I chose this facility for my loved one because of the owner. The owner is a doctor and he takes time to sit down and talk with my mom to ask how she is doing. If anything is wrong, he looks into it himself. If there is anything wrong they contact me right away and then contact her hospice nurse. They are on top of it. The facility always smells great and they’re always cooking healthy food. There are a few things my Mother doesn’t like but the staff members will tailor the meals to her. When I first walked in here, it was clean, professional, and it just looked beautiful. The only negative thing I can say is they are shorthanded but the owners are working on getting top-notch caregivers. I would definitely recommend this community to other families.

It very seldom smells and it's clean. The housekeeper comes every Monday to clean, which is nice. They are very friendly and courteous and I am very pleased. If my mother doesn't show up to dinner, they will bring her a tray of dinner, which isn't expected. They do have a bus to go shopping every Friday, but I would recommend they have more daily activities. All in all, they have been very helpful and nice.

Twenty-nine Palms, California

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is an establishment that offers housing to at least two seniors who are not related by marriage or by blood to the administrator. A nursing home community offers its inhabitants 24-hour care by on-site nurses. These caregivers offer healthcare services for those who are unable to care for their needs due to the effects of aging.

This type of community is a convenient and comfortable living alternative for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will usually allow individuals 55 and greater which is unusual for other senior care types. Nursing homes are required to provide specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), emergency dental services, room and bed maintenance services, and routine personal hygiene items to residents. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include personal clothing, flowers and plants, and personal reading materials. The most common mental disease experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can cloud their memory recall, decision making capabilities, and and familiarity with their surroundings. Many occupants of nursing homes are humans with interpersonal social issues, which can encompass verbal antagonism, resisting aid, or an urge to wander. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to spend time with visitors, exercise your rights as a U.S. citizen, participate in activities, and be free from discrimination.
