She was the first to live in her room. She had to be placed in a separate behavioral center for ten which helped her. They have a nurse on site 24/7 and they took her to the hospital when she suddenly became ill with RSV on December 31. The ratio of staff to residents is good. She seemed to like the food. They have Art, music, game activities appropriate for memory care. Sundaes for snacks sometimes. The value for cost is higher than some other places but we were pleased with the facility.

To make sure the parents do not have Dementia or Alzheimer's at all before going there. It's really a good place though but. Doesn't hurt if your parents are already on Medicaid/Medicare it would help.

I thought Avonlea was a nice facility. The lady who gave us the tour was extremely friendly and showed us everything. They just didn't have a locked wing, which we needed for our loved one.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home facility provides residence to two or more persons who have no familial ties to the administrator. This type of residence provides its occupants with 24-hour care administered by registered nurses. These caregivers provide health related services for people who are unable to care for their own needs due to mental or physical conditions, including age.

Nursing homes can be a helpful and easy care choice for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will commonly admit persons 55 and greater which is unusual for other senior care types.A significant amount of occupants are bachelors or widows with circles of support, and almost 50% of nursing home residents are older than the age of 85. The most common mental disease effecting nursing home residents is dementia, which can cloud their decision making capabilities, memory function, and and familiarity with their surroundings. Nursing homes are required to provide dietary services, room and bed maintenance services, medically-related social services, and a professionallly directed program of activities to residents. Many residents of nursing homes may have behavioral issues, which can consist of resisting assistance, a tendency to wander, or verbal outbursts. A significant number of nursing home residents are individuals who have a physical or mental disability, have incontinence issues, require assistance with daily tasks such as getting dressed, or experience difficulty seeing and hearing.
