Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, “aging in place”, or dementia care. Tennessee has a number of provisions related to this type of community. The Tennessee Department of Health, Board for Licensing Health Care communities regulates this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include part-time intermittent nursing care, assistance with activities of daily living, personal services such as protective care, and laundry services. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance with reading labels, observing the resident while taking medication, and residents may self-administer medication. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1115 managed care Long-Term Services and Supports CHOICES program. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day that meet acceptable and/or prescribed diet standards, must provide additional nourishment and/or snacks to residents with special dietary needs or upon request, No more than 14 hours must elapse between the evening and morning meals, and the food must be adapted to residents habits, preferences, and and physical abilities. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assistance with health services, physical assessment, recreational and social activities, and arrangements for visits by or to health care providers. Staff members obtain education in a number of areas. These areas include healthy lifestyles, food service, applicable state rules and regulations, and emergency procedures.
