Addington Place of Des Moines

My mother has been at Addington Place for a little over 2 months. She really likes the food, and the staff is attentive to her needs. They have a lot of activities for the residents to do. They have a registered nurse there during the day on weekdays.

Mom's been in the memory care wing for a couple of months now. She is getting along very well. Seems like she's not getting out of her room as much as I thought they would. I don't know how mom responds to them though. She does like it there. She enjoys the food and doesn't want for anything.

The staff and residents have made it very easy for mom and our family to feel comfortable and have a real home experience for her. The cost is hundreds lower than her previous facility. We've all been very happy with Addington!

My aunt was at Addington Place of Des Moines and my mom resides at Addington Place of Des Moines. I can’t say enough positive comments about Addington Place of Des Moines. They really do a good job making sure the residence are well taken care of. I know it’s hard leaving your family member anywhere let alone at an assisted living facility, however, it’s assuring the professional staff are looking after our family member. I personally would like to Thank the director of Addington Place Des Moines and her staff. You folks do a fantastic job with the care of our loved ones. [name removed] and her staff hosted the celebration for my mom’s 100 yr old birthday. The celebration was enjoyed by all! In closing, I would highly recommend Addington Place of Des Moines. It’s comforting to me knowing my mom is well taken care of as your family member would be as well.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The meals were okay. The move in process was easy.

My parent received yet another letter about management change last month. They change more often than their employees. Which is ALOT. Some staff care a lot, others are over worked. Staff will yell when frustrated then not communicate with families when there is an injury. This place does a ton of "family" food activities to make it look good but it's hanging on by a thread they hire bodies not people or anyone certified.

Addington Place of Des Moines is understaffed. They need to find quality people for the positions that are open at the facility.

We really appreciate the friendliness of the staff members and how they always introduce themselves and they are always willing to answer every questions we have.

I would say that right now is not a good time to put your loved one in a home. everyone is so short staffed that it is not going well.

It's a good location. The residents seem to get whatever freedom they want or need. The facility offers a good amount of activities. Sometimes the staff can be al little big difficult. But other than that, it seems to be a good place.

I would tell others not to put your loved one here. There was an incident when my loved one was taken to the hospital to see if they had a fractured foot. The community didn't call me, it ended up being the hospital that ended up calling me. There was a leaking toilet, nothing saying it was wet or a way to clean it up on the floor. The community didn't tell us why my loved one wasn't using the bathroom and ended up getting their own shoes dirty. The community takes the residents to doctor appointments. The eye appointment was canceled a few times due to the community not taking my loved one to the doctor. They lack in skills in trying to motivate my loved one to go to the doctor. None of the staff seemed to know how to handle these situations. There was someone new who took all of our complaints. There have been personal belongings that have gone missing several times.

We chose Prairie Hills of Des Moines because they had 2 bedroom apartments available in memory care with a bigger space and a nice outdoor area. It was more like a country setting which we liked. They do not always have the activities that are listed on the calendar which has been a little bit of an issue. Overall I would recommend to others who are looking.

My scores are based off of what we saw in the facility before COVID. We chose Prairie Hills because of the location, the layout of the facility, as well as the staff members. The room sizes here are on the smaller side compared to some others we saw. My in-laws have said the food has been an issue, they keep having turnover in chefs, so the food isn't consistent. Turnover does seem to be an issue at the facility, but it might be due to COVID. Overall, I would not recommend at the moment.

It is a very very nice place. The people are very friendly. There are a lot of opportunities for activities. You need to speak up if you feel your loved one needs more help engaging with activities. The food was good. The layout of the community is good. I was very pleased with the room my mom had, it was very spacious.

Beautiful property, friendly staff, and nice amenities. A little too far outside of town for us, most likely.

My Aunt lived here for years and was extremely happy that she was able to stay through her final days. The staff were all so loving to her through all of her life changes. I’m so thankful she found a place she felt like was her final home. I would recommend this building for anyone looking for a place for their loved one.

Beautiful well kept place! Extremely friendly staff. Plenty of activities to choose from. Very much enjoyed our visit with staff and residents.

Mom really likes this community and would like to live here. Although she feels it is out of here price range. This is her #1 choice for Assisted Living. There is no Independent Living.

This was a nice tour for care.The staff was able to answer the questions that we had on the care that is offered. They have a good environment. We liked the menu and the list of activities. Families should consider a four for the care of a loved one
