It is a very nice facility. The workers are always interacting with the residents. I like the employees, staff, very much. I appreciate going in and seeing that they are always busy. They are not sitting around playing on their phones. And they always speak kindly to the residents. I also like the fact that there is a licensed nurse in the facility 24 hours. Not on call. My frustrations have been more with the transfer of patient from hospital to facility. Medications got dropped during transfer. Do not know what the problem was but the PA that rounds at the facility worked with me in correcting the problem. And some of my frustration is with learning the nursing laws in the state of Michigan. But the staff has been wonderful, very helpful and my mother in law is receiving good care. But I do find the cost to be VERY expensive.

The facility has several women who kept the place clean, but the smell of urine in the carpeting in the corridors never goes away. At first EVERY staff member was saying hello. Then the exec director avoided any overtures for conversation. [name removed] was left to arrange his own transportation to dr appointments when this was a promised service. [name removed] was abandoned outside the dr office after 5 pm on a Friday and it was only thanks to a police patrol who brought him back to UL. No one at UL recognized that he wasn't back in time for dinner. He had lots of clothes, but when taken to hospital the last time, he was wearing hand-me-down sweatshirt and track shorts . Why? Where were HIS clothes? We had high hopes for the food because at initial interview we were introduced to the two chefs . [name removed] was not impressed. [name removed] was the bright light there . Not only did she provide activities, she helped get attention to [name removed] when he needed it. [name removed] is terrific. I would never recommend UL to anyone. Promised the care but unable to deliver .

August 6, 2024We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention as we strive to create exceptional senior living for our residents. What you have described is not representative of that goal. We encourage you to reach out directly so we can discuss further and address any and all areas of concern.
The room is generally clean; my husband not changed often enough; not sure how often he was bathed. The elevator was seldom clean (not swept). I didn't feel that he was watched carefully enough, especially at night when he would try to get out of bed. I'm sure he had some falls that I wasn't informed of. There were some arts/crafts, and music, as I recall. I believe the place was short staffed, and turnover seemed high. As I understand it, staff members were hired thru some outside source and they didn't seem to be really invested in their roles / seemed to do just what was minimally needed. Perhaps their pay wasn't enough? I would have liked more activities and more encouragement to participate; some staff seemed to not understand that residents need encouragement and engagement. Because my husband didn't talk much it was hard to know exactly how well he was cared for - I must say he didn't complain but that's because he just wasn't much of a talker. He didn't seem afraid or unhappy.

Based on what I currently know, I believe most homes in the area are receiving the same amount of retention and appreciation of well trained aides. Partly due to local and corporate management. The food is marginally better than my previous facility. They are going through some staffing issues, at all levels. They also no longer have a way to accept credit card payments.

January 31, 2024Thank you for leaving us a review; your feedback is appreciated and means a lot to us!
I kept a stiffer there so I could clean the floors sometimes. Everyone was always friendly. For the most part he seemed to get good care. He usually wanted to eat in his room. Couple times they forgot to bring him food. Meals were ok. Not great. He was in a wheelchair plus couldn't hear so mostly stayed in his room. They took him to a few activities. Hospice visited with dogs. He loved the music lady who sang with him. Wasn't impressed with the spiritual person. Disappointed that the facility didn't have church services. Think that was a fallout from Covid. It was lots cheaper then when my mom was in memory care at [name removed]. Also helped that I got a discount for being a Univ of Mich retiree.

I encourage them to go look at it, as it may be a good fit for their parent. My mom's preference was for excellent food and she's not getting that. Activities...my mom participate in many and staff reminds and invited her on occasion.

I think folks that are more highly functioning do better since they have trouble staffing. They allow animals which is fantastic. Since staff are always coming and going, they have training and process issues.

We love it there, I checked everywhere in Ann Arbor area and this is the best I found. All the staff and residents are so friendly and I love that it is pet friendly! My dad loves animals so even though he doesn't have his own there, it is nice to see others. Would be nice if they had more sugar free options and diabetic meals It's also a super location, but based on our experience we would absolutely recommend them to other families.

