I have seen large roaches, multiple times, and have had a problem with the laundry multiple times. I believe whites and colors, are not separated. Staff is excellent and very responsive, as is administration. Food vendor, needs to be addressed. Almost everyone complains about the food. I would like to see more live lectures versus movies, in place of lectures.... Read more

I would say it is probably one of the best assisted living communities in Manhattan. They can be inflexible with care routines. Whenever the care providers are terrific. I don't recommend for a spouse to live there, if they don't require assisted living. The food is very good. The public space can feel dark and bleak, and they are similar to apartment communities. If staying on the island of Manhattan this is probably the best place to go for assisted living.

It is difficult to communicate with the community. You have to monitor very carefully on what goes on. The food service has been late and my loved one won't get breakfast until 9 or 9:30 am. The housekeeping director was hard to deal with on laundry. Recently we haven't had any problems with the laundry service. I never receive a callback about the Executive Director. [name removed] has always been helpful and efficient. Annetta the head nurse has been great. I am able to speak to my loved one daily via phone. It is a lovely community, but it isn't perfect. I feel the level of care for the amount of money you are spending a month should be excellent.

We had a terrible experience at Atria West, however it was always kept pretty clean. The staff was very agreeably and acceptable when we moved our loved one in, but they were not able to take good care of him. He was often left alone when he needed help, which resulted in him falling three times. The nurses station would not bath him after he would soil himself unless he had a bath scheduled for that day, and if there was no bath scheduled for that day he would sit in his soiled clothes.

We chose Atria west 86 because of the location. The room sizes were good. I don't know if they ended up being the best for my husband based on the care that he needed. I would not recommend Atria west 86.

Luxury setting with extremely terrible elevator service keeping clients in close proximity and waiting times frequently exceeding ten minutes and longer during meal times. Dangerous during Covid

My uncle was a resident here. When we were involved with the admission people they promised the world. Once my uncle moved in they could care less. The social worker is a joke, no one returns calls and when they do they are useless. My uncle got bedbugs here twice ( never had an issue before he moved in). It was so bad the second time they had to move him out of his apt for 2 months then tried to bill him for a bigger apt. While he waited for them to fumigate. I would not recommend this Place to anyone who does not have family nearby who can run interference. What they charge is unbelievable and what they deliver is a joke. BTW, I am a retired social worker in another state so I understand the system.

This is a beautiful facility. The apartments are very large and modern. There are two restaurants on the facility and plenty of beautiful space to socialize. It’s like living in a five star hotel. [Name removed] was extremely informative and made us feel at home during our tour.

The care at this community has been nice. My mom wanted this location. The staff are nice and caring to her needs. The community needs to keep up with the cleaning of the environment. The menu needs some small improvements with more healthy meals to help with special dietary needs. My mom does like the activities and the trips away from the community. This community does need more elevators or more elevators for the residents. We would recommend this

My love one is doing well with her move to this community. She seems to be happy, and she likes it. Everything is working out pretty well for her since her move to this community.

This whole ordeal has been overwhelming to not just my aunt but for me as well. I am so grateful that we found this community and they were able to have space for my aunt who had just lost everything due to a fire in her apartment building. The staff has been overwhelmingly nice and kind very accepting of us. The community is beautifully clean and well maintained.

The Atria West 86 Senior Residence is located at 333 West 86th Street, NYC. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! It is an overpriced and overcrowded dump. Don't be fooled by the pretty lobby. You will be charged $10000. to $15000. for a small apartment plus an additional one month fee when you move in. The building is an old converted hotel which is not adequate to handle the amount of senior residents living there. The three tiny elevators are too small for all the people living there. A 30 minute wait for the elevator is normal and my record is 50 minutes. I'm surprised the fire department hasn't closed this place down for safety reasons. The food served in the basement dining room is frozen and heated. No cooking is done on the premises. There are frequent pipe breaks and floods throughout the building and inside the resident's rooms. Also, there is a severe water bug and roach infestation. The staff members are rude to the residents and are annoyed when you request something. Most of the staff turns over constantly due to very low pay. The front desk lady is usually busy playing video games and people entering or exiting the building go unchallenged. I suggest that you search other assisted living facilities in Manhattan and avoid the Atria.

I was happy with the care that we received here. The staff was nice and caring. He was happy with the menu and the variety they offered. They have activities for the residents that want to participate. We would recommend that families tour this community for the nice care and good value for a loved one.

This is a great community, and my mother is doing very much better since her move here. She has a friend in the community, and they happen to have a room available on the same floor. Everything is working out very well, and I'am very pleased with all they have done for us. The staff is responsive, and very kind. This is a community I would recommend.

The staff was good at this community. The food was good as far as I could see. This place is terrific and I really enjoy working with the people here. This place is like a cruise ship with all the options that they provide. My loved one really likes it here. This place is better for people that still can do for themselves.

Offers most options for easy admissions w/assessment done @ rehab or hospital vs on-site at Atria. $1k off monthly rent through 2016 & rate lock make one-time non-refundable 1/2 month's rent requirement more palatable. FURNISHED w/more daily services than other facilities ("basically a hotel for elders providing daily room cleaning & fresh linens"); 3 restaurants on-site from which to choose for dining w/no set seating times. "Respite" option provides 30-day residency where one-time non-refundable 1/2 mo. rent amount is waived.

I think they do a good job at Atria West Side, however it didn't end up being a great match for my loved ones needs. It's a very clean, attractive, upbeat feeling facility, and the staff is helpful and responsive. Any questions or maintenance issues we'd bring up with them would get resolved immediately! They also have a great variety of services, activities, trips, and things of that nature. All that being said I think this facility is probably more suited for those without many serious care needs. Their med service wasn't as reliable as I had hoped, and they had some odd rules like wheelchairs not being allowed in the dining room that made things difficult for my loved one. It's a very nice place, but also very expensive.

A Place for Mom has scored Atria West 86 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
