Brookdale Elizabeth City

My mother is currently a resident at Brookdale Elizabeth City. My biggest issue is with communication. Several things are prompting me to remove my mother from there in the next few weeks. I would recommend this facility to others if the resident didn't have any major health issues.

Hertford, North Carolina

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a facility that houses at least two individuals who are not related by blood or by marriage to the administrator. A nursing home facility offers its occupants 24-hour care administered by registered nurses. These nurses provide specialized care for those who cannot take care of themselves because of their aging.

This type of facility is a convenient and comfy living choice for persons 65 years and above, however nursing homes will admit individuals 55 and greater which is unusual for other senior care types. Many residents are single women with smaller social support groups, and almost fifty percent of nursing home residents are older than the age of 85. Nursing homes are required to provide dietary services, pharmaceutical services, a professionallly directed program of activities, and nursing and related services to residents. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to get information on services and fees, be treated with respect, to manage your money, and have protections against involuntary transfer or discharge. The most common mental condition experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can cloud their memory function, decision making capabilities, and and familiarity with their surroundings. Often times seniors may select to live in a nursing home over another type of facility due to a physical or mental condition that prevents them from easily accomplishing their standard of living.
