An assisted living community is a residential living community which provides care, support, and assistance to self-sufficient individuals who do not require skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities commonly offer support with daily activities, care supervision, and aid with transit and appointments. In select instances, communities may offer continuing care, respite, or dementia care. Oregon maintains a number of provisions related to this type of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight governs this type of community. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as ADLs test, physical health exam, mental health evaluation, and risk indicator assessment. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid. Staff members obtain training in a number of areas. These include: the values of community-based care, abuse and reporting requirements, infection control, and emergency procedures. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include health services, transportation services, 24-hour emergency care service, and maximize physical functioning. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program.
