The people are nice and my mom is happy there. She does get tired of the food due to same menu items all the time with one different entrée a day. Not enough fresh fruit. They could do better on outings. On the drives they don't stop for bathroom breaks. Super important for older folks! They could do more outings during the day. The apartments need air-conditioning... They screwed up my Dad's medications several times and could have been a very dangerous situation. The woman in charge of meds, is very rude and defensive. Her staff would bad mouth her to me which was very inappropriate.

My mom is currently a resident at Washington Oakes and everything has been great for her at this facility so far. She has only been here for a couple of months, but it has been a very positive experience. The staff have been friendly and helpful. The cleanliness is great. The care services, meals and value for cost have also been great. I would recommend Washington Oakes to family and friends.

Response from Washington Oakes
October 9, 2023Thank you for letting us know how well your loved one is settling into life at Washington Oakes! We know choosing a senior living community is a big decision and we are so glad you chose us. We love to hear how well our amazing staff and dining are doing. Please reach out if there is anything we can do to serve your family better.
This facility and staff stands head and shoulders above all other locations in the area. Most of the staff is 5+ years at the location. Food allergies are incredibly well handled and the food is of incredible quality. Every staff member is cheerful and my parents are delighted with all of the activities, both staff run and resident organized. The staff have continued to wow with their support of resident driven changes and organization of interest based events. Wine tastings and dozens of game options, a wood shop and more constantly keep my parents involved and have greatly improved their health both mental and physical. Washington Oakes has been amazing!

Mom moved from the Oregon coast into Washington Oakes in 2016 and quickly found she was “home”. Washington Oakes is a warm, caring, family home with all the amenities Mom so loved: exercise room with “her” stationary bike, daily exercise classes, Tai Chi, library, game room, many planned activities, and wonderful food (thanks Chef). The best part is the long-tenured director and staff committed to making this wonderful community a safe and welcoming home.

The best compliment that I can give them is that when the FIRST case of COVID-19 in America showed up at the Hospital 3 blocks away, the Washington Oakes staff was up to the challenge. While other facilities were struggling, this one was keeping its residents safe. Thank you! It's not the most affordable, but you pay for what you get and the staff is amazing. I wish I was old enough to move in! My mother loved it there, especially as it was her old elementary school. She lived in her 5th grade classroom! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their loved one.

The community is very clean and the staff is very kind and welcoming to my loved ones. There were even people that knew my loved one when she was younger she reconnected with at this community.I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

Presently there are no dysphagia solids options for dietary restrictions. Unless [name removed] has been upgraded from mechanical soft, it's not an option. The on-staff nurse also needs to get back to determine whether or not they can provide supervision during meals for verbal cueing.

Place was buzzing with activity, updated, all facilities were clean and organized for next group to utilize. We toured 2 bed/1 bath - very spacious, clean and well thought out (lots of closet space). We liked the storage option for each floor, laundry facilities were clean and dining room was full with laughter while eating a delicious meal. Residents were eager to share their stories of Washington Oakes and 1 resident even took us for a tour of her apartment - beautifully decorated and maintained. This is our choice for our parents. [name removed] (our contact) was wonderful - laughed/joked with the residents, answered all of our questions honestly. All in all a great experience.

Mom loves living here. The food is wonderful to taste very good. The staff is so friendly and engaging with the residents. We couldn't have asked for a better location it's close to all her doctors and the hospital that she would use. The community is so clean and well maintained. Mom is being well taken care of here.

We did not see much of the people who lived there but it was in the middle of the day. We did see some people playing cards in the game room. It was very nice and clean. Lots of things for the people who lived there to do. Great that there is lots of choices with the meals. One of my favorites.

My tour of Washington Oakes Retirement Community went well. The facility was clean and the tour guide was very informative. It was a nice place, just not what I was looking for.

This community offers many and varied activities. It is maintained well and is very clean with no odors. The lunch we had was well prepared and fresh. On a personal level, we both found the paint in the halls of the older section to be very dark. Brighter would have been better but we can live with this.

