My mother has been on the memory care side since June 2023 and I can't tell you how wonderful the staff and facility is. All the rooms are huge and unique to memory care, there are showers in the rooms. There are also kitchenettes with cabinets and a full-size fridge. I looked at five or six area memory care facilities and none of them had both options. The staff is incredibly caring and really and truly loves each of the residents.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is an establishment that houses two or more individuals who have no personal relation to the administrator. A nursing home community offers its occupants around-the-clock care by on-site nurses. These nurses offer healthcare services for seniors who cannot adequately care for themselves.

This type of community is a helpful and comfortable living choice for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will often allow access to persons 55 and older (a rarity in the world of senior care). Many inhabitants are bachelors or widows who have smaller social support groups, and almost fifty percent of nursing home residents are older than 85 years old. Types of amenities and services offered at nursing homes can include personal care (including dressing, bathing, and toilet assistance), room and board, patient and caregiver education, and monitoring of medication. The most common mental issue experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their and familiarity, memory recall, and decision making capabilities. Nursing homes are required to provide routine personal hygiene items, medically-related social services, a professionallly directed program of activities, and emergency dental services to residents. Often times individuals may decide life in a nursing home due to a physical or mental impairment that makes it difficult for them to accomplish their lifestyle goals.
