My mother passed away [date removed] after moving in but when she was there she really enjoyed it! Waltonwood is a great community for residents. The staff are friendly and take extra steps to make you feel special. They have wonderful meals and a dining experience. There are a lot of activities for everyone and I would absolutely recommend this community to other families.... Read more

I have lived in your community apartments for nine years . I have been extremely extremely disappointed in the type of services that I am offered . Three maintenance man for the entire building just do not do it. . In my first year the air conditioning was not working for almost entire summer, the next year I had a gas leak and they had to replace my whole bedroom wall all taking three months or four months. When it wasn’t happening there I had mice visiting me at my apartment. I also had quite a problem with spiders. The food is just so so ,once in a while they surprise you with a very good meal. The people are indeed very Friendly but have a little bit of a hard time with Honesty!! So please do yourself a favor and Beware and don’t be blown away by the beauty.

Do not trust this place for your loved one. This facility has a revolving door for employees from the aids to the management team. They can not keep good people. They hire unqualified, untrained people at low wages. Some work 16 hour shifts. They promote from within making unqualified aids med techs who should not be dispensing medications or giving any medical advice. My mother fell and they called to tell us per law. They said she was fine. We went right over and found a lump on her head and took her to the hospital only to discover she had a broken rib and in allot of pain. This place will go out of their way to tell you what they think you want to hear or make excuses only to protect their negligence in the care they should be receiving. Meetings with the management team help resolve ongoing issues for about 2 weeks and then it's back to business as usual. Unless you visit your loved one 3 or more times a week, you won't really know what goes on there. The philosophy is to find every way to increase fees or "levels of care" to improve their bottom line with increases every year. Then they do not follow through on the care or services that you are paying allot of money for. They're record keeping is terrible. Several times the care givers had incorrect care instructions after an increase in care was paid for. STAY AWAY!

I just wanted to let you and your staff know that I'm so pleased with the way everyone has been with my Mother [name removed her first week at Waltonwood. All of the staff have been so friendly and helpful. Yesterday was her 84th Birthday. Yesterday the staff came with balloons and a Birthday sign and sang to her it made her day. It's the little touches like this along with the welcoming basket and beautiful blanket that was there for her on her first day of moving into Waltonwood that make everything so special here. Thank you and your staff for a great experience. Looking forward to our continuing care at your community.

My mom was struggling with vascular dementia prior to moving into Waltonwood and was still able to do most activities independently. I explained that she needed to be prompted to do things on her own and needed to have someone walk with her periodically. This never happened. Waltonwood relies heavily on wheelchairs even if the person can still walk. Her functionality rapidly declined to where she could barely stand or walk and they refused to allow her to continue to live there. They sent her to a hospital and a nursing home only to have to go to a different assisted living that turned out to be amazing fortunately. All of this moving around took a huge toll on her. The caregivers were inexperienced. They could not even keep her room clean. She died less than one year after moving to Waltonwood. They oversold and under delivered. Management and the head nurse were non-responsive and rude when they did respond. All while charging us an arm and a leg. However, nothing compared to the cost of my mom's health and life. This place is terrible and a shameless display of what's wrong with "healthcare" in the US. Please never allow anyone you know to move in here.

Be aware that Waltonwoods does not allow the residents to choose what home care, health care they want. They will not allow Henry Ford Home Care or Beaumont in to their facility unless they get Accushield which of course is more money. It is not independent living if the residents cannot choose their health care. This seems to go against the Patient Bill of Rights. It makes me wonder if they receive a kickback for the money that Oakland Home Care provides. This is very upsetting, when you are already upset that your parents were in the hospital and need good continuity of care. I don't think they have the best interest of the patient in mind.

My grandmother lives at Waltonwood at Lakeside. She is 96 years old and the staff do a great job with her care . The show their compassion day after day with their patience and are very dependable. They all are very friendly and everyone that works there looks happy. They respond quickly to your needs and the activities department is fantastic. The managers show their love for seniors every day. There is always something great to eat. My grandmother loves the soup and desserts. You won't regret moving here.

I toured here when looking at different options. It was a lovely community, clean with a friendly staff. It was kept very clean, and seemed to be a little more upscale than another place I looked at, that was also nice.