March 9, 2017Thank you for taking the time to come visit us and for taking the time to write a review. We are very pleased that you seem quite satisfied with the cleanliness, activities and cuisine we provide to our residents here at Washington Oakes. We hope that you will choose Washington Oakes as the place to live for yourselves, or your loved ones. We will do everything possible to maintain the high levels of quality and service you experienced on your recent visit. We are replacing hallway carpet in 2 of our 3 buildings this year, and will likely replace the 3rd building carpet next year. Not always, but sometimes carpet replacement triggers new paint in the hallways. If that does indeed occur, I will request some brighter colors. Thank you again and we hope to see you again soon. Tad Kasuya, General Manager
Washington Oakes is a WOW! My mother and I were searching for a home for my Aunt and had toured MANY terrific locations. While all of the homes had great qualities, there was just nothing that made us feel like HOME until we walked into Washington Oakes! Robbie is AMAZING and within a few moments we knew that we had found the perfect home for my Aunt. My Aunt is OVERJOYED with her new home! The residents, the team of outstanding associates and the facility are all welcoming and have embraced not only my Aunt, but our entire family. It is a TREAT to visit and we all look forward to walking through the doors! I cannot recommend Washington Oakes enough-you truly must visit and you too will see that this is a community that shines above all others!

My wife and I took on the task of researching places in WA for my mother while she recovered from some medical issues in Tucson AZ. She was currently residing in AZ, but she knew the time had come for her move and live closer to family. And that she would need a place where she could live that could offer monitoring, and assistance, if needed. Although the ultimate decision of where she would now call "home" would be left to her, we decided to visit multiple places and help narrow down the choices of where we felt she would be most happy. Without naming all the places we visited, let me say, we did visit most...and here's what we found. All the places were fairly similar regarding room sizes, included meals, services, the way they handled transportation, and activities. There are some things that all places, such as these, are required to offer so, you won't find a lot of differences from one place to another. Monthly rent can be significantly different at each place. Also, BEWARE of the dreaded "Community Fee" that you will be required to pay at ALL of these places. Some were as high as $4000.00! Also, there's a difference in how each place may charge for any "assistance services" that may be needed. Food quality ranged from decent, to really good. They all seemed to offer a well balanced menu, and a good variety for their meals. We took the opportunity to try the meals at most places. At WA Oakes, I would say their meals were really good! WA Oakes was certainly competitive when it came down to the cost of rent. And we also found that they included some other benefits, like anytime transportation, without charge. There are some other small, but distinct differences that we liked also. Regarding the community fee... WA Oakes takes the lead in being a place that doesn't charge an excessive community fee. And part of that fee was offset by the down payment. So kudos to WA Oakes for keeping in mind that, with the sticker shock a lot of people will already feel moving into a new place like this, they don't compound that shock by charging an excessive amount for some made up, ridiculous fee. Needless to say, my mother has chosen to live at WA Oakes. Although the cost was an important factor initially, it was the "feel" she got from the place, and the people, that ultimately helped her to decide that this is the place she wanted to live. Here's a nice coincidence...although we never said anything to my mother, after my wife and I spent the time visiting all these places, we both had placed WA Oakes at the top of our list! So we felt good with her choice. My advice for people who are looking for a place such as WA Oakes....visit as many as possible, whether your looking for yourself or a family member. Obviously, everybody will see, or find something they prefer at one place over another, but I would highly recommend you take the time to visit WA Oakes when you are looking.

My mother just recently, this week, moved into Washington Oaks Retirement Community in Everett, WA. She has been met by friendly employees and residents right from the first day. The management has offered and given her help when needed and has made it easier for her to meet others and enjoy the activities. I heard about this retirement community from Katie at A Place for Mom. She was so wonderfully helpful to me when I was upset and confused about what to do for Mom who had just suffered two strokes. She was great in guiding but not pushing me. I bonded with her immediately, yet I have never been able to meet her, as she says her role is to guide behind the scenes. Well, great job, Katie, and to everyone at Washington Oaks. My mom has just been there five days and seems very pleased!

We just moved my mother in and it appears to be a great place. Nice unit, friendly staff, large variety of activities available and a reasonable price in comparison to other places we looked at. She is still adapting to the big change in her life, but we hope she will do well there.

A Place for Mom has scored Washington Oakes 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
