period so we didn't have to move my MIL there permanently. She was beside herself living there for even more than 3 months; very unhappy. I wish it had been better; we were so hopeful. I hope that management gets their act together for the friends that are still living there.

My aunt would say that it has been a positive experience, allaying her fears. My aunt especially liked the welcoming feeling by the staff and a few residents. Also, the fact that AVIVA offers various levels of care was appealing. Additionally, the architecture/structure of the building, the food and other services offered were pluses.

The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, available and accessible. The atmosphere is comfortable and peaceful. The ambassadors that help new residents acclimate are a great idea! It is more like a college dorm for seniors. The move in process was efficient. When there is a perceived hitch, Aviva is in front working out a solution even when it is a third party issue. I would recommend Aviva West Hartford to others.

The staff at Aviva West Hartford is very engaging and welcoming. The place is very clean and they do a nice job with housekeeping. Communication with the family is great. During the move in process, we had all of the support that we needed. Overall, the meals are good. Mom enjoys many of the community activities which they encourage and make newcomers feel welcome to join. I think it is always a challenge for folks to get used to community meals and entering the dining room as a newbie. Expect that, but know that they do try to welcome newcomers to join at tables of established folks. I would recommend Aviva West Hartford to families looking for a good place for seniors transitioning from independent to Community Living.

Everything has been great. Loved the sales rep there. Think communication once resident moves in could be more for the loved ones family that are involved. I also have to speak highly of the support and help from [name removed] at A Place for Mom; she is incredible and was a joy to work with.[name removed] in sales at Aviva was a joy to work with when we were researching housing options for our mother. No lie, I must have contacted sixty five places and I had gone on several tours. She did not make the experience feel contractual. Moving a loved one is not easy, and was exceptional. She answered all our questions, gave tours to my sister and me and then another tour to our brother on very short notice. She cares, and gets the emotions that go along with making such a decision and we cannot thank her enough for how easy she made the process. Our mother is so happy to be at Aviva! We are thrilled with our choice and are truly grateful for the incomparable support we received. The personalized welcome tour, pricing, security, healthy meals, community aspect, and ability scale needs for our mother as she ages in place we're reasons why we chose Aviva

My loved one is a resident at Aviva West Hartford. This facility appears to be the type of facility that would appeal to someone categorized as "Independent" and still ambulatory with resident parking spaces accessible to the front entrance, flexible dining hours with breakfast (anytime of day, is my understanding), a dedicated movie room with comfortable seating, a pool table or billiards (I don't know the difference), a pub with happy hours, and a chapel to steal away for quiet meditation/communion with God. If I lived here, I would be content.

My family and loved one have had a good experience with the community. The staff are good at keeping the community clean. Everyone seems friendly that we have dealt with. We would recommend you take in all the beautiful architecture of the building, and ask the staff to explain the history of the building.

It's a decent place. Very clean. Big, with lots of common areas. Nursing requires additional follow-up.

Aviva West is a beautiful building that was built in the early 1900s, the architecture is fantastic. The layout is very roomy and the apartment that our loved one is living in currently is just the right size for her needs. The staff are taking really good care of our loved one, and it was relatively easy to go through the orientation process and signing of all the paperwork. We had checked out some other communities in the area and this community by far was the most affordable and best option. We have recommend this community already and will continue to do so.

It is a very gracious place to live. They are not on always on top of things. They need someone close by to stay on top of them to advocate on my loved ones behalf. There is lots of stuff to do, the dining room is beautiful. It is at the top of a very steep hill. It is scary during bad weather. They have so many common spaces, it is very surprising compared to other places I have visited. The spaces are all so beautiful.

I was not overly impressed with my tour. It felt dark and gloomy and had more of an institutional feeling to it. The rooms were fine it was just the hallways that felt cold.
Great Care staff. Beautiful building and grounds. Close and convenient to many local highways; easy to access for families to visit. Well worth the investment in my mothers wellbeing.

Our family had an in person tour and at the time it was just not the proper fit for our loved one. We were looking at the memory care side, and it just seemed like the residents there were on a different level of care and our loved one would of not fit it. Also the location was just to far away.
We loved Atria Hamilton Heights! It's an older Historic building that is more to Moms' liking. Nice big one bedroom apartment. I think Mom will really like this one!

It's a beautiful community, but it wasn't the right place for our loved one. They were not very hands-on - in fact they were very hands-off and not very proactive. And she needed just a little more help than they were available to give her, especially for the price that we paid.

A Place for Mom has scored Aviva West Hartford 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
