When we came in, we were impressed by the appearance. It was welcoming and very appealing. The staff was very welcome benefit. They were at first, and still are very approachable and friendly. Our needs are met and, as I like to tell others, we are spoiled Rotten- What a blessing.

Brookdale Winona
4.4

The staff and the food at Brookdale are excellent. I think they could use a few more activities geared towards the male residents. I also think that the staff could be a little more encouraging. The community is clean and well taken care of. This community is very expensive, however they are very good.

Independent Living

Many seniors may be physically and mentally capable of living without assistance, but the financial burden of home ownership and the maintenance of the property might be a deterrent to enjoying an otherwise independent life. Independent Living Communities offer a good alternative. Basic needs such as meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and social activities is provided, allowing residents an opportunity to use their time as they see fit, free from daily responsibilities. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to be among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and interests. Within the individual units, residents have access to a private living space and a full kitchen, and can even live with a partner if they prefer. While policies vary between communities, numerous residences allow pets as well. If medical or nursing care is desired, residents may always enlist the services of independent caregivers. There are a variety of advantages and expenditures to keep in mind when selecting an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are included in the plan: move-in fee, meals, initial assessment fee, internet access, transportation, cable TV, wellness program, and housekeeping. The luxuries associated with independent living include community activities, fitness center & swimming pool, security guards, beauty salon & barber shop, laundry service, restaurant-style dining hall, concierge services, and healthcare center.