April 9, 2023Thank you for your positive feedback, it is appreciated! It is wonderful to have pets to visit with if one chooses to do so. We have many animal lovers at our facility! Our chef is happy to work with residents to accommodate their dietary needs. If we can provide you with any additional information, please reach out to us!
We picked this community because, the sales person and administrator had a very appropriate concept about the residents. The concept and intentions is really good, but they did not deliver, the level care that I anticipated. There is a lot of content and happy people there, but it was not the right fit for my loved one.

March 1, 2023Hello - thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your loved one's experience in our community. We will always work with our residents and families to help create the best possible experience for our seniors. Don't hesitate to let us know if there is greater support that we can provide you or your loved one.
They can improve the staff shortage situation, educate staff on importance of patient cleanliness, importance of caring interactions with patients, sharing info as needed with family members, and most importantly CARING about the patient. Be open to suggestions/concerns of family. Some staff members were wonderful and caring,it's just not enough of them.

February 2, 2023Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your experience. Please know that your comments have been shared with our community leadership. Our team really does care for our residents deeply and we strive to go above and beyond in all aspects of our care.
I was very impressed with University Living in Ann Arbor. Very nice place and people, but it was only a tour so much harder to say what the real deal would be. My father had more unique behavioral issues. For assisted living or more typical memory care it appeared to be a wonderful value, great location near best hospital in the state, beautiful modern surroundings.

August 13, 2023Hello, thanks for taking the time to leave us positive feedback! Have a great day!
Our family had an awful experience with University Senior Living, our loved one just got terrible care while they were there. They would push the button for assistance and nobody would come. He got covid and it took the medical staff 3 days to finally look at him and notify us - we just felt he was unattended to. The executive director honestly did not care, the person below her [name removed] was very sweet and would try to get things done but it was just impossible. The meals and dining service was terrible and it just did not meet expectation's.

We toured with University Senior Living and it was just totally not for us. The staff were very kind and did their best - but the room sizes here were SO small. They were like college dorm rooms. It was just not where I wanted my loved one to be, he would feel too contained.

We would like to have a better understanding about your experience. Please reach out to us at (734) 228-1926 at your earliest convenience, and we will do our best to resolve this with you.
We had a recommendation which is the main reason we decided to move to University Senior Living. It was very difficult to find out the cost and the pricing. On the positive side though everyone was very friendly, accommodating, and very compassionate. I would recommend University to others looking.

The first week our loved one was there they were a little down and sad but within about a week they adjusted quite nicely and became super happy. Our loved one just loves the care givers. The staff members there are super friendly. It is a smaller place but not to small and they offer a good variety of things. We like how they have different levels of care packages. Based on the experience so far with University Senior Living we would recommend them to other families.

Overall it is a pretty good community, but there are some areas of improvements, for example the can have more activities and more access to our loved one at night. They are understaffed but the staff that are there doing their absolute best, we know times are tough right now. The meal services and the cafeteria are set up and well done compared to other places.

I would tell others that the community isn't forthcoming with their charges. They charged more than we anticipated. The communication is sporadic. There are times I will leave voicemails and emails with no return call or email for a couple of days. There have been some staff that have left. They will automatically renew the lease unless notice is given. They won't give a price to us until after you have renewed the lease. It is a nice place, but they could use a little work.

I do have some reservations in regards to response time to request. The staff were not trained as well as it was portrayed that it would be for taking care of a dementia patient. The literature stated special training and there was no obvious showing for everyone that they were specially trained. There were a few people who were outstanding but majority were average. My loved one ended up on hospice and the coordination between hospice and the facility were very limited. There were a lot of restrictions for hospice. I would not recommend this facility when it comes to a hospice need.

A Place for Mom has scored University Senior Living 7.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
