American House is a pet friendly facility. One and two bedroom apartments offered, continental breakfast available every single morning and a chef prepared noon meal consistently wonderful! All utilities and services included in the monthly rent - Ithis is a wonderful place to live!

The staff was helpful. [name removed] did a great job talking with my mom when she was first getting used to the idea of moving out of her home. We are still in the adjustment phases but everyone we meet has been helpful and pleasant. The other residents have been great as well.

I had my mom at American House in Jenison in their memory care building(s) for over 4 years. Over the past year, corporate vice presidents have made decisions that are not safe or in the best interests of the residents, especially for those in memory care. The decisions have involved reducing staffing due to reduced number of residents in each building. Recently, a mandate was given that there was to be only 1 med tech and 1 aide per shift in each building (assisted and memory care). This is not safe when many residents in memory care require 2 person assists. At those times, there is no other staff member to monitor the other residents for potential falls, exit seeking behaviors and other issues that can accompany memory care like sun downing emotions. After this edict, a serious incident occurred. The locaI care givers were good and caring, but I moved my mom to another facility and can't recommend AH to anyone at this time.

The staff was very helpful and made our decision about moving in very easy. They were also super helpful during the entire move-in process. We are pleased. The only drawback was that there are only two meals a day with the large meal being lunch. But now that my mom has moved in, we find that even this is acceptable. She is very happy.

The tour of American House Jenison was nice. The only drawback was my loved one really didn't like that only two meals were server daily. So, we decided to go with another community.

The staff is very friendly and super helpful. The facility is very fine - it's one of the newer buildings they have at American House. It's very clean and neat. They vacuum and take care of the bathrooms regularly. I'm glad my wife is there under their care.

The staff has been great. They are very friendly and helpful. The only surprise to me was that when I thought of assisted living I thought they would assist my loved one more on things she is un-willing to do. Such as laundry, bathing, etc. Other than that misconception, things are going well and I would recommend American House Jenison to others.

The people are great, but the food is worse than institutional food. It is not chef prepared by any stretch of the imagination.

American House has been dealing with bed bugs for over 6 months now.All they do is spray.They wont fumigate the place because they don't want to spend the money.Meanwhile residents are getting bitten by these bugs.Do.not move your relatives into American House.I think a call to Ottawa County health department is in order

The care used to be excellent but over the last 2 years the quality of service and care have dropped down to the basement. My mother had to clean her own room and bathroom because of lack of help (realize that our monthly pay didn't change). In addition little thought was given to special diet needs with many times pizza or hot dogs were being served. Always the fruit was out of a can and never fresh. Many times showers were skipped because of lack of staff (once again, not our problem). The final straw was them sending us to collections for a three period AFTER she left the facility for one MUCH better. Don't believe their verbal word as they ONLY go by contract word. Too bad it has come to a pure money making facility instead of real care.

This overall has been a difficult time for my loved one in the community. The community appears clean; however, there was an incident with bed bugs. They try their best, and the community is nice. Most of the staff is good about answering questions or addressing my concerns. My loved one is not happy with some of the staff not listening to them and my loved one doesn't feel the staff value their opinion. I'm trying to decipher if this is my loved one or the community that is the issue for my loved one. The food has been good for my loved one and they seems to be happy with what is served. Some of the activities are spread out into different buildings. There is a hair salon for my loved one to get their hair done.

This is a great place in all areas. For us one of the biggest things is that it is close to our house so we are able to get to our loved one more frequently. They do have a lot of activities for the residents to do things in the community. The staff are great, the person who is in charge of my loved ones cottage gave us her number to contact her at any time. They are great with keeping us informed and letting us know if anything is needed.

I would suggest that you gage the staff that is caring for your loved in the first 3-4 weeks. If there are changes you would like to see I would suggest you speak up and see about making these changes for your loved one.
