We are very happy with The Rose of East Des Moines. They are clean and the staff is very friendly. We thought the medicaid thing would be easier to do, that has added a little extra expense. The nurses are fantastic, the care is great. The activities have a really great variety, Wii Bowling, card games all different things like that. There have been no complaints about the food. The paperwork processing had a lot of delay in the beginning, and we had to stay in a hotel for over a month. We liked the location, and the outside was really well kept and cheerful with a lot of garden space, and very appealing. The other places looked very dark, not very encouraging. This is the perfect median for anyone in that in between stage of independent and assisted living.
Mom's been in the memory care wing for a couple of months now. She is getting along very well. Seems like she's not getting out of her room as much as I thought they would. I don't know how mom responds to them though. She does like it there. She enjoys the food and doesn't want for anything.
I would highly recommend Homestead. I would be happy to live there if I ever become unable to care for myself. The kitchen around mealtime smelled wonderful. Lots of areas to gather and socialize. Wide hallways with sitting areas spaced out so you can rest if you have a long trek to the mess hall. Pleasant staff. Clean.