PLEASE READ!! We have/had a loved one at Waltonwood and after we had the tour and wonderful "show" of how many wonderful things there were promised to be offered to our loved one(s), we were extremely excited to have them live at this facility...boy, were we wrong, to say the least! Sure, the place is beautiful and looks like a 5-star resort, but that is where it stops after your loved one(s) live in this place. The level of care is the furthest from 5-star!! I can't tell you how much we wished we would have never stepped foot into this facility had we have known the problems that we going to occur, even from day one. Well, after your loved one(s) move in, you are out the huge "buy-in/community" fee and you feel stuck, especially if you have to truly watch and budget your elderly loved-ones finances. We believed our loved one(s) would be in so much better care and would definitely be watched over....well, several hospitalizations after due to lack of supervision and oversight of eating, bathing, etc., we realize it is the biggest mistake ever made to have our loved ones live here. And..when major complaints, even life-threatening issues, are addressed to management, they can be extremely rude and demeaning or they fail to call you back and even address the issue. To be honest, I wouldn't even want my elderly dog to live there because I would be concerned of her well-being. I would honestly BEWARE of the many, many problems going on at this place...too many to mention!!!

I noticed much of the reviews are family members writing because they visited a family member there or placed a family member there. I am placing an actual review from my family member who asked me to do this for him. Here is a real bonafide tenate review: SENIOR CITIZENS BEWARE!!! If you or a loved one is going to move into a senior citizen complex soon and you are considering Waltonwood at Lakeside PLEASE read my review first. There are several things you need to know about. Waltonwood comes across picture perfect, and for the amount of money seniors must pay to live here - it better be perfect, but it is not. First, they do not have 24 hour first aid individuals on staff (at least this location does not). Second, their food is unsatisfactory more times than not it is cold and tasteless. Again, one would think for the amount of money we spend here we would (at the very least) have something delicious to eat. Third, before renting a unit here I specifically asked about the average cost for heat and electric I was told for both it would range about $100.00 a month. My costs are DOUBLE this. Fourth, look at the cold air return mine is blowing cold air back into the living room. I bought a floor thermometer to test this the floor temp holds around 57 degrees to 64 degrees even though my thermostat is set at 72 degrees. I have complained many times, which brings me to the management practices at Waltonwood. Keep in mind when leasing here (or most places for that matter) they are salesmen. The manager at Waltonwood has told me for the past several months they are "working on my temperature issue" but I have yet heard back and have yet had anyone physically take care of the problem. I have found once you sign the lease and they have your money they treat you like you don't matter and discontinue answering any of your questions. I have talked to other residents here at Waltonwood and they too have issues with the establishment, but they are afraid to speak up. I just don’t think that is fair, so I am taking matters into my own hands. These are just a few of my issues that I feel you should look into before spending Big Big Bucks and receiving SO LITTLE in return!

May 5, 2014Cheryl, I would appreciate a call at your convenience to discuss the issues your loved one is having. We certainly strive to live up to your expectations, and welcome the feedback. You can call me at [removed]. Thank-you, Linda Rose
Once again the staff was very informative and friendly, the place was beautiful, but I think it was too big and too many elevators to get where she needs to be.

My mother has been here for a few months, and I cant count the amount of times I have had problems. Mostly with the new executive director and the head nurse. Everyone has their stories mixed up about what is going on with my mom. They do not have their lies straight. My mom was sent to the hospital twice in once week for demonstrating agitated behavior. Total times sent to the hospital as of today is six. (within three months) She falls all the time, probably because of too much medicine that they love to give their residents, so that they are easier to deal with, and quiet. My mother has gone completely downhill since moving here. Although the place is beautiful when you walking, that's all it is. The caregivers themselves are ok. A lot of standing around the nurses station, not much interaction with the residents, and definitely short on caregivers. I am very disappointed and wish I would of never moved her here.

It was comparable in price or maybe even slightly higher than Sunrise, but when my wife and her sister went to look at it they liked it, they said it would have been fine too.

Fabulous interior -very upscale. But like Atria, it's adjacent to the mall and high traffic areas. There are separate units for independent and assisted living - not sure I was comfortable with that. Director was delightful!
