Otsego Place in Storm Lake, IA
5.0 / 5.0

Both my Mother and now my Mother in law have been residents of Otsego Place. It has given my husband and I a great feeling of comfort knowing these two ladies had the best of care. The staff are like family, the food is excellent, and there are lots of activies for them to participate in. This is an independent living facility so they can come and go as they please. There are different levels of care so that if Mom has some issues you can taylor the care to her needs. Yes it costs more for each level of care, but good care is not cheap and we want the best for our parents.

Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen, IA
4.8 / 5.0

My dads time at Bavarian Meadows was absolutely phenomenal. It was so much more home-like and had a great atmosphere. If we had known years ago that they would have been affordable for dad, I would have tried to talk him into going here a lot sooner. In spite of everything, they were very good about communicating what their expectations were during covid through text messages, social media, etc. The room sizes here were very spacious, they were private rooms with private bathrooms. Every-time I talked to my dad, he said they had the best food there. They were chef prepared meals and always had 3-4 choices off the menu each day, he loved it. My dad was 1 of only 3 male residents when he was here, so the activities were more based towards the females. I would let others know that they are strictly a private pay facility. I would highly recommend to others families who are looking and already have.

The Gardens of Cherokee
5.0 / 5.0

As per my brother who is living at The Gardens of Cherokee, he is extremely happy there. As per my experience with The Gardens facility and personal I would rate them a 5 also. I would definitely recommend them to other families who are looking for a place for their loved ones.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home offers lodging to two or more persons who have no familial relation to the administrator. A nursing home community offers its occupants around-the-clock care by registered nurses. These nurses provide care for seniors who are unable to properly take care of their own needs because of mental or physical conditions.

This type of community is a convenient and easy care option for individuals 65 years or older, however nursing homes will routinely allow individuals 55 and greater which is uncommon for other senior care types. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to participate in activities, be treated with respect, form or participate in resident groups, and to manage your money. A large number of inhabitants tend to be bachelors or widows who have circles of support, and about fifty percent of nursing home residents are older than the age of 85. The most common mental condition experienced by nursing home residents is dementia, which can cloud their decision making abilities, memory function, and and their sense of familiarity. A large portion of nursing home residents are individuals who have incontinence issues, have mental or physical disabilities, require assistance with daily tasks such as getting dressed, or experience difficulty with hearing and sight. Many residents of nursing homes might have behavioral troubles, which can consist of verbal outbursts, resisting assistance, or a tendency to wander.
